Just finished a short break at the Hotel Victoria and it is a very mixed review.

For us it ticked boxes on location, price and it having an outdoor pool. The breakfast was nice with cereals, toast and a cooked breakfast and the beds clean & comfortable. The staff responsible for breakfast were very pleasant and friendly as was the younger gentleman who worked the bar and reception.

It fell down in lots of other ways though. The rooms were very dated and tatty with broken drawer handles and light fittings and although they were clean, a good deep clean wouldn't have gone amiss. The pool area had no buoyance aid and needed a good tidy up and the pool itself, whilst clean, could have probably done with a 'hoover'. Breakfast is only between 8am and 9am which may be restrictive for some. The car park is small and if your car is a decent size, its a struggle. The bar didn't open long enough and the seating could have been organised better, it was lots of chairs with very small tables. Customer service wise, I think the older gentleman on reception and bar is in the wrong job! He was very abrupt and surly, if he spoke at all! It's a shame really as it could be a really nice place.

We only used the hotel as a base so for our trip this time it was ok but I doubt we will be back.

Pros first..
Very near beach, lovely efficient staff at breakfast with choice of cooked breakfast, cereal, and coffee, toast replenished as requested, Jackie who oversaw breakfast was super. Bed comfy and nice clean linen, towels changed daily.

Cons..
Well bedrooms were small, and all needed updating, our room had a dirty wall from coffee stains and bath needed resealing, bit grubby generally. Steep stairs upto rooms which if old or disabled would be a massive issue. Swimming pool could so easier be a plus but it was dirty and unkempt. The biggest issue was the staff on reception, bar who lacked any hospitality at all, despite it being advertised as having entertainment (it didn't) the bar shut one night at 10pm and another at 11pm without any warning with people still socialising.

This could be a little gem of a place but sadly is being let down by lots of things that could be corrected.

The rooms were all very dated, not very clean and the furniture etc was falling to bits. Dust everywhere, mattress not clean though sheets were and the beds were actually comfortable.
bathrooms are tiny, no room to move. the towels were almost handkerchief size.
the pool was a bonus but money should be spent on the hotel interiors not on a pool.
Jackie was the only light on a dark trip. she did her very best for everyone. she was not the owner or the manager or even the duty manager, that post was held by a man who was never available. Jackie was simply in charge of the food during our trip. evening meals were average but breakfasts were plentiful and tasty. the food staff were all very friendly and helpful and so pleasant and could not do enough for us. we were on a Caledonian bus trip and there were 42 of us but we all had hot breakfasts with plenty of toast and tea. evening entertainment was below average most nights and drinks were expensive. i would not go to this hotel again EVER but would congratulate Jackie and her little team (including bar staff) on their great service. in real terms Jackie was probably the catering manger and she did a great job under trying circumstances. ie no help from hotel management. pity the management staff were invisible when needed.

This place encapsulates everything that has gone wrong with the Great British holiday. Starting from the outside, it is clear the place has not been maintained, with water stained, flaking exterior paint and weeds growing in the unloved garden area. As soon as I sat on my bed I felt the wires from the base through the thin old mattress, to be fair, the manager did move me to a different room when I complained. The interior is grim, with battered old furniture, a multitude of botched repairs and in a state of general decay. I noted holes in the dining room ceiling from old water leaks, where they had not bothered to make good the damage caused. The three course meal was watery, bland tomato soup, main tastleless chicken fillet in dishwater gravy with a side of soggy green beans and sweetcorn, clearly out of a bag from the freezer and dessert a very mediocre microwaved apple pie and custard, which was the only course I ate much of, after leaving most of the soup and "chicken dinner". When a member of staff asked the stock question: "is everything OK?"and I honestly answered "no", the response was embarrassed silence and no offer tp put anything right.
Later that evening I tried to run a bath, only to find there was no hot water, rather lukewarm. Not to be defeated, I used the kettle several times to bring the bath up to a warm enough temperature just to quickly bathe and wash my hair.
Breakfast the following day was OK, as in just barely satisfactory. For lunch I tried the salad, nothing special, but again edible, thankfully.
This place is a sad waste of a great location close to all the main amenities Great Yarmouth has to offer, with sad staff who looked stressed and miserable.

We visited recently leaving 16th Sept, room was v small for 2 people, dirty curtains windows fittings and walls. Too warm up upstairs, during this time the facilities anything you touch should be v clean. Asked to wear masks in hallways, we seemed to be of the minority. During breakfast, served for 1 hour this became too busy for the staff, a extended time is necessary for customers and staff. Cleaning of chairs and tables was to clean disposable covers on the tables! Why not just remove covers and clean tables or throw away these covers, underneath was covers to be remained! Breakfast was cooked before the serving time, and kept hot I think there is a certain time to only keep food warm for, eggs were like plastic and hard. The cereals provided were good individual packs, and they kept my milk fro me as I’m dairy intolerant. The receptionist needs a bomb under him! Although when asked to serve a drink he seemed pleasant I think he enjoyed the bar service.. The pool made it so much better for me it was surprisingly warm and pleasant, this area could be so much nicer with a few recliners and bar service during good days. The hotel is shabby, location good, car park tight even with a small car, but street parking is available.

When we arrived we noticed instantly that the room was not cleaned very well. There was black dirt over the surface by the window and hairs on the towels and in the bath. We headed out straight away to buy cleaning product, as we didn't want someone coming in our room again due to social distancing. Although, there definitely was someone coming in everyday to give more towels etc even though we purposely didn't put out our 'please clean' sign. Our room itself was very dated and was made to feel even more dingy but the odd brown leather effect wallpaper behind the bed. It didn't match at all with the other walls and stood out for the wrong reasons. The furniture in our room was very old with bits visibly falling off. The bath panel even fell off on our last day! The breakfast was actually not too bad and the lady running it was lovely. I would suggest parking on the street outside as the car park shouldn't really be used as such. The room to get out of spaces is tiny and the road is free anyway. The men on reception could be a little happier and forge a smile every now and then. The view from out room was beautiful but sadly, we definitely wouldn't return again.

Dirty, dangerous and in need of knocking down. The reception didn't ask our names and just gave us keys obviously assumed who was checking in. It was dirty and grubby from the entrance. Me and work colleague stayed here for one night. Single deluxe they are called, should be single sxxtholes. Both our rooms were dirty and dangerous. Mini floursent lights with the metal ends exposed (you know the live bits). My room had something growing below the sink, the window was so dirty I first thought it was a screen to stop people looking in, no it was just dirty. The remote for TV looks like it came from when heavy smoking was allowed. My work colleague had a look at the pool and said it was a disgrace, dirty and looks like it would probably kill you. Whoever these people are writing 5 stars are either fakes or need an eye test. AVOID AVOID AVOID. Their website says its where you holidays dreams start, the must of mixed up dreams with nightmares.

The only thing this hotel has going for it is the outside pool and the location. My wife and I just got back from this hotel and we would never stay here again our room 39 top floor says small double it should only be a single at best .cleaners supposedly came in every day but didn't clean for example put 2 sheets ot toilet roll at side of toilet on floor when we got there still there when we left the room was the smallest dirtiest one we've been in the bed was rock hard and looked like it came from a landfill site the sink leaked every time we used it soaked a pair of the wifes shoes had to bin them just a filthy hovel would not recommend at all awful musty smell all the time

Booked two nights at this hotel spent 7 hours there and left. When we arrived our car would not fit in the car park as spaces were to small had to park on the street. When we got the keys to our rooms there was a stench of cigarette smoke as someone was smoking in there room. When we opened the door to our room was really out dated black mould on the nets a wardrobe that only 1 door opened. The bed was an old spring metal framed thing you only had to look at it and it made a noise. The bathroom was disgusting I refused to use it. Wanted to go home straight away but as we had places booked next day decided to stay. By 7am next morning we walked out never stayed for breakfast as we was put off. Just wished I read the reviews on here before booking. We booked through booking.com and the pictures on there were not as we seen them in reality. Have complained to the property but there just money grabbers.

VERY DISAPPOINTING

Liked · The location was good, Breakfast was also very good and presented very well, Jackie and staff at breakfast were very helpful and always cheerful. Jackie remembered what we were having to drink at breakfast each day when there were a lot of other guests.

Disliked · The lift was out of order and had been for TWO years, the pictures of the property were very misleading on the website. Our room's door frame was broken and the lock was only just holding on "as soon as we had found our room and noticed the lock I did report it straight away and was inform that it would be looked at right away. We believe it was not looked as it was still in the same condition on the morning we left. the cleanness of the room was very poor and great need of attention and updating. We were greeted on our arrival very poorly, that one staff who was on bar seemed very friendly, but the next couple of days he was quite rude to my partner and not very helpful. I asked for a pint of John Smiths bitter and was told it had run out and they would not be replacing it at all, as the season was finishing, the other bitter had run out also, which I find very poor as I found out late there was a coach of guests arriving on Monday for Four days.

Hi. I stayed at the Victoria, it's not bad. It could be a lot better. If your after cheap and cheerful it's not bad. Just don't have your expectations too high about the place. The staff are friendly and helpful, the alcohol prices are abit steep but there is a wetherspoons in town which their pints are really nice
