Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

The hotel is in a wonderful location on the green with estuary views. An easy walk into town with lovely shops restaurants and cafes. Nice walks on the waterfront from the door. We had a lovely room on the front with a balcony. Modern clean furnishings, kettle and coffee maker. Good to have comfortable chairs and coffee table by the glass doors to take in the view. A deep step onto the balcony, no furniture but on this occasion a little cold to use it! Make sure you take a face cloth, bath foam, shower cap, moisturiser as these no longer provided. A fixed bottle of shower wash and shampoo high on the wall but not easy to use when in the bath! The hotel has charm and we enjoyed our stay. Service was inconsistent at times and we understand were somewhat short staffed so we didn't feel the personal caring service as on previous visits.

Had afternoon tea with a large group to celebrate my 50th birthday. The afternoon tea was absolutely delicious!! The staff were wonderful & attentive. The hotel itself is beautiful, we were sat in an area of the restaurant which felt almost like a private room. We all had a fabulous time 😍

Well what can I say, we met my mother and extended family here for a belated birthday meal. The menu on offer really had something for everyone and the level of service was outstanding! All the staff made the whole family feel so welcome and cared for throughout our evening. Adam behind the bar was an absolute pleasure with his knowledge on gin and his level of attentiveness. Ola in the restaurant was also top notch with a glorious smile throughout service. It was our first time visiting this great hotel, but we will be back again for sure. Thank you all for an amazing evening!

Arrived for my granddaughters birthday lunch. Been coming her for over 20 yrs but sadly it’s not how it once was. Last year I brought my granddaughter for her birthday and she got a complimentary birthday drink plus a little cake & candle this year NOTHING! No acknowledgement what so ever!!! Been with friends on birthdays and also got acknowledged! I was disappointed for my granddaughter! What’s going on? I even dropped a balloon off prior to our visit, good job I did. Will rethink for next birthday!!

Been to this hotel for years past by , a refurb was needed and this has been done in the hotel facilities on the first floor to a high standard, I congratulate the hotel for the new look. It’s a shame though that the service, management and hospitality experience of the hotel has gone backwards and doesn’t exceed the standards nor requirements this place use to have or you expect for the cost . The welcoming and staff interaction is very basic, not very warm and lacks some kind of vision what they want the customer ti experience . Food was good as per norm , just now needs to focus on its service and the tired bedrooms. Will be back just hope to see more passion and better service as this hotel use to be gem.

Visited this hotel and restaurant for a Sunday lunch. My wife and I had the three course set menu, and the food, service and presentation was delicious and excellent. Smoked salmon, traditional roast beef lunch, and white chocolate and peanut parfait, all enjoyed with a first class bottle of Italian wine. There was a live jazz band playing some traditional music to add to the ambience of the restaurant, we will certainly be booking again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends and locals.

We booked a two night stay here in June after being told there was a room available with disabled facilities suitable for a wheelchair user. The hotel is in a lovely setting and the common parts have been refurbished to a high standard but our trip was a disaster due to lack of adequate disabled access. The room sold as having "disabled access" is not fit for purpose. There is an en suite wet room but there are no grab rails around the toilet and only one small hand rail at the shower. We were assured that portable grab rails would be brought to the room and in the meantime were advised to use the disabled toilet by the exit to the car park. There was insufficient space to the side of the bed to allow for a wheelchair transfer so we had to reconfigure the room and pile up excess furniture in a corner to allow wheelchair access. We stayed one night and were obliged to use the disabled toilet by the car park which was in an increasingly poor state of cleanliness as the evening went on. The following morning it was not possible to safely have a shower, there were still no grab rails and none of the staff could provide us with an update. The receptionist told us the manager was "very mobile" that day and could not be found and told us to lodge any comments or complaints by email. We paid the bill and left.

Lovely hotel with a nice room, however when we went for breakfast my wife asked just for a omelette and asked if she could have a few beans added and she was told that they could not deviate from the main breakfast menu, this may seem a little petty on our side mentioning this but it was not what we expected from a up market hotel
