Detailed Reviews
We have been visiting The Hightae Inn for many years and we are always looked after brilliantly by landlady, and chef, Morag. This spotlessly clean, extremely cosy and comfortable former inn, is now run as a B&B with the added bonus of a superb 2-3 course dinner which is amazing value (particularly when you consider that top quality local produce is used, cooked in such a way to give your taste buds a treat they will not forget in a hurry!) We really cannot find fault with our visits, except to say that they are never long enough. Morag is a truly lovely welcoming hostess and she thinks of everything to ensure her guests enjoy their stay. Don't take my word for it, give it a go....you will not be disappointed.

This delightful little hotel offers the perfect welcome after a long drive from the North or South, only fifteen minutes from the M74 so very convenient indeed. The rooms are spotless and substantial, with the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. The food is home made, fresh and of the highest quality. There are some beautiful walks nearby, and this is a very unspoilt quiet corner of Scotland. Morag and Mark who run the hotel are terrific hosts and really know what they are doing. This is our 'go to' hotel when we head North, and we hope to able to return soon.

I stayed here as a solo traveller on my way to catch the ferry home. I was given a warm welcome by Morag, the food was freshly cooked as imaginative - I’m vegetarian and I really appreciated the efforts Morag went through to make a tasty meal for me.
The public spaces are warm and inviting and there was a lovely wood burning stove which I enjoyed relaxing in fron of whilst reading a book.
My room was spacious and relaxing and the bed comfortable. I love the decor!
Off road parking too.
I can’t fault this place

Having had a wonderful week in and around Scotland,we needed a hotel for our halfway point stay.
We luckily found Hightae Inn just outside of Lockerbie off the M74 and what a little hidden gem this place turned out to be ,set in a quiet little village. Our room was stunning, beautifully decorated and very comfortable.
We cannot speak highly enough of Morag, who was truely wonderful and very welcoming, she simply couldn't of done enough for us, I overlaid for my breakfast because the bed was so comfortable, but she wouldn't let me go without cooking me something.
Our evening meal was truly outstanding, so much detail and love went into all three courses, the best meal we have ever had by far.
And to top it all off, having searched mile after mile for a red squirrel around Scotland, and then having taking advice from Morag,we even managed to see the elusive squirrel in Eskgrigg nature reserve,5 mintues before checking into the Hotel.
We highly recomend Hightae Inn, Thank you so much Morag and Thomas.

The best B&B possible! Once again, Morag looked after us brilliantly. The accommodation is the most comfortable it could be, it is incredibly peaceful in a beautiful location, and the food cooked by Morag both for supper and breakfast is so very tasty. Thank you Morag, as we say every time: we'll be back! X

We really can’t recommend this lovely B&B enough. Morag is a wonderful host who made us feel instantly welcome. Before visiting, Morag emailed us to ask the foods we like to eat so she could prepare a menu. We had breakfast and 3 course evening meal both nights and can honestly say, the food was fantastic with intricate attention to detail. There was a roaring log fire in the seating area, which we shared with Morag’s adorable dog Tom. The bedroom and en-suite were immaculate with a very comfy bed. Highly recommended.

We booked this lovely place as a stop-over to break up our return journey from the Highlands.
Everything about our stay was utterly perfect and nothing was too ,much trouble for Morag....even catering for my fussy vegan husband! She had gone to the trouble of ensuring she had vegan milk alternatives for drinks and cooked us a beautiful meal for the evening. And my goodness; can Morag cook! From the evening meal to the breakfast, everything was stunningly presented and tasty. The bed was comfortable and the whole hotel was tastefully decorated. Morag has a real gift with people and seems to know intuitively exactly what you wanted or needed. A really special place.

We only stayed one night at High Tae Inn but were very impressed with everything. Morag is a wonderful host, a great cook both for dinner and breakfast and the whole place has such a relaxed and cosy vibe. Sitting in front of the wood burning stove enjoying my favourite gin, chatting to and having a laugh with Morag and relaxing (with the gorgeous wee dog Thomas quietly sitting nearby) was a great way to spend a winter’s evening. The room and ensuite were very well equipped with good quality bed and bedding. Very good value too. We would definitely recommend it all.

What a find! Our one night stopover en route south from Skye was an absolute delight. A quiet, comfortable room; great home cooking for dinner; and a wholesome breakfast to set us on our way. Hightae Inn is close enough to the motorway to be convenient but feels like a different world away from the noise and traffic. While most guests are probably just ‘passing through’ we felt the Inn and its surrounding area could easily merit a longer stay. Morag (ably assisted by her charming niece) was the perfect host. All those 5 star reviews are most definitely justified!

Room Tip: Our satnav took us a very obscure route from the A74(M) so best check on a ‘real’ map if possible.

Hi folks.
We’re a small seasonal restaurant with rooms open Thursdays-Sundays from March to November. Although we haven’t operated The Hightae Inn as a pub for quite a few years now, evening suppers are available to non-residents. Just give us a call to reserve a table.
Many thanks for your enquiry - as we're just a restaurant with rooms, we unfortunately cannot accommodate dogs.
Thanks for your enquiry Gill - we're just a small eatery open in the evening and serving food between 6pm and 8.30pm, and unfortunately can't accommodate dogs in the restaurant. Kind regards, M&M at The Hightae Inn.
