A very impressive old hotel 3 minutes drive from the Isle of Wight ferry.
We had an apartment room at the rear of the main building which was very clean, modern contemporary very well equipped - even with a kitchen sink and a full size undercounter refrigerator. The bed was very comfortable indeed.
We had dinner from the simple menu which was very good though we thought a 'tad' pricey. The hot breakfast incorporated in the room price could have been improved upon by quantity in light of the room prices. Covid has nothing to do with food quantity.
There were 2 downsides. One was that Wifi was totally impossible to log on to except when in the Breakfast Restaurant close by. The second was that the Covid 19 QR code was continually rejected which was a little disconcerting under the current conditions.
Other than those, a very enjoyable stop over.
Staff very warming especially in the restaurant

This place was a bit special. It has potential but is clearly failing from the leadership at the hotel. I did not receive any information about my check in time despite booking directly with the general manager. My deal was meant to include dinner but this is not true at all, you get £25 which will not cover the cost of dinner. We passed on dinner in the end but were able to use credit in the bar. The restaurant is a 2 star hygiene rating and I was not keen to be paying them prices for a kitchen that needs major improvements. The hotel dealt with these concerns but did not validate them, instead giving a bottle of prosecco which neither of us drunk. The pool was gritty at the bottom and the steam room was covered in hair. There was clearly a lack of cleaning at the spa and pool, which I'll allow the hotel to clarify how often it's cleaned. The swimming pool, including sauna, was cold or below room temperature which didn't scream luxury. Our room was clean but remarkably basic. The bed consisted of two beds shoved together so nothing special. Also the TV was very old - not even offering a tv guide, which was just shocking by comparison to the room rate and budget hotel competitors offerings. The room states it has blackout curtains but as you can see from the attached, it's not blackout at all (room 2a) and was very bright. We were also next to a baby and they woke us up loudly at 5am so it was unfortunately a really bad sleep with the baby waking up from that point, the light incoming and the lack of comfort in the bed. The breakfast was laughable, the person welcoming guests ignoring each and every person that came to breakfast - we began watching the people who came in and guessed how long they would wait. The staff were hilarious arguing between themselves and the atmosphere at breakfast was awkward. But it was good albeit a bit tiny breakfast. Staff forgot our drinks and we got less then a slice of breads worth of toast for 2 people. The hotel itself is gorgeous, and the end of the garden had stunning views. Despite all of this, the staff were brilliant and that is there saving grace. From the cleaners to the groundsman to the staff at the bar to the staff at breakfast. They may have their quirks and be pretty bad at their jobs at times but there is an importance of them to be welcoming to guests. senior management should sort out the cracks with staff relating to how they interact with each other around guests but to guests they are all very pleasant. And it saved it from being a 1 or 2 star review. The hotel itself is shambolic but I blame the chain and management leading the hotel and the chain. If you want an experience that has both the service and the nice hotel which runs well then look at handpicked hotels which are cheaper and far superior. Nonetheless it is what is was and wasn't all bad. Enjoy if you stay but be prepared for the Fawlty towers aspects. This is far from a top end hotel.

Dear Elliott, Thank you for this review. We obviously had several emails before your arrival and our website has all of our arrival details listed. I also sadly had no record of you asking about check in time as I would have obviously have let you know this. Just to clarify your point regarding our scores on the doors this was from a visit in Feb 2019 and the kitchen and team since then have changed dramatically. Sadly the oncest of COVID has delayed a re-inspection but we look forward to having this redressed and achieving and excellent result. Regarding the rest of your points I have raised these with my heads of department and will ensure they are addressed. The team are working hard to iron out the service challenges you noted. The leisure team complete hourly checks so I will check when these were completed and the leisure manager will take this this up with the individual regarding attention to detail. Thank you for your kind comments regarding the team and property I will ensure these are passed on. Kind regards, Mark Watts General Manager

I was really worried after recent reviews and it also was quite tricky getting through to staff before our arrival, but when we got there the staff were lovely without exception, all my prior requests were in place too. The grounds and views are beautiful, lovely place to just walk around. The rooms are slightly tired but ours was spotlessly clean and theyve taken covid regulations on board really well, our room had been cleaned and sealed and everything was disposable. Breakfast was well organised, at a fixed time and a reduced menu/no buffet for obvious reasons. The food was good, muffins a bit dry but lovely croissants and really friendly staff trying to stay on top of the new process and make sure everyone is apart despite people wanting to switch tables (I mean come on people). Quad rooms are ideal for families with 2 bunks tucked through an arch, meaning we could read or watch TV whilst they stayed asleep. We would return, given the price it felt good value and in a beautiful spot. We did the booking via paultons park and was less than 300 pounds for 4 park tickets for 2 days and b and b, we have stayed at new park manor (also great for families) but that is more than that without the theme park tickets, it's a pricey location so people expecting a perfect spa retreat probably have too high an expectation.

We have just been here using a "Blissful spa voucher for two" which included a treatment each
Firstly this was not a "blissful" location, they only had 2 sunbeds to lay on round the pool, we were left with two upright chairs which were not comfortable, the pool was full of families with children which isn't a very relaxing environment. I would say this hotel is more of a leisure centre than a spa.
Secondly, after we had been using the relaxation room (the only quiet place in the spa), we were called in to have our treatments, but not before being told we owed extra for a Sunday visit, why they decided to wait until this moment when we had already been in the spa 2 hours i do not know. We had to pay this before having our treatments and had to leave the spa and go back to the reception to pay this in our robes. Our treatments then felt so rushed because this had eaten into our facial/massage time.
If we had known that there was an extra cost we would definitely not have booked this hotel or this day.
We also had a late lunch in the dining area after we were done at the spa, service here was very slow even though there was hardly anyone else at the tables.

We have had an apartment here for a number of years. It is an attractive resort and the staff are really friendly. They have coped remarkably well during the pandemic and introduced additional cleaning regimes. We felt totally safe here.
Elmers Court is within walking distance of Lymington Pier where you can get a train to Lyminton Town and beyond. The IO ferry is at the station. So you can go places without having to drive.
The food service in the Sails bar is good quality if a little limited in choice and is rather expensive in our opinion.
Well worth thinking about.

A lovely house and gardens give the impression of luxury and luxury prices are charged but they are using Covid as an excuse to provide very few of the normally expected service.
The rooms are ill equipped and not cleaned during the visit. No glasses for water, no bottled water, no loo cleaner brush or fluids, half a single loo roll ( for 6 nights !). Just a few tea bags and milk sachets.
The main house is an empty shell. No public rooms are available. No lounge, bar or restaurant. There is a ‘sports bar’ in the grounds which serves a ‘holiday camp’ menu and food quality, straight from Brake Bros. They can only do fried eggs ! No boiled, poached or scrambled. No cereals, no toast and marmalade. Only croissant with butter in horrid plastic envelopes. A glass of orange costs £4 extra !
Guests need to precook all items on the breakfast and dinner menus.
There are inside and outside swimming pools which need to be precooked. The inside one is very popular and busy.
Staff are pleasant enough but can only explain what the rules are, not bend them.
I have recently stayed at a much cheaper hotel in Suffolk which was operating a near normal service and still maintained a very high standard. So Covid doesn’t need to cause a complete reduction in facilities which is what being offered here

Dear Easyrider999, Thank you for your review. I was disappointed to read you comments. We are a large Hotel company and continue to change our offering in line with restrictions. Every hotel has choices to make and we make ours with the safety and wellbeing of staff and guests as our top priority. This week sees us reopening of our Waterford restaurant as of Friday for evening meals and we are also making adjustments to our breakfast offering to expand choice. These changes all come from working with our risk advisors and we are working to get to a safe normality. The team here are always on hand to help where they can whether that's delivering more toilet rolls when needed (as they cant be left in rooms as in the old days) to more tea's and coffees as again this would be very wasteful as they have to be discarded if not used. I would always encourage any guest who finds restrictions limited to just ask and we will help. Yours sincerely, Mark Watts

With the uncertainty of additional Covid restrictions being imposed, we decided that a Christmas Getaway in the UK would provide some reassurance if plans had to change at the the minute and the the Macdonald Elmers Court & Resort provided the opportunity to relax and switch off for the holiday period.

The staff at the hotel were welcoming and very accommodating, really going the extra mile to make sure all guests were looked after. The bedroom was very clean and the bed was comfortable and the proved to be a great location to explore the New Forest and surrounding countryside.

As this was a Christmas Package I was impressed with the quality and flavours of the food:-

On arrival, we had the opportunity to explore the hotel and grounds, but only made it to the bar, before having an afternoon cream tea (and maybe the odd glass of wine).

Christmas Evening dinner was a 4 course meal and the opportunity to meet fellow guests in a relaxed, friendly environment, even though all parties were seated on their own tables, it was very easy to engage and new faces quickly became friends over the 3 days.

Christmas Dinner was a 4 course meal and the food was flavoursome and quite filling. If we had space, the hotel also provided an evening buffet before putting on a relaxed game of Bingo, which was well supported and kept us all entertained for the evening.

Boxing Day was another 4 course meal, along with live entertainment in the way of an after dinner singer.

All in all - this was the first UK Christmas Hotel break I have taken and I would highly recommended this hotel for the dedication and commitment of their staff who went out of their way to make everyones stay something special.

Mark Watts, the General Manager personally spoke to all the guests and it was evident that staff wanted to perform to the best of their abilities and provide an exceptional customer experience.

Thank you to Mark, Chelsea, Kerry and the whole Team who made our Christmas 2021 something special.

We recently stayed in a super deluxe king room, which was very tired looking, mould round the bathroom window, cupboard handles didn’t match and cushions had pulls all over them very disappointed. Then the restaurant staff where nice enough but the inappropriate chit chat and swearing in front of customers is not would you expect at a 4 star or staff being pulled up by senior staff members in front of customers which made us feel very uncomfortable. Breakfast service was slow and the fact that you had to pay extra for scrambled eggs and smoked salmon seemed ridiculous in a hotel of this supposed caliber. My last comment is if possible avoid booking a slot at the outdoor pool from 3pm as the pool becomes invaded by mums and kids after school. Would not recommend disappointed especially as booked as. Relaxing getaway.

The resort is situated in a great location on the edge of the New Forest. The nearest train station is only a 5 minute walk as is the Isle of Wight ferry. The town of Lymington is also only a 20 minute walk away. The area is delightful with many lovely places to visit.
Elmers Court is based around an Old Manor House which is well maintained and offers good facilities. There was a mix up with our apartment upon arrival which the staff quickly resolved and we were allocated an apartment on the first floor of the Manor House which had lovely views of the rear gardens.
The apartment was a little dated in places but that's to be expected when staying in a older building. The kitchen was well equipped and offered everything that we needed.
The indoor pool could do with being a little warmer but it was a good size with a sauna and steam room off to the side. There is also a well equipped gym which had modern equipment and was well maintained.
On the evening that we arrived we were too late to book a table in the restaurant so we decided to order from their takeaway menu. The food came in small takeaway boxes, the food quality was poor, the portions were small and the food was massively overpriced for what it was. This put us off eating in the restaurant so we spent our money elsewhere. Similarly, we only had one round of drinks at the bar due to the prices. We ordered a couple of drinks whilst we waited for the takeaway food. Again, these were massively overpriced which is s shame because we would have liked to have a drink or two in the bar whilst we were there. I don't mind paying a little over the odds but when the prices are extortionate I'd rather spend my money elsewhere. Fortunately there's a lovely little pub nearby called the Ferryman which is only a 5-10 minute walk.
Overall, I would recommend this resort. The location is lovely, the staff were warm and welcoming and the facilities were good. I would just avoid the bar and restaurant if I stayed there again.

Dear MarcoPolo66, Thank you for your review. I was glad to hear that overall you enjoyed your stay. I will raise your points with our head chef as we are just about to change our take away and room service offering. We benchmark our prices on hotels and venues across the UK so I am sorry you felt they were too high. As a company we continue to review all pricing on a regular basis. Extra charges for electricity and for WIFI seems like a blast from the past as does paying a premium for not ordering your breakfast the night before.

Generally facilities and the grounds are very good. Some good ales and some packs of cards and board games in the bar would make these spaces more homely.
Pool is excellent as is squash court and tennis court
