We stayed for a week. The hotel has everything one could want or need. The rooms are perfectly finished with the latest in design, quality workmanship, and technology. The interior of the space is modern and up-to-date and the entire building is cleaned to perfection

Breakfast is delicious and served in a beautiful dining room. The hotel location is excellent for access to the town center filled with shops and restaurants. Parking is easy nearby. The area is very walkable.

The WiFi is fast, the hot water is hot, the water pressure is strong, and the bed is comfortable. The hosts are welcoming, interesting, and warm. We'd happily stay again.

We stayed during the pandemic and the hotel has taken many precautions to keep guests and staff safe. We were very impressed.

The renovation from an old print workshop is very tastefully done. There is real character in the design and layout. Old industrial fittings are preserved, with rugged stone, fresh paint and very important, a cosy and welcoming feel. Particularly if the outside water is playing up. We met Judith Glue, the owner and local entrepreneur a number of times and she was helpful and friendly to fault.

It is good to have Kirkwall's best restaurant in the ground floor. The seafood and shell fish choices from the menu can be recommended in particular. This was a very comfortable stay. I deeply enjoyed wandering around the town and exploring the nearby neolithic monuments. I have no idea why it has taken half a life time to get to Orkney. The perceived lack of characterful places to stay may have been part of the delay. No need to worry on that account any more. I'd happily return to the Storehouse for another extended Orkney stay.

The rooms are cozy and spacious with heated wooden floorboards in the bathroom which was great for winter. There is even an elevator servicing the first and second floors where the rooms are located. Bed is super comfortable, room has wifi and tea making facilities as well as delicious short bread biscuits. Location is a minute walk to the main shopping street and also the St. Magnus church as well as the harbour. The restaurant on the ground floor serves a fabulous dinner and is mostly almost full, testimony to the good food and service. While we were there, the restaurant served a small plates menu and the scallops were great. Bar is well stocked with an array of Orkney beers, gin and whiskies. The is a photograph of Wills and Kate having dined there on display in the restaurant. We had the good fortune of meeting the owners David and Judith who grew up in Orkney and they always have time for a chat if you happen to meet them. They were kind enough to tell us the history of the storehouse before the transition into this great restaurant and hotel. Memorabilia from back then can be seen around the restaurant My wife and I intended to stay here for 3 nights before moving to another accomodation but have decided instead to extend our stay here due to the comforts and location of this hotel. If its good enough for royalty its good enough for us!

We travelled to Orkney from NE Scotland for a few days after travel restrictions were lifted. Orkney was still pretty much closed and there was a nervousness in the air but Jane and David made us very welcome and comfortable. We were the only residents so we enjoyed an upgrade to the Storehouse’s best room which included a massive comfy bed, well stocked continental breakfast and a luxurious bathroom. The restaurant was still closed so we didn’t have the opportunity to enjoy a meal but in the context of travelling during Covid, our stay couldn’t have been better - thank you.

By far the best hotel week end have visited in Scotland
Everything seems to be perfect in this recent 8 rooms hotel, from decoration to bedding to appliances and services
Event the small details and lights in the room have been carefully thought of by Mrs Glue.
Although the Covid situation made it a little more quiet (restaurant was closed), the warm welcome and talent of the host were a perfect compensation.
A happy surprise to find such a gem in remote Kirkwall
Week end hope we’ll come again and please try it !

Lacking taste
Our lunch was nicely presented but actually lacked taste. The chefs are trying to be creative but the food just was lacking which was disappointing. I have been here several times and always feel the same . The setting on the other hand is delightful and the refurbishment does to the very highest standard. I suspect this would be a good place to stay as they have rooms. Prices for food are reasonable if they had tasted better.

We ate here and had a lovely evening. They like to book people in to arrive at different times so they can handle the load and that makes things go smoothly. All the local gins and whiskies are on offer and the wines are good value. The food was delicious, and pretty much all local (why not - Orkney has it all to offer). We felt very well looked after and would happily return.

What an absolute treat to stay at The Storehouse. Our maiden voyage to Orkney and this accommodation exceeded all expectations. Beautiful creative touches and genuine comfort link the character and history of the rooms and building. Our hosts, Judith & David, had given careful consideration to meeting all areas of need in light of the restaurant being temporarily closed; and as an result we lacked nothing. Excellent location to explore on foot and by car. Our staycation was every bit as good (if not better!) than our usual vacations across the pond. Thank you most sincerely for a much needed nurturing stay. We will hopefully return very soon.

Impressively renovated with great architecture and interior design. Superbly well appointed bedrooms. Good central location. We had two very good three course meals too. The only issue we had whilst there was the sound proofing and unfortunately, as in other places we’ve stayed, building regulations acceptable sound proofing between rooms is not good enough when you’ve got large flat screen TVs backing onto your adjoining wall in the room next door - particularly when someone has it on at 2.30am! We could actually hear all the stories clearly on BBC 24 hour News! To be fair the hotel resolved the issue with the occupant of the room and it was not a problem thereafter.

Stayed 4 nights, had dinner on two nights. Accommodation is excellent. Comfortable beds, great shower and luxury deep bath. Lovely toiletries to ease away the aches of busy days sightseeing. Great location at the heart of Kirkwall. We were worried by the lack of parking but it was never an issue and always managed to park close by. Breakfast and dinners were excellent. Particularly recommend the smoothies and the scallops. Like the fact they supply fresh milk rather than UHT, that sums up their attention to detail. Service in the restaurant and of the rooms was exemplary, no mean feat given the staffing shortages in hospitality. Definitely recommend.
