Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a lovely stay for two nights. Our room was spotless. There was a large bathroom and the water was hot. We were greeted warmly when we arrived as part of a Rabbies Tour Company. Breakfast was included and it was just what we wanted. The wifi was excellent.

I was booked in to this guest house by a tour company, Rabbies, who were guiding us around Orkney. We stayed for two nights. It's clean, but pretty unspecial in location, decor and breakfast and I was surprised how much was being charged. I found the woman who met myself and some of the others also staying there rather brusque, which did not improve. There was just no warmth or attempt at friendliness. I understand that this is the daughter of the owner who is covering for her due to serious ill health. Whilst anyone would be sympathetic about these circumstances this is still running as a business and it just isn't ok to make it clear that paying guests are a chore/ nuisance.

I travelled to Orkney on my own as part of a tour group. The guest house have me a large room and bathroom. It was very good for me. After busy days, I relaxed there in the evening with excellent WiFi. The breakfast was delicious. Recommended

The Polrudden Guest House is a clean and simple place to stay. It has the basic necessities for a comfortable visit including a hot shower and fast WiFi. The family that owns this guest house are warm and welcoming. Their breakfast is very good and the location is not far from the main shops and restaurants nearby. The walls are thin; however, most of my visit was quiet.

Donna Underwood 3/5 a month ago on Google This place was booked by AAA travel because it was the only place they were associated that was not an expensive hotel. Front door not clearly marked. We arrived a bit early and wandered around and in the building quite a bit before someone popped out. We were booked for a double room and the owner insisted we were booked in a twin room. It took quite a few uncomfortable minutes before she agreed to place is in the appropriately booked room. She kept saying she would move other guests but they wouldn't be happy. Be aware you are given a breakfast selection paper the first day for your whole stay. This is the first of many B&B's that did this. All others have a selection sheet each evening for the next day. We expected same and were told no different here so it created much uncomfort in attempting to let her know our selection when we arrived there after a day of touring. I tried the phone number which would not work. I finally went to the door marked private and knocked at 930 pm until she came down only to be told we couldn't change our selection. After several more uncomfortable minutes, she agreed to add the poriage we wanted to the next morning meal. The owner simply seemed bothered with any requests made. The breakfast was good and the young woman that served us was extremely kind and fun to chat with. She even brought us homemade shortbread from her aunt one morning. Her daughter is adorable. Room and bath was nice with lots of room. No sitting room to relax in like most B&B's. Convenient to the city Central. We have marked this place off our list of future stays.

A small room, but clean and cozy, about a 5-10 minute walk to the town center. Great breakfast, but the same both mornings. Rabbie's booked this for us and it was fine. Shortbread in the room was a nice treat.

We arrived as part of a group after a long journey. Stacey, daughter of the proprietor, greeted us and indicated room 6, upstairs. Upstairs we found only rooms 1-3. My friend went back down to check with Stacey whether we'd got the room number or location wrong. Stacey snapped at her: "Yes, ok, I made a mistake, but this is not my guest house". As my friend headed back upstairs, shocked, another of our party said they'd prefer to swap with us as room 6 was downstairs and easier for her. A couple of minutes later, Stacey knocked on our door. My friend answered it and Stacey continued arguing with her that it wasn't her property; when my friend said that the initial mistake wasn't a problem at all but the way she had dealt with is was, Stacey kept arguing. I couldn't believe my ears, came out of the bathroom and asked Stacey to stop being rude to my friend. She then asked us to leave. We'd been there five minutes. This really was a shocking experience - the first time either of us has ever been kicked out of a B&B (we're two respectful people in our 30's and 40's). Particularly horrible after a long journey and because Orkney is pretty remote with limited accommodation - we struggled to find alternative accommodation that evening. We have had no apology.
