We stayed two nights in a really well designed and equipped room with views over rooftops to Kirkwall harbour. The en suite was excellent.. Breakfast choice was a delight. Everything was very clean. Hosts were friendly and very helpful

Very convenient walking distance to all Kirkwall attractions. Debbie is a charmingly friendly host, who delivers an immaculately clean, very comfortable stay. How nice to find a good mattress, natural material pillows, linen and bathrobes in a comfortably sized room with ensuite shower/toilet and large dressing room. A delicious breakfast, too!

We are so pleased we found this great B&B! Extremely well run by Debs, with quite genuinely all the nice touches you would find in a 5 star hotel (in fact better than many!).
Some examples are:
Room had separate dressing room with dressing table, hanging space etc
Fridge with fresh milk and chilled water
Nespresso machine
TV with Netflix/Amazon prime etc
Bath robes, slippers, fluffy towels, iron, sewing kit the list goes on!

After we returned from dinner on the first night we discovered a drawer of complimentary goodies that was like Aladdin’s cave!

Breakfast was fantastic, great choice and well cooked to order.

Debs is the perfect host, welcoming, warm and helpful but also clearly experienced enough to allow guests time and space to enjoy their holiday.

Myself and my girlfriend stayed at the heatherlea as a detour from our nc500 trip and we will hopefully be staying again on our next visit to Orkney.
Upon arrival we were greeted by Debbie and straight away we were made to feel very welcome. The room we stayed in was lovely and very clean and had everything we could have needed and more! Breakfast was high quality and offered a good variety, my girlfriend being vegetarian was also very well accommodated for. During breakfast we again had a nice chat with Debbie and mentioned that it was my girlfriends birthday and we were going out to do a bit of sightseeing for it, when we returned to our room we were absolutely delighted to find a card and some fudge and it was a lovely gesture that was very much appreciated! I was also lucky enough to meet findlay, Debbie's very friendly little dog! As we were leaving early at the end of our stay a very lovely "to-go" breakfast bag was made up which was very nice.
Overall our stay at Heatherlea was very memorable and we very much hope to be able to stay again on our next visit!
Thank you!

I travelled to Orkney in January as part of a journalism program at my university. It was the first time I'd ever travelled abroad alone, which could have been highly nerve-inducing. However, Debbie and her husband were so kind and welcoming, and knowledgeable about the area, that I wasn't worried at all about the trip after I landed. From calling taxis, to restaurant recommendations, to the delicious breakfast she offered in the morning, Debbie is a wonderful hostess. And her dog is so cute! The B&B itself is very comfortable, clean and cozy, with great amenities, and it's a very short walk to the town center even in the middle of winter. I can't recommend Heatherlea enough, especially if traveling solo is a new experience for you and you're a bit nervous.

We stayed at Heatherlea for 6 nights and absolutely loved it. Debbie is a brilliant host who runs a faultless operation. The room was really well appointed, with very clever use of space to provide a dressing room as well as a bedroom and bathroom. Breakfast was excellent every day, and we will definitely be back whenever we return to Orkney, which is a certainty as it is an amazing destination.

An absolutely fantastic B&B - friendly host that had planned for everything. The room was perfect, spotless, nice comfy bed. Every corner of the room had a pleasant surprise for us as it had everything and anything you might need for your stay even if just for the night. Unfortunately we left too early to have the cooked breakfast in order to catch the ferry, but Debbie had helpfully left our requested breakfast items in a handy bag in the fridge. Definitely staying here again on our next visit to the island.

Me and my partner stayed here for two nights last week and it was just beyond what we expected. The room was just perfect, every single detail cared for, so thoughtful, stylish and with that amazing home feeling. Debbie was the nicest of hosts, not only friendly but super helpful, making this beautiful property a first class place and ensuring guests have a first class stay. We arrived super early (as our flight was changed), and Debbie allowed us to leave our bags so that we can go and explore the town and even had the room ready for an early check in which we really appreciated. Breakfast was delicious and had good variety. Nice view from the room and everything you could need. Highly recommended. Findlay the dog, is also a sweetheart.

I stayed here for one night in late September 2022. The inn is very quaint and charming. My room was clean, cozy, quiet and comfortable. The bed was comfortable, and I was able to sleep well. The hallway entrance of the hotel smelled very musty; however, the musty odor wasn’t strong in the room, it was very faint & barely noticeable.

The inn owner was very nice, pleasant and friendly. The breakfast was good. The inn is located within walking distance to the center of town and the bus station. Orkney is a lovely small town. I enjoyed my stay at Heatherlea B & B and would stay there again. I recommend Heatherlea B&B.
