Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed in the wooden glamping yurt and although it was basic inside - just beds with no sheets etc, it was clean and pleasantly warm. The shower facilities were really clean and warm, and the site was well maintained. The one downside is the decking is very slippy outside once it rained so most adults and children slipped at one point!

I really liked this campsite, but the only bugbear was the beeping from the electric supply boxes when there was no lead plugged in and they hadn’t been pressed, it was driving me mad as I could hear several beeping from the campervan. However the pitches are level, you get some space and the toilets/showers are ample and clean. Nice touch on the vending machine for milk/cakes. I would recommend this campsite.

This site is very easy to access from the M74. It is most scenic and the touring pitches are all of a decent size. We had a memorable relaxing stay and will definitely return. The Coach house restaurant does excellent wood fired pizzas. The toilet blocks are dated as is the one shower block but are adequate. Unfortunately some of the other campers feel that it is acceptable to drive faster than the speed limit, and others see fit to let their dogs off the lead despite this being against site rules. Site staff appear to be unable to enforce these rules which is disappointing. Notwithstanding this, don’t miss this excellent site.

Stayed in a Kelo Lodge for three nights with two young children and we all loved every minute - the kids were sad to leave! Really well kept site with great facilities. Toilets cleaned regularly and showers got nice and hot - they were also a twist-on rather than a timed push button which helped a lot! Play room is great and the playground big enough to keep everyone entertained. The shop is well stocked and the staff are friendly and helpful. The castle makes for a great backdrop to your camping experience and the coach house bar makes a great pizza. Again the staff here were friendly and helpful. The site goes quiet at around half past ten and feels calm and secure. If you stay in a Kelo Lodge you get access to a cook house as well which has a few gas ovens but you need to take your own cookwear. The lodges are heated and have a few electric sockets too which is really good. Ours was cool during the day but warm enough at night in August. A really great stay and we will definitely be back!

Been a few times before and this is a great site so booked a week on 3 pitches with family. For 3 days, 08:15-15:00 or 16:00 we have been swarmed by noisy grass cutting machinery. Every blade of grass has been mowed, strimmed, blown, remowed to within an inch of its life. No piece at all. Will only use site for stop overs in future.

Response from George Birkbeck, Owner at Hoddom Castle Caravan Park
Responded 21 Aug 2023
Dear U3691TNmartinb We are sorry that you found the site to be too noisy with grass cutting operations but it is part of nature I am afraid. It is a noisy operation that is essential or we end up with complaints of grass too wet and long. We have to lift the grass as it ends up in everybody's tents and sleeping bags. With the current weather conditions we have had to hit it hard when conditions allow. As you will know if you have been a few times before, it it is not like this all the time. We just have to work with the weather. It is not easy but I am sorry that we have caused you this inconvenience but I hope you can see it from our side too.

Very picturesque site. Quite and peaceful. Booked for the location and that it had a pub in the grounds to get something to eat after a long day on the road only to find on arrival that the pub is shut on a Monday. Staff friendly and helpful. There is a small shop on site and the showers / toilets are clean.

I booked Friday, that night my partner was rushed into hospital, 3 months stay minimum, even under these exceptional circumstances Hoddam have refused to give our deposit back! Absolutely disgusted at the heartless, we booked less than 8 hours before, nothing !! Absolutely compassionless. My partner is seriously I’ll in hospital, I can t say anymore, disgusting, compassion less, surely this needs to be addressed.
