We were moving house and decided that to keep our sanity we would stay in a hotel whilst the move was taking place. We are Lymington residents and had little experience of Lymington hotels but Passford House has a good reputation and has a remarkably good 3 nights for the price of 2 offer.

I had asked for a quiet room and for blankets rather than duvets. The room initially offered was next to the drive but the room was swiftly changed when I asked and the new room was at the back of the hotel with a lovely view over the valley and the twin beds were made up with blankets. Extremely comfortable beds, nice tv - although not many channels, poor wifi but good mobile phone signal so we could use our hotspots for internet. Bed linen, towels, accessories all fine. Bathrobes supplied, A good trouser press.

Breakfasts were excellent. The first morning it was in the restaurant, the second morning we had to have breakfast in our room because of covid rules.

We ate in the restaurant on our second night and had an excellent meal, The menu is relatively simple but very well presented and cooked. Tasty food. Good selection of wine, beer and spirits in the bar.

Sadly our third night didn't happen because of covid 19 closure - shame. '

Password House is a classic country house hotel, We were too busy to try out the leisure facilities but to leave the chaos of the house move and relax by the log fire in the bar before dinner was just wonderful.

We are hardly likely to return to stay as we live just down the road but will be very tempted to eat in the hotel restaurant again,

Great stay. Especial thanks to Dan and Lizzie.

Such an exceptional welcome during such a difficult time. All staff extremely professional and wearing appropriate Ppe. Room is immaculately cleaned as all areas of the hotel. Such care has been taken to ensure safety of all staff and guests. The restaurant enabled staff and guests to still enjoy the ambience that is so unique to the Passford Hotel but still ensured safety at all times. All 3 courses were amazing. Full compliments to the chef and all staff were attentive and gave you that special personal touch. Hence why we return so many times year after year.

Excellent stay in this family feel run hotel, Perfect for chilling out or a quiet base, Room was clean, tidy and large with a good size en-suite, We had a room at the back of the hotel which had a lovely view of the rear landscaped gardens, We used the sauna and indoor pool regularly during our stay which we loved, This hotel is situated in the heart of the new forest with the closest town being Lymington which was a short drive or taxi ride to (£7 Approx) one way to Lymington.

The staff were very helpful and friendly and made us feel so welcome, Especially Dan & Sharon.

My partner also had a massage during our stay and said it was one of the best massages she had ever had and that Heather was a wonderful masseuse.

The hotel restaurant food was excellent especially the evening meal, Quality fine dining.

We are really looking forward to returning in the very near future.

Kindest Regards

Phil & Sally

The plus points are well documented by the numerous previous reviewers, we were lucky with enjoying good weather and the opportunity to enjoy the pool and gardens etc. As against that it is not a cheap option so the lack of modern plumbing and mattresses has to be noted. Similarly, and allowing for the current problems with staffing and the pandemic, basic housekeeping should not require guests to ask for soap and loo rolls. The breakfast is a buffet arrangement, time your arrival wrongly and the eggs are cold and the sausages still cooking. The owner boasts his extensive hotel experience, breakfast does not reflect this….. where were those kippers on the menu by the way, Brexit problems?
The restaurant is a formal affair with sound use of quality fare but let down by a rudimentary wine list, a country house without decent Sherry, claret hock and port? Cocktails are not served in the bar.
Many will love the faded charm , others will feel it a tad outdated and over priced

Booked this hotel at short notice for a long awaited short break in the new forest. On arrival and we were early we were greeted by a lady who said there was no way we could check in at the time we had arrived and basically sent us packing telling us to come back later. We arrived later and went to our room..it was a hot day and the room was baking..no air conditioning or fan and the windows were on a restrictor so only opened 2 inches. We went down to reception and complained and asked for a fan to be told that they had just given the last one out!The member of staff said he would open the widow more but literally on removing the restrictor it barely opened another inch. We complained again and they did find a fan for us eventually.
The following day we were out for most of the day and on our return at 5pm the room had not been touched. Again we notified reception who said rooms only being serviced every 3 days because of COVID..sorry dont understand..anyway i had to request clean towels and the used ones were just left in our room.
I do not understand why when you pay a lot of money for a room and have such poor service. I e mailed the hotel after but got no compensation only a message saying perhaps the hotel wasn’t for us!
The hotel looks tired and old fashioned inside and the grounds look like they need attention..i would not recommend this hotel for the prices it charges and you have to pay extra for breakfast as well.
On the plus side the bed was really comfortable but they need to address certain issues

Dear 93deb, Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel on trip advisor. I am sorry we were initially unable to provide you with a fan. It is incredible how the weather in this country is changing. We purchased an additional 30 fans this year and still we needed more! We are considering putting air conditioning in some of our superior and four poster rooms. The window restrictors are on all our first floor bedrooms in line with current health and safety ‘fall from height’ legislation. We can obviously open these if requested. Hotel rooms are being serviced every three days. As you can imagine there is a balance we have to achieve here with guests not wanting staff to enter their rooms during their stay. We found the happy medium was every three days unless the guest requests differently. I am sorry you felt the hotel and gardens looked tired and in need of redecorating. We pride ourselves on being a traditional country house hotel and unfortunately not the hotel you were looking for. Kind regards, Ian

My daughter and I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights to have some ‘girl time’. The staff were very welcoming on arrival and our room was very comfortable. We loved the touch of having a soft toy in our room! We had dinner in the restaurant on our first night and had breakfast both days. The food was very good. My only comment would be that the sign on the table said that baked beans were included in the choice for breakfast but these were not available. Not the end of the world but it would have been nice to have them available. The second morning I had cereal and was looking forward to a croissant which had run out. Fresh croissants were immediately cooked and brought to our table within 10 minutes which was much appreciated. My daughter used the indoor pool, which she said was very good - she had it to herself on the Monday afternoon. I would definitely stay here again. The location is excellent with lots of walks nearby and villages like Sway, Brockenhurst and Lymington only a few minutes away.

We stayed here for 2 nights at the start of October after we had to postpone our wedding. This is not the sort of hotel we would normally stay, as we prefer somewhere more modern. However, we ended up loving the traditional charm and cosy fires. The hotel is in a good location to reach the whole New Forest, plus there is ample parking on site. We had breakfast here both days, which was really delicious, even if a little expensive. We found the dinner delicious, but again this was quite pricey. The drinks prices were good, not expensive like other reviews say, however we came down from London so this depends on what you're used to!
The room was pleasant and the bed really comfortable. We had a few issues with hot water, but I guess that's part of being in an older hotel.
We used the indoor pool on the first day, it's quite chilly but nice to have the option to swim. We also had massages on the Sunday, which were amazing! The masseuse Heather was so lovely, such a gorgeous spirit, and an incredible masseuse. She also gave me a little gift after finding out we were meant to be at our wedding. We would definitely stay here again, and I've recommended it to family as well.

The room was lovely, nice size, it was obvious a rigorous cleaning operation had taken place, bedroom furniture lovely. Bathroom large , shower so so.

The breakfast system was a bit strange. We had 2 evening meals there which both were very good and reasonably priced. Have to say the 2 male waiters were doing a very good patient job at breakfast having to deal with some very difficult guests !

Loads of outside space, lovely gardens, with a gorgeous summer house. There are 2 croquet courts, pitch and putt and both indoor & outdoor pool..

We did feel due to Covid restrictions etc they were trying to operate with less staff than is needed now business is improving. The poor guy behind the bar definitely needs some help he was rushed off his feet and the gardens were in need of a bit of a tidy.

This is a proper Country House Hotel and very tranquil . I would strongly disagree with one reviewer who felt they were made to feel unclean. Not at all we felt very safe with their essential Covid regulations, which are Government issued and I would much rather have these restrictions than a phone call to say due to lack of following guidelines there was a problem and we have to quarantine.

I recently stayed at Passford for 3 nights. I had never stayed before, having not really known about it or found it (at least not easily) on Booking or other sites. As it happens I booked directly with the hotel.

This is one of those hotels where you arrive and just know that you are going to have a really wonderful stay, and so it turned out to be. The location is perfect; quiet, secluded, and utterly, beautifully peaceful. The wonders of the New Forest are a stone's throw away, and the charming towns of Lymington, Brockenhurst, Beaulieu, Lyndhurst, etc are all in very easy reach by bike or car. The hotel has some grounds which are all very well kept and nice to wander in.

The hotel is wonderfully decorated and upkept; the room we stayed in very pleasant and cosy, with an excellent bathroom. Overlooking a pretty courtyard, and again all in beautiful and quiet seclusion. The communal areas are really well laid out and invite you in to rest your feet and read the papers. Although we did not try the bar or restaurant they both looked great, and next time we will stop for dinner I'm sure.

The staff were lovely and very helpful.

The only minor fault is the leisure facilities. Like many hotels in this class, the leisure facilities tend to be a little overlooked and I dare say that the pool and gym could ideally do with a little bit of a revamp. I'm happy to bring my toolbox and fix the sauna door next time if you like, Passford Management! Anyway, a small quibble, because I did swim and I did enjoy lying by the pool after a long walk, so it was all fine really.

In summary, I think this is a true gem and would highly, highly recommend. I always hope that places like this will succeed; you spend a few days in such a charming, wonderful hotel and you feel well and truly refreshed.

We stayed there 2 nights before our trip to Isle of Wight. Ideal and we will come again.

This hotel has superb grounds, gardens and our room was very big, even more spacious than expected. We found it very quiet once the last evening customers have left the bar downstairs (10pm).

Breakfast: The filter coffee was superb, impeccably strong and they have oat milk which was a great surprise.
The lady at breakfast (who I think is the owner's wife), noticed straightaway there were some things missing to make my simple breakfast perfect, so the next day she made sure the few items were available for me. Not many hotels would do that for you, especially unprompted. (So thank you so much for getting me a whole fresh grapefruit, fresher juice & granary bread).

Spa/Pool: we did not have time to use it as we were there to hike only.

Dinner: superb classy evening restaurant where you will find refined classy food.

Bed: Although I have given the hotel review 5*, it is worth mentioning that our bed was an extremely squeaky metallic four-poster bed and each time we turned we woke the other one up.
This can be a huge problem if you are heavy, a light sleeper or want a lot of cuddles you will have to improvise in other parts of the bedroom believe me, luckily there is plenty of space for that.

This bed really has to go. (Room 147)

This hotel is super dog friendly. We stayed at Christmas 2018 with our two small dogs. There were several dogs staying. Dogs are not allowed in the restaurant or bar (where food is served), which is understandable; they are allowed in the lounge areas. Owners are asked not to allow pets onto the furniture, You are also asked not to leave the dog unattended in your room. There was a couple at Christmas who did leave their dogs which resulted in a lot of howling! They are best left in your car whilst you are eating etc. Enjoy your stay!.
