We had booked the Kveldsro Hotel but were moved to The Lerwick as the Kveldsro remains closed. All sea view rooms were allocated but I did request a hairdryer and although all rooms have a wall mounted one, my request was fulfilled by an additional hand held one that was perfect. Our room 303 was large with a double + a single bed, 2 big arm chairs and lots of space but the decor was a little tired. The bathroom however was ultra modern with a fab bath and a waterfall shower. It would have been fab to have a king sized bed in such a big room. Breakfast was fine but containers only got replenished in request. Evening meals were excellent, good value, tasty food and a good choice. We pointed out that the black Venetian blinds in the Brasserie were both dusty and covered in crumbs as we checked out. The staff were minimal in numbers and could have worked more efficiently, clearing tables instead of walking back into the kitchen empty handed…..breakfast tables often looked very untidy when we arrived for breakfast at 8am.
Rooms were only serviced on request which worked well as a table was set aside for guests to help themselves to loo rolls, tea coffee milk etc. We did ask for our room to be serviced one morning - the reception person advised that it would have been better if we asked the evening before for planning purposes. This was not pointed out when we checked in however our room was serviced.
All in all, we had a fab holiday - the hotel is perfectly situated for walks into town or a coastal walk. It has a good sized car park and our motor bike was safe there each night.

So , we were here for a birthday meal, beautiful views of the sea and a really lovely waitress who was really good with the kids took our order.
All was good untill the starter arrived , i had the arranchini which was billed as having smoked chicken inside , not only had chef forgotten the chicken but it was also devoid of any seasoning what so ever then the crowning glory was to find a long black hair in it , not great , anyhoo the maitre de was very apologetic about it and offered to deduct it from the bill ,all good and what you would expect.
The meal continued to the mains , one of the party had ordered finnan haddie which was presented well , however the poached egg had barely seen a pot of hot water and was "snotty " raw i mentioned this to our waiter when he asked if everything was ok and was fully expecting another visit from the maitre de and at least the egg to be removed from the bill , NA !, NA! i couldn't have been more wrong the young man announced with dead pan delivery "well , at least it didn't have a hair in it " i know i should have said something at the time but i think i'm still in shock !

An older style hotel with attention to cleanliness and service. The rooms are not handicapped accessible but they are large and and have an excellent view of the headlands . The bathroom was clearly a recent high quality renovation. Coffee and tea were available in the room as well as biscuits, which is a nice touch.

Meals were generous portions and well prepared. The quality and variety of the food was impressive.

COVID limited the number of times that our room was cleaned but when we asked the staff were courteous and responsive.

When we were checking in, the cleaning staff offered to carry our bags to our room and the same occurred when we were checking out.

We would stay here when we return to Lerwick

I should start with that the front desk folks were very kind and super-helpful. The folks working in the restaurant were kind but often seemed as if they just woke up from a nap and weren't ready to interact with anyone. Melancholy. The front exterior of the hotel is a little deceiving as it looks so modern. Once you enter the hotel it immediately changes to a very 90's feel, and then when you get to your room it feels like you're staying a few nights at your grandmother's house. I'm assuming they're going through a slow remodel as some of the rooms on their website look very nice with modern amenities. My biggest gripe about this hotel was the bathroom. My particular room had the toilet right up against the wall and the heated towel right right next to that. So you have to sit sideways on the toilet so as not to burn your leg on the towel rack. I'm not a big person and I still had to sit sideways. It works, sure, but it's kinda weird. The room was clean but not as clean as it could be. Needed a good dusting. The painted over wallpaper was peeling in a lot of places in the room which made it feel very run down. There is a huge flatscreen TV with lots of channels if you get stuck inside or just need some wind-down time in front of the TV. The breakfast was pretty good, you have a lot of choices from cold to ready-made hot options. The dinner at the restaurant is decent. A good amount of options and the food was all pretty good. Someone else mentioned their steak was cooked poorly but mine was cooked to perfection. No complaints. I would stay here again but I would request one of the nicer/newly remodeled rooms.

Room rate was £156 per night with breakfast, and that’s the key point: if it were lower then these issues would be less important.

This was our first visit to Shetland, and we wanted to include time in Lerwick in a ‘proper hotel’ – it was difficult to find rooms. We saw some very negative review comments but we thought we’d give it a go.

Room issues
Very hot – heating through an old style wall heater – so we had to open windows to cool the room. Metal surface is close to being dangerously hot.
Window frames – as mentioned in reviews, have flaking paint and exposed woodwork.
Wallpaper – as mentioned in reviews, peeling – not falling off the walls – but definitely peeling.
Toiletries – good for hotels to minimise single-use plastic, but what was provided felt stingy.

Breakfast
The buffet had few offerings (no bread at all) and lacked appeal: we had a better continental breakfast in Magnus Lounge on the ferry.
Service should have been better.

We didn’t, but were asked to change room after the 1st night due to a hotel booking error.

Positives
Spacious room.
Nice bathroom: no peeling wallpaper !
Good cooked breakfast.

This hotel is a total disgrace! The single room allocated was less than 7m square. Dead flies in the light shade. The shower had mould in the corners, the sink was so small one hand filled it, had to squeeze in behind door to access toilet and then had to sit at an angle to avoid banging off hot towel rail. On complaining the scruffy looking manager shrugged and said “your employer booked a single so that’s what you get”.

I asked if I could pre-order 2 hard boiled eggs for breakfast the evening before, same manager said “chef will be too busy”

Cost to my employer for the stay? Discounted rate of £125.00

The room was so small as was the bed, which didn't have sheets to fit it, too small. I felt that they put a single sheet on a very small double bed. We had to try n remake it on the second night. Pillows hard as rock, asked for a replacement on day two, still waiting and we left today. We asked for a larger room or least larger bed, nope we are full so you have to take it

Cobwebs all over the ceiling, wall paper falling off, skirting boards I can only describe as manky! Cleaner did come to clean cobwebs but we were still in the room! Eh wait until we leave for the day. Used Covid for non servicing of rooms, have to ask at reception for towels etc......although no one used the sanitiser they said we had too (remember covid, servicing of rooms!) We paid £174.00 a night for this awful room. We were up in Shetland for Up Helly Aa which was brilliant but the hotel was anything but.

We had originally booked the Kveldsro Hotel but unfortunately it wasn’t open so we were transferred to the Lerwick.
Hotel reception was modern as was the dining room (sea views) and the bar/area which was very comfortable.
Breakfasts were ok and our one evening meal during our stay was tasty.
We could not fault the staff at all, Angus, Scott and the lady at reception were very helpful and polite. The hotel didn’t appear to have many staff so these 3 seemed to be running the place between them.
We had a sea view bedroom which was quite dark and tired looking. However there was a high standard of cleanliness and the small bathroom which looked like it had been recently updated had plenty of hot water.
The hotel is in easy walking distance of the town with plenty of parking.

We went in at 12 and there was 1 other table with 2 people in the restaurant, ordered our meal which was only 1 course. We waited for 45 minutes for our food to come, food was ok but the fish was on a fish shaped plate and there was no room for sauce etc.

Then we order ice cream which took so long that we nearly left without it. We basically had to eat fast to get out we had been in there 1 hour 45 minutes. Way too long especially when you have children or someone who has to go back to work.

The hotel is situated on the outskirts of Lerwick, overlooking the bay and my room had a great view.
My room was a bit tired - the radiator was falling off the wall and there was a musty smell. I had the window open whilst I was in the room. Plenty of hot water.
I was disappointed that the room wasn’t serviced daily.
We ate dinner in the restaurant - the food was ok but not special.
Porridge at breakfast was nice.
