Travellers' Choice
Set in the heart of Cheshire, Mere Court Hotel was originally built as a wedding present for William and Amy Dunkerley in 1903 and has now been lovingly and skilfully restored as a 4-star deluxe country house hotel, award-winning wedding venue, conference centre and fine dining restaurant with one AA Rosette. Set in 7 acres of landscaped gardens and grounds with a private lake in the most desirable part of the Cheshire countryside it offers ambience and rural tranquillity, despite being only 10 minutes from Manchester Airport and within easy reach of the major motorway networks (M56/M6/M62) giving access to Manchester, Liverpool and the historic City of Chester. The original house has individually designed and furnished luxury bedrooms, including two four poster suites, all with wonderful views across the beautiful grounds. The Lakeside rooms all have king size beds. This hotel has played host to a number of notable and famous guests like former US President Bill Clinton, Ruby Wax, Dawn French, Alan Titchmarsh and Spandau Ballet.

Had a lovely time with hubby, evening meal and breakfast fabulous, tho £33 for a bottle of prosecco was a bit high priced. Our room was in need of a little TLC and the wiring of the the lights was a bit mad as we couldn't have the small lamps on without the big light coming on ?? and a bit of dusting on the surfaces was needed. But overall we enjoyed our time here, gardens beautiful, staff helpful.

This is a wonderful idyllic hotel with picturesque gardens and unusually large, very comfortable bedrooms. We stayed for two nights DB&B in a party of two couples. We were greeted by a friendly, efficient receptionist and that friendly, efficient service stayed with us throughout our stay. All our evening meals through three courses were beautifully cooked and presented and though the service was occasionally a little slow due to them also catering for a wedding at the same time. Drinks were reasonably priced for an establishment of this standard and it was thanks to this hotel that we thoroughly enjoyed our short Cheshire break and will definitely return in the future.

My partner booked a one night as a present for my birthday which due to Covid was transferred from 2020 to this September . On arrival we were greeted by a friendly receptionist explained arrangements for dinner and breakfast. Our room was the Windsor Suite a spacious room with a four poster and all the usual expected amenities overlooking the grounds. Dinner included and pre booked .... We were met in the bar by the head waiter taken to our table in one of three small intimate sections of the restaurant.Menu was three course with a good choice and food was excellent tasty and well presented plus a comprehensive wine list. After a comfortable night sleep breakfast was served in a different restaurant offering both continental and hot buffet breakfast. My only criticism was the bar staff were not very friendly otherwise its lovely hotel and convenient location for a short break.

The hotel is lovely and situated in a nice area. The staff however let this place down. With the exception of a couple they were scruffy, miserable, unwelcoming and disinterested. There was a wedding on when we arrived so I appreciate they were busy. This however is no excuse for the lack of respect for the other paying guests. There was no hello welcome to the Mere Court or even a good afternoon! Just a hi have you booked a room, paper work filled out, keys given and off we were sent. The room was OK but nothing special. After settling in we went down to the bar for a drink and sat down. As there was no one else there I asked a member of staff if they had sky sports to watch the footy. I was told yes but weve lost the remote! After 30 mins and 3 staff members trying to find the channel we were told we must not have sky so this is the best we can do!! I was was then left to watch some American soccer channel 🤦‍♂️ The evening meal however was lovely and couldn't really fault the gentleman waiting on us even tho we were left waiting some time between courses. This was due to him trying to look after a few customers on his own. After our meal we went in to the bar area for a drink. Here we found that many of the wedding party had congregated for drinks even tho they had the wedding hall, bar and outside area to go. This left me and my wife or other non-wedding guest to sit, stand or get to the bar. Without booking a taxi to go into town, £20 there £20 back. We we left with no option but to retire to our room. Now we come to breakfast!! Well what can I say 🤔 not alot really. It was crap. We were directed to a table. Asked if we wanted tea or coffee and that was that. No good morning. No explanation of what food was out or what other drinks where also available.. Maybe it was me expecting a little too much at £170 a room but I was expecting a breakfast menu and it cooked fresh. Not a help yourself B&B overcooked, warmed up below average English breakfast. Even now no member of staff came to see if everything was OK or if we needed anything. The 2 staff members working had absolutely no interest in any guest having breakfast and when we'd finished we just got a " you finished" as they took out plates. The only polite person that morning was the young lad vacuuming the corridor as we waited for someone to seat us. Such a shame as the seeing of the hotel is really nice. It takes nothing for staff to be smart, polite and friendly
