Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The hotel is super central, and you can walk everywhere from here. It lies next to a bar, and it was a bit noisy when we stayed- but I think it closed at 23.00, so it was ok. Very nice people who worked there

We visited this hotel for a week in August this year, and had a lovely stay! The hotel is ideally positioned in the centre of Kirkwall, very close to the harbour, and we went on a few coach tours and ferry journeys, which departed from Kirkwall too. The hotel room was lovely and comfortable, with a varied choice of food for both breakfast and evening meals. We'd recommend it, and would return.

We stayed here with friends (two of them from Scotland) for 3 nights in May 2023. When we arrived in the afternoon, no one was at the reception. A sign said to go to the bar which belongs to the hotel round the corner so we packed our luggage and went there but - oh wonder - the door was open but again nobody there. We waited for some minutes and phoned the hotel's number, we heard it ring but again nobody showed. After about 10 minutes someone came, no excuse, no friendly welcome. We asked if we could have something to drink as we had a long journey but were told this would only be possible at 5 p.m. (it was 4.45 and we stood already in the bar)...Then we were showed the way to our rooms which were ok although rather small for so called luxury rooms. The next morning we had breakfast at 8.30 a.m. - too late as we noticed because the - already very small - buffet was lacking most of the items, hardly any ham, cheese, fruit and 2 (!) boiled eggs (the next day there weren't any at all). 3 of us ordered a full Scottish breakfast which was ok but also rather scarce. The other 3 of us ordered porridge which was good but no question whether we wanted a cooked breakfast afterwards as we are used from every hotel and b&b in Scotland. The waitress didn't say good morning nor bye or anything else (except the woman from Aberdeen who served the last morning, she was very kind). On the morning we left the lady at the reception got us our bills, we payed and left. No 'how did you like your stay', no 'safe journey', no good-bye. This was by far the worst experience we ever made in Scotland (we are here regularly and traveled all around Scotland) and this at a price of 175 GBP per night.

Good location in the heart of Kirkwall. The room was updated and well maintained. The hotel room (especially the bathroom) was a bit small for two people. The room size was somewhat typical for Europe. The included breakfast was very good. Breakfast was a la carte. In addition, there was a self serve area for fruit, bread/toast, cereal, coffee, etc. See video on YouTube Channel: nwaynesworld

The Albert Hotel is nearly impossible to find which is not what you need at the end of a long tiring day. Thw names of the Hotel or the lane on which it is located are not visible while driving nearby.. Despite selecting for a hotel with parking on booking.com only public parking was available.

Nice room with lots of power outlets, comfy bed and great bathroom. A small thing but something I was very happy with was the bathroom window was set back about two feet leaving a large, flat surface to put all your stuff. There was a nice chair at the foot of the bed in front of the TV in case you wanted to watch before bedtime. The restaurant was very good, I ate there two of the three days I was in Kirkwall. No elevator that I noticed but it's not a tall structure.

Great to be greeted as we arrived well after check-in on the late ferry :) Really well-appointed room, very comfortable, nice chairs under window, so somewhere to relax. Plenty tea/coffee. Ate there both evenings, we had lamb on champ with redcurrant jus, and fish in a fab sauce with roast vine tomatoes, really pleasant atmosphere in restaurant, obviously lots of people enjoying themselves and staff happy to help, despite sporting presentation going on simultaneously. Choice of kippers or smoked haddock, both were good at breakfast plus buffet and usual farmhouse cooked breakfast. Tea and coffee bought to table, I appreciate this! Excellently placed for meandering into Kirkwall, not got its own carpark, but plenty of public available nearby. Also has lift. 100% visit again if we come to Orkney.

My wife and I spent 2 nights here and enjoyed our stay. The room was good sized and quite comfortable and well equipped. The bathroom was very large, but there was only a small sink and no shelves - my only complaint. We were there over a very busy weekend with lots of festivals and that explains the premium price we paid. Its advertised prices for non-festival weekends seem reasonable. As a final note it was also clear that the hotel was understaffed and it was rare to actually see anyone at the front desk, nonetheless, breakfast was excellent and the young woman who ran the breakfast room was amazing and deserves great respect for all she does. She even checked us out when no one was available for the front desk.

Hotel was clean but totally overpriced. There was next to zero customer service and what you could find was given grudgingly. The residents bar 'the neuk' was a joke.. You couldn't go in just for a drink you had to book a table for food else it was a no go area.. Absolutely rubbish. Also, the photos you see of this hotel are nothing like it in reality. Overall really poor. We won't be back.

We stayed at the Albert Hotel for 3 nights while getting to know Kirkwall. If you are expecting anything extra cushy or fancy, this is not the place for you - but the hotel is clean, staff are friendly and helpful, and accessories (e.g., tea and biscuits, shampoo) are provided. The bar and restaurant are very nice - not five-star, but you will find what you need at a reasonable cost. At one point our window was stuck open so late one evening we had to call the hotel staff for help - and they responded immediately and were very kind about it. A couple of highlights for us: 1. When we arrived, we asked at the desk about the availability of a guide to see Scara Brae and other archaeological sites. We were provided with a card to contact Leslie (not certain of last name), who was BY FAR the highlight of our trip. He was so knowledgeable and accommodating. If you want to see the sites through educated eyes, ask at the desk for Leslie. 2. The young woman who monitored the breakfast service was so sweet and friendly. To the Albert owners: I did not get her name, but the service was on Thursday and Friday, August 4 and 5 - do not lose this woman. She is a gem.
