Stayed here for one night as it was close to the venue of a wedding we were attending.
Very spacious, clean and comfortable room, well equipped with everything we needed, tea, coffee, biscuits, water, toiletries etc
Our only slight criticism is that there was a very creaky wooden surround to the beds (it was a twin room - Yoko) but the beds themselves were very comfortable.
We would have chosen a double room, but for some reason they are much more expensive than the twins, not sure why though? Maybe it's a size thing, although the room we were in was huge!
Not a problem for us though, but I just wouldn't pay that much more for a one night stay on principle, just for the sake of having a double bed!
There was a great continental breakfast included in the room rate with the option to pay extra for a full English, which looked very nice, but we didn't have that as the continental was enough for us.
The staff at both check in and at breakfast were very friendly, polite and chatty. We didn't go into the bar at any time, so can't comment on that or the restaurant.
We would definitely book to stay here again if we needed to stay in the area.

We were staying nearby and wanted a meal about 8pm on Sunday night. Most places having served Sunday Lunch all afternoon do not offer a dinner on Sunday evening. The very friendly barmaid told us on Saturday that they served meals until 9.00pm every night. The menu was extensive an varied. and the food plentiful. One notable plus was that all a la carte meals were served with chips and veg or new potatoes and salad included in the menu price.

It was our 10th anniversary and I was looking for something special to celebrate it. I booked a luncheon on the Great Central Stream Train in Loughborough and then was looking for a special hotel for the evening near by. I was looking at 2 hotels in Quorn & this hotel. What made me choose this hotel was the closeness to the Barrow-upon Soar train station that would take us into Loughborough, so we could have a drink with our lunch. Quorn didn't have a train station. I am so glad I did choose this one, it was super special.

We were received by a very warm welcome and shown to our room, which was the Louis Room. Very beautiful, big room. In keeping with it's name and looked as good as in the pictures. Very clean and well kept. Nice big bathroom with a large bath with shower over. The coffee and hot chocolate were Douwe Egberts, which made a lovely change from Nescafe!!!

We then went down for a few drinks and something to eat. We hadn't booked at table but there soon found us a table. The staff were very pleasant but Gavin (the manager) was outstanding. He was super attentive to us and kept us well watered. The food was good and the sweets were out of this world. Even though it was very busy, we got our food pretty quick. Breakfast was Continental included or full English at an extra cost. We had continental, which was good, with plenty to eat.

I would highly recommended it. Beautiful stay in a beautiful building and room.

I booked a table for two as a special surprise, but what a dreadful experience. On arrival we were shown to our table asked what drinks we would like, after 20 minutes we had to ask where they were. We gave our order for our meal and had to ask three times when it would arrive we were told 'it is coming'. People were arriving and getting their food within 15 minutes, then being served desserts. After an hour and five minutes we were still waiting, so we went to the desk asked for the bill for drinks and said we were leaving, we were then told our food was ready, but we refused to stay. The surprise was totally spoilt and was so disappointing. I wouldn't give it any rating but it won't let you do that, it wasn't even worth the one! A very disappointing experience.

Visited here this afternoon with my girlfriend, her parents and my mum.
As a vegetarian I chose the nut roast, roast dinner. The menu stated it was served with roast potatoes, seasonal veg, Yorkshire puddings, gravy and the “usual trimmings” if you look at the photograph you’ll see what I was served.
Chips, nut roast, 2 pieces of broccoli, a couple of carrots and cabbage.
No roast potatoes, no Yorkshire puddings, no gravy. It was embarrassing. Dry cr*p! After waiting for 15, YES 15 MINUTES!! For a table spoon of gravy I sent the food back. Complete waste of time, money and effort. I take it it was the manager that came over to ask what the problem was and I asked who has chips on a Sunday roast and no gravy? and he said it was normal for a vegetarian to have dinner like that.
Ironically my girlfriend had the lamb and couldn’t eat it as the whole dinner had been drowned in gravy!
On the whole, this was terrible. Dry, sub standard and embarrassing and I won’t be returning. The dinner on the menu that was described was nothing near to the food that was put on the table.
I hope the establishment and management read this review and realise they need to make some serious changes or they will be left way behind.

My husband booked us a room for the night for my birthday.
The hotel is beautiful. The rooms are unique in design and decoration.
The food is absolutely amazing too as they were easily able to cater for my coeliac vegetarian diet.
Covid measures were inforce so we felt very safe too.
The staff were very friendly and I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wishing for a relaxed meal out or a relaxing night away.
Thank you hunting lodge!

Fantastic, from the moment I walked through the door everything was perfect.

Couldn’t have been welcomed warmer, the drinks were great, the menu was inviting and I had three courses, Camembert to start (massive!), a trio of meats and then a cheesecake for desert all wonderful, the main course was exceptional!

The lovely waitresses couldn’t have been anymore attentive and everyone appears to know what they are doing, hats off to chef and kitchen staff.

Little wait from starter to main but when the food is that good you can really excuse that…

Price is great, how it only works out at £3 a starter for the size of that Camembert is brilliant. Well done Hunting Lodge!

My sister and I surprised our Dad for a Father's Day evening meal here and I also stayed over, having traveled from quite a distance away. EVERYONE was super friendly and hospitable to both us and my dog,

The atmosphere was lovely. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the food was good.

My room (the dog-friendly one) was very comfortable and with everything I needed.

I'd definitely recommend The Hunting Lodge for drinks, dinner or to stay with your four-legged friend!

It felt very covid-safe with all staff wearing masks (and properly!) and hand santiser stations subtly dotted about.

As a group of mums we went to The Hunting Lodge for dinner last night. There were 12 of us and I didn't know what to expect- I've had quite a few group meals where they simply couldn't maintain the standard when catering for a larger group. So I chose wisely. I neednt have worried- the food was excellent (in fact one of the best roasts I've eaten in years). I looked at what others had chosen and could tell everything was made on site. The sticky toffee pudding looked incredible! The staff were attentive, yet left us to chat and we didn't feel pressurised to leave. They had a female vocalist, who was absolutely brilliant- she had us up dancing so the atmosphere was great. Would highly recommend and will definitely be going back.

I'm a local and I've been here one time before to eat years ago when it was under different managenent and i wasnt impressed.
Just happens we were coming back from the great central railway in loughborough on boxing day and we were driving through Barrow and hoped to grab a bite to eat somewhere. We rang ahead when we were literally 5 mins away and it was not a problem for a table for 3. This pub/hotel has new owners and i had been in for a drink a few weeks before and the staff are really friendly. The decor is lovely, i think maybe previous owners had it updated? Not sure. But the large dining room is really cosy now, modern with a twist of countryside and very clean.
As expected it was a set menu on boxing day. Roasts and a haddock dish.
Husband is vegetarian so he ordered the no meat roast. Dad had beef but he wasnt keen on majority of the sides on offer. So when we ordered i asked if he could have a few extras of the sides he did want. They didnt deliver that.
I had the rolled haddock. Mine was delicious and a really good portion even though i accidently spilled my sauce over me before i started. I was mopping it up when drinks were delivered to the table but she didnt notice what a mess i was in. I had to ask for more napkins from the desk. Burnt my hand so had to go to the loo to sort myself out! Yes i'm clumsy!! I did see one of the waitresses in the toilet and she did offer to get new sauce but i was ok.
Partners roast was literally a few roast potatoes, half a parsnip and half a carrot, he didnt even get a yorkshire. Considering it was £20 for the main this was shocking! There wasnt even a meat alternative added. My dad had very rare beef which he wasnt keen on, a couple of roast potatoes, half a carrot, half a parsnip and a yorkshire. Weird how he got one but not my husband. That was it! Dad wont be back for food.
The food IS really nice but the portion size for this boxing day main was not great.
We will visit again to see what the daily menu is like in the new year because its actually a really nice place and the staff are welcoming.
Maybe next year relook at your portion sizes? :D
