Our reception on arrival was wonderful, it was like being greeted by an old friend even though we’d never been before. Friendly, warm and cheerful. Our room was beautiful, large windows on both sides of the room with stunning views. Newly refurbished bathroom with bath and shower. The whole place is spotless. Breakfast was fantastic, freshly cooked and a good selection. Enough to last until your evening meal. Although we never had an evening meal there it smelled gorgeous when we were walking through.
It is a perfect location for everything you need.
We went for up helly aa which is an event I would recommend seeing.
A big thank you to all the staff for our wonderful few days!

I only had one nights stay at this hotel while on a business trip.
I have stayed at several other hotels on Shetland and wanted to give myself a treat by staying in one of the islands 4 star establishments.
Unfortunately I was a little disappointed.
The decor in the room was a little tired; the en-suite was dated and the shower had a poor flow.
I did have a good nights sleep though.
I ate in the hotels bar restaurant. There was a good selection of food and the portions were substantual.
There was also a fair choice for breakfast.
I would rate the food 3.5/5 for taste.
However, I felt that at £89 for a single person the hotel was over-rated.

I recently stayed here for 3 nights and was very impressed. The rooms were first class and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was fantastic especially the smoked haddock with the best poached eggs I have had. The evening meals were also great and the quality and quantity was more than ample. Price was a little higher than I usually like to pay for the room and food but taking into consideration the excellent facilities through out it was worth paying a bit more. All the staff were helpful and made you feel welcome. Most enjoyable stay and will go back.

This is not a good hotel - more a guest house of exceptionally bad value. Tatty rooms (some of which smell mouldy), decrepit communal areas, surly staff, greedy management, astonishingly bad plumbing (you sometimes have to wash your hands in the bath as there’s no hot water to the sink), bad food.
The bathrooms have been recently modernised but some are very smelly. Let’s just say the bedrooms have definitely not been modernised, and neither have the communal areas and restaurant.
The restaurant resembles a 1980s bedroom, though it was probably considered bad taste even then. It’s suitable setting for the food, however, which is poor. This is food made with boredom rather than passion, something evidenced by the fact that the menu hasn’t changed in years. You do not go unattended to, though, by the waiting staff who watch your every move hawk-like while they pretend to clean glasses. A most uncomfortable experience.
If you have valuables with you then take care – windows do not have locks and there are no safes in the rooms.
Accommodation in Lerwick is pricey and anyway due to undersupply and this tight market probably accounts for the management’s attitude to its guests. There are much better places to stay in this town – and they’re all cheaper. Avoid this one.

Three of us went here last night for dinner before we went to the cinema. It was terrible.
Two of us ordered cheesy potato skins to start, which were very greasy. I ordered a prawn cocktail, which had so much marie-rose sauce it made me feel ill. The prawns and salad were underneath with a mountain of sauce on the top. There wasn't even enough room in the bowl to mix it in properly - it was not what I was expecting at all.
For our mains we ordered a mixed grill, chicken & ham pasta and BBQ chicken with cheesy potato skins. The mixed grill had one small bit of lamb, a dry bit of gammon and one sausage. The onion rings were soggy and everything was greasy, including the chips. The pasta was very bland and everything, including the meat, was washed out & white. It also had a taste of stock cube that hadn't been mixed in properly. The chicken, although it was tasty enough, was dry. The potato skins were greasy. I could have eaten it but I felt so sick after eating the obscure amount of marie-rose sauce that I barely touched it.
The staff were friendly enough, but our waitress struggled to understand what we were saying.
I've definitely had far better meals for a lot cheaper. I don't mind paying extra if what you get is worth it, but this certainly wasn't. £67 wasted, and ruined a good night. It's a good job the film we watched afterwards was good or it would have been a 60 mile round trip to Lerwick for nothing.
Do not go here to eat. There's a lot of places in Lerwick that are far more deserving of your time & money. If I could give it 0/5 I would.

On a recent trip to Shetland in our camper van we decided to treat ourselves to two nights at this hotel. This is one of 3 hotels operated by this company in Lerwick, but is more of a traditional hotel than it's companions in the group.

The welcome was excellent and the staff really helpful. We had previously asked if we could leave some luggage with them while we were away on our trips and they were very obliging. The hotel is only a short walk from the town centre and amenities.

The room was clean and very comfortable and avoided my pet hate in hotel double rooms by providing TWO comfortable chairs. The restaurant offered a fairly limited menus but was of a good standard. We were rather keen to try the local mussels and though they were not on the menu the chef managed to rustle some up for us.

I am happy to recommend this hotel to any traveller to Shetland.

Although we arrived in Lerwick at lunch time on the third last day of May the weather was cold, as expected!, so we were delighted to find that our hotel was comfortably warm throughout and continued to be so during our stay of four nights.

Our twin-bedded room was bright and airy, and provided ample storage space for clothes. The wardrobe had really user-friendly hangers with which we had no need to struggle, as is often the case with fixed hangers. We particularly appreciated the generous supply of tea, coffee. hot chocolate, milk and shortbread, replenished daily, and the provision of a teapot as well as a kettle.

The bathroom, while compact, had clearly been upgraded recently to provide the most up-to-date fittings and furnishings, including a fantastic twin-headed shower with one head being of dinner plate size. Lovely thick hand towels and bath towels were changed daily, there was a constant supply of piping hot water, with efficient temperature control for individual tastes, and all the usual toiletries were provided.

Breakfast was of the help-yourself-from-the-buffet type for juices, fruits, cereals and some particularly delicious yoghurts, while freshly cooked-to-order hot dishes were served at table. The full Scottish breakfast comprising numerous items was especially appetising, but there were also some very tempting fish dishes of Scottish kippers and Scottish haddock.

Staff in this small hotel deserve special mention for being so friendly, attentive and helpful and housekeeping staff can be proud of the excellent job they do in keeping all parts of the hotel clean and fresh.

The only negative relates to the pillows which we found to be unyielding and uncomfortable and sadly, of the type found too often in hotels that offer no pillow menu.

But I must not end on a sour note because this is a very good small hotel that offers fair value for money and is staffed by nice friendly people.

The hotel is small, perfectly located, and comfortable. The staff is incredibly attentive and friendly. The menu is fairly small and all foods are well-prepared and excellently presented. The town centre and wharf are only a 3-minute walk from the hotel.

Look, this place doesn’t advertise itself as anything more than a 3-Star hotel and that’s what it is. And you can’t get much more in Shetland. The rooms are serviceable and clean and well-supplied. There are towel warmers in the bathroom. What makes this hotel better than your average 3-Star hotel is the hospitality of the staff and the quality of the food. We were very welcomed by the staff and we had two delicious breakfasts and one delicious dinner in the hotel restaurant. We are grateful that we had such a nice experience in such a remote place.

I travelled solo to Lerwick for 2 nights and stayed in a B&B just outside the town. When it came to getting an evening meal, the other 2 main hotels in Lerwick wouldn’t give me a table. They were admittedly busy and I hadn’t pre-booked but they were unfriendly and made it clear they weren’t interested in seating a solo traveller. The Kveldsro however was a breath of fresh air and I was welcomed and made to feel a valued customer. I had a lovely meal, the Scampi was nice and fresh and the whole meal was of a high standard. The staff could’t have been nicer.
