This is a charming B&B and Dane is an extremely charming and helpful host. The house is very central in Oakham and does make an excellent base for exploring the area. After all the glowing reports, I hate to add any negative comments, but there were a few small concerns leading us to wonder if the quality is slipping a... More

This is everything a B+B should be. Bed was on the soft side but perfectly comfortable. Room has everything you need including a fridge in the hallway with fresh milk and space for something of your own. Bathroom clean, functional and hot powerful shower. Plenty of space for a night or two. Breakfast served in the conservatory overlooking a beautiful... More

What a delight to stay at this wonderful B & B, Dane is a charming host and serves a good breakfast in the conservatory overlooking the garden. We stayed in the double room which was very nicely decorated and enjoyed sitting in full sun on the private patio, the garden is so pretty we could have sat there all day.... More

Warm welcome from Dane, good sized room with comfy beds, scrupulously clean, delightful breakfast room/conservatory overlooking cottage garden, yummy breakfast made the perfect base for a wedding weekend in Oakham! I'm always a little sceptical of trip advisor reviews that do not mention negatives but in this case, it's really difficult!

This B& B is perfectly placed to explore the lovely town of Oakham and Rutland water . It is also a lovely place to stay . Our twin bedded room had French doors to our own private piece of paved area , and the shower room is spacious and has a double shower . The breakfast is wonderful, in range... More

This is an ideal place to stay in the charming town of Oakham.. The cottage is situated in a quiet street, but only five minutes walk from the town centre, and with private parking. The double room in which we stayed was extremely comfortable, and it was lovely to have our private patio area in the garden. Breakfast with home... More

For my purposes, it could not have been better! Friendly and helpful host, clean and attractive room, convenient location to town and rail connections, overlooking the garden, even a small fridge for B/B use... Would go again and invite friends...

After staying overnight in this accommodation we left feeling a little disappointed . On arrival we were expected to struggle with our luggage on a very narrow pebble path between a vehicle and over hanging plants, The room was very clean and comfortable although rather small. We did not appreciate being served breakfast surrounded by baskets of newly laundered clothing.... More

Had a lovely night's stay following a wedding. Was great to be eating the host's homemade fruit compote as part of breakfast done with fruit from his beautiful garden. The room and ensuite was lovely with a huge shower. Very satisfied with my stay.

We stayed for a couple of nights so we could explore the delights of Rutland Water. Dane made us feel so welcome and gave us a lot of time and information about all the attractions and best areas to walk. Breadfast was scrummy. Room had its own patio with table and chairs but unfortunately weather was not great. Would definitely... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
17 Northgate is a 300 year old thatched farmhouse situated right in the centre of Oakham, near the church. The two en-suite B&B rooms were added to the property when we renovated the whole house 6 years ago. One of the rooms, the red one,is a twin bedded room and the other, the green room,is a king sized double. Each room has its own patio with a table and chairs with views into the traditional English cottage garden. The two rooms have their own entrance from the gravel drive to the right of the house where off-road parking is available. A fridge for guests' use is situated in the small hall between the front door and the rooms. Breakfast is served in our "garden room" surrounded by plants. For breakfast guests can choose a full English or a lighter model including homemade jams, etc. ... more   less
