Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I first stayed here 10 years ago & the return visit didn’t disappoint. Travelling with my 93 year old Mother we had a wonderful stay. Superb accommodation & breakfasts, outstanding views both in the bedroom & guest lounge, and only a few minutes walk from the centre of Kirkwall. Little extras in the room such as fresh milk & bottled water in the fridge. The room was spacious, spotless, with the en-suite well laid out with a large shower cubicle, plus seating which meant a disabled visitor like myself could wash & dress in safety & comfort.
Carolyn the host was extremely helpful with advice where to eat and getting about. She also drove us to the Travel Centre each morning of our stay & down to a restaurant on our first night as we had had a long journey.
Really cannot praise both the B&B and Carolyn enough!

My husband and I enjoyed 3 nights in Benmora. Carolyn really looked after us. The breakfast was excellent, cereals, fruit and cooked breakfast. I loved her porridge - the best in Scotland! I loved eating breakfast looking out over the harbour. The bedroom was spacious with a lovely bathroom. The location is ideal, just a few minute's walk into the town with plenty of places to eat nearby. We would definitely stay again. Thank you Carolyn!

We spent 3 nights in Kirkwall, based at Bewnmora. Carolyn s w onderful hostess, and a great cook (lavish breakfasts) ! We had a spacious room with a comfortable bathroom, and the house is very clean and well maintained. The private guest lounge with TV was a great place to unwind. Lots of little touches like chocolate bars and cookies left in the room every evening. It's located a few minutes from the town centre, with onsite parking. A no-brainer choice for Kirkwall.

Stayed in Benmora and had the warmest and kindest hostess ever in Carolyn. We had arrived on a rainy day and our luggage had not arrived with us! Carolyn found us pajamas, toothbrushes, toothpaste and warm cardigans! Made sure our rooms were always warm and toasty. Offered to drive us to the airport to pick up our luggage when it arrived and drove us to our dinner place when it was cold and rainy. Her kindness will always be remembered!
The rooms were all comfortable and the view from the dinning room and guest lounge are amazing!

Myself and my daughter have just returned from Orkney, and stayed at Benmora B&B. This is the friendliest, most homely ,comfortable, immaculate ,B&B I have ever stayed in and I have travelled worldwide.Carolyn the owner went way beyond expectations to make our visit very special. We can highly recommend Benmora to anyone planning a visit to Orkney. .
Also only five minute walk to shops and spectacular views. Looking forward to our next visit.

Very nice B&B situated close to harbour with great views from guest lounge and breakfast room. Easy to walk to town centre for meals. Comfortable room (with chairs so you don't have to watch TV sitting on the bed) with superb shower, nothing to criticise really, honest to goodness B&B

Benmora is a small B&B superbly situated for day-tripping around Orkney, overlooking Kirkwall harbour. The B&B has three rooms, all en suite - two doubles and one twin. All the bedrooms are upstairs in the property. None of the rooms have a view overlooking Kirkwall harbour, but there is a guest lounge, also upstairs, that does have a great view to that side of the property. The B&B is only a five minute walk in to the centre of Kirkwall and there is off-road parking available at the accommodation. There is free Wi-Fi at the B&B.

The booking process was nice and easy, the welcome on arrival was cheery and Carolyn was always friendly and willing to help.

Our room (one of the doubles) was very spacious, immaculately clean, with comfortable chairs, a hairdryer, flat screen tv with freeview and a built-in DVD player. There was a kettle and mini-fridge in the room and a good amount of tea/coffee/sugar and biscuits every day. None of these horrible little tubs of fake milk either - fresh milk every day left in the mini fridge. The room had plenty of storage space and there was an extra (winter weight) duvet and a fluffy blanket in the wardrobe. The only thing I would say is that my husband and I both found the mattress to be very hard. Now, we like a firm mattress but this was a bit too much on the firm side. However, we do understand that this is wholly down to personal preference and it is impossible to cater for everyone. In our opinion, certainly, we would much rather have a mattress that was too firm than have a mattress that was too soft. Perhaps a firm mattress with the option of a good, thick mattress topper folded up in the wardrobe?

The en suite had a fantastic big shower that had instant hot water and great water pressure. There was shower gel and shampoo and ample towels in the bathroom.

The dining room was downstairs with a lovely view across the harbour. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Served between 7.15am and 8.45am (or earlier by request), it consisted of tea or coffee, fruit juice, a selection of fresh fruits, yoghurt, white or brown toast with butter and a selection of preserves, a selection of cereals with a large jug of fresh milk on each table. Over and above, cooked to order, you could have porridge and/or a full cooked breakfast, choosing from sausages, bacon, black pudding, beans, grilled tomato, mushrooms and free range eggs (fried, scrambled, poached or boiled). The eggs, I think, were from their own chickens. You could tell they were free range and fresh.

Overall, I would definitely recommend Benmora to anyone visiting Orkney and looking for a B&B. Breakfast was fab, location was fab and the welcome and service throughout our stay was also fab! We will be back.

The setting is stunning, a wide view of the harbour, minutes walk from the quiet Kirkwall hub, perfect facilities, warmest welcome and every possible special touch.

Simply superlative.

What sets this apart? A guest lounge with a view, armchairs and wine glasses so you can byo and relax. Spacious fully equipped rooms with a silent fridge and personal fresh milk and water, the place is utterly spotless (chemically free cleaned with ENJO apparently so safer for my eczema and asthma), choccy biscuits in room.

The icing on thi s perfect cake. The owners. I have NEVER felt more welcome ANYWHERE. Well done Carolyn and Alec.

The value is exceptional.

Worth my 761 miles to get here. Xxxxxx
