Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were placed in Hildeval by Rabbie's and boy, am I glad we were! Our driver stayed here as well and that's very telling. It's located nearby, a quick 10 minute walk from town or a £5/6 cab ride. We had the loveliest hostess who made us feel so welcome. A nice big room on the 1st floor with a picture window overlooking the front yard. Heated towel racks in the bathroom, disposable slippers, coffee and tea in the room. For breakfast we went upstairs to find that the picture window overlooked the sea and the host was a professional chef! Our breakfasts (ordered the night before) came out piping hot and delicious. Everything was homemade and there were ample cold items and fresh fruit on the side tables as well. Fruit was pineapple and strawberries and one day even fresh pomegranate. We were stranded in Orkney an additional night and so we were able to stay for three nights total. It was one of the most pleasant interludes on our trip and if we return to Orkney I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. I was very happy with our stay!!

I visited on July 10 and 11 with Rabbie's tours. Was worried since my room was on the first floor and faced the road that noise would be a bother, but it wasn't. The room was quiet. The bed was comfy. The shower was great. My host was kind. Breakfast was yummy; esoecially the homemade raspberry jam. The breakfast room and lounge area was airy and beautiful. Within walking distance of the water so I had a lovely morning walk before breakfast. No luck seeing the hedgehog but I did get a wee visit with Maisie.

This beautiful place is a dream. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The guest lounge has comfy chairs and a great view over the water. The lounge doubles as the breakfast room and there is not a bad seat in the house - that view! The food was amazing. The local haggis in the full Scottish is a must. As is the smoked salmon and scramble. And the marmalade. Etc. It's about a 15 minute walk to the Kirkwall centre. An amazing stay!!

I stayed here for two nights on a Rabbies Tour. The room and en-suite were very good and breakfast was superb being cooked by a chef who used to work in one of the best restaurants in Orkney.View from the breakfast room was fantastic. The only drawback is it is up a hill about a 15 minute walk from the town.A group of us got taxis there and back. The location is very quiet.

Room Tip: Located up a hill from town so probably need a taxi if you don’t have your own transport.

This was my first visit on the Orkney Islands and I had the chance to stay in this cozy and cute Bed and Breakfast. The owner was very kind and helpful and gave me lots of advises. The most stunning view over the bay and to the islands around I could have from the upper breakfast room. The breakfast itself was delicious and I had a lot of options. Thanks for caring so much, I enjoyed every moment!

Charming and cozy atmosphere, the room was clean and comfortable albeit a little dark. Great breakfasts and very close to Kirkwall downtown but also to the countryside. I really liked the furniture and the decorations in the common spaces. Highly recommended.

We recently stayed at the Hildeval on our tour of the Orkney Islands. Amanda and George (as well as Maisy) were exceptional hosts during our stay. Our room was extremely comfortable. Breakfasts each morning were exceptional (thank you again George). Nice menu to choose from. Everything fresh and prepared to order. The breakfast area was also a beautiful lounge area where you could sit and relax as well during your stay. The views from there were amazing. The location of the B&B was very good as you could walk into Kirkwall to the shops and restaurants. We highly recommend the Hildeval. Thank you again Amanda for letting me get my feet wet in the beautiful sand beaches there. Kathy and Greg.
