Mary and Ray are the proprietors of Taunton House which is an elegant house built in the 1860's and is situated in a perfect location to relax. We have been here since June 2014 and are listening to what our guests have been saying and are making changes in response to these suggestions. We now have three superior double en-suite sea view rooms, each with a comfy chair or sofa to sit back and relax. There is a modern flat screen TV with freeview and DVD player and we have a large library of contemporary films on DVDs which can be borrowed. Following comments, we now have a selection of complementary teas and filter coffee and fresh milk. As well as biscuits and chocolate in your room on arrival for that extra little bit of luxury. We have a further five double en-suite rooms to cater for individual needs, all with TV and complementary tea and coffee. Hair dryer and ironing facilities are available on request. Breakfast is served in our bright, cosy breakfast room with a choice of breakfast cereals, fresh fruit juice and locally sourced ingredients for your traditional cooked breakfast. Vegetarian and gluten free options are also available. We have a licensed bar serving a range of beers, wines, spirits, soft drinks, and hot beverages. There is a quiet and relaxing atmosphere in our comfortable guest lounge and we are just a stroll away from all the amenities Great Yarmouth has to offer. Great Yarmouth is a hidden jewel with lots of little gems to discover locally including the beautiful Norfolk Broads and we will do our best to help you discover them and enjoy your stay. In 2015 we are planning more exciting improvements to ensure a totally relaxing experience for you. Mary & Ray wish all our guests in 2015 an enjoyable and relaxing stay.

We absolutely loved staying at Taunton house. Ray and Mary made us feel very welcome and looked after us so well. The B&B was clean tidy and homely. The breakfasts were 10 out of 10. Location fantastic rate and Mary couldn't have been more helpful.

The hosts where incredible and was able to remember each guests name. Hearing them greet everyone by their name was a very personal touch. The hosts where also incredibly friendly and had fantastic recommendations for restaurants or things to do and any conversations we had with them did not feel forced. We chatted for ages about random rubbish which was really lovely. Breakfast was perfect. Eggs cooked to perfection and the breakfast itself was not too small or too big The room was beautiful and perfect size. An impressive queen size bed with an ensuite shower/toilet, sink to brush our teeth, kettle with tea and coffee and a tv. There was also a wardrobe and chest of drawers to store clothing and still enough room to not feel claustrophobic. A nice small touch is the auto air freshener in the toilet as being ensuite, you don't really want to be stinking up the room lol. The entire place was clean and modern and I like the fact the rooms have traditional keys rather than fobs or cards. The B&B is also a 1 minute walk (literally out the front door and walk straight) to the sea front so a fantastic location Overall the experience was extremely pleasant and we would recommend this to any couple who want to spend time together in the beautiful town of Great Yarmouth

Just had a very bad experiance.booked a week here at taunton house, great yarmouth. On arrival, nice couple, stood and chatted for a while and then was shown our Superior sea view room, room 7. Quiet small but seemed OK. Sea view was above roof tops in distance, but there you go. Where superior came into it, I don't know. Small, shabby, tiny sink in bedroom, and a tiny partitioned toilet and shower. Unpacked and went for a walk. Came back to freshen up, no water from sink, tried to flush toilet no water to fill it up again, have to wait half an hour before it can be flushed again.anyone using water in other bedrooms mean you get none, not ideal. Looked around room wallpaper dropping off ceiling, one tiny foot wide wardrobe so having to live out of the case. Superior room, i dont think so. Went to bed and in morning got up, tried to get a wash no water, when it does work, it's so slow, so it never gets hot, had to boil kettle for warm water for a wash, not ideal. Went for breakfast and was 10 minutes early, so had to sit outside whilst owners had a cup of tea, whats all that about? Never had to do this anywhere else had to wait while they were ready. Breakfast OK, mentioned problems of water and was told it was because someone in another room was having a long shower and pressure was not very good. Asked us to look at another room that was even smaller and wait another day, but we weren't prepared to waste another day to wait for a smaller room, ours was small enough as it was, so we had had enough. We wanted to leave and pay for 1 night, thats when it got nasty and was told we were due to pay for the full week contractually. I don't think so, with all the problems with the room, they have broken the contract as far as I was concerned by advertising a superior room which it clearly was not, hardly a sea view and no water. In the end, it must happen a lot because they said we will compromise and charge you 1 extra night for the inconvenience of letting out the room and loss of income, they had the patter off to a tee. So we paid for another night and left and found accommodation elsewhere. Looking back I wish we had just walked out and said sue me, as far as I am concerned they broke the contract with false advertising a sub standard room. So let this be a warning to you all, if you book here stay on the lower floors, you may just get a trickle of water.

On last night of our 4 night stay,we would definitely come back! Our room has everything we need ,like the rest of the hotel it's tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean with a very comfy bed. 2 minutes away from the beach and about 10 to 15 mins walk from the town centre. Our hosts Mary and Ray are very friendly and helpful and create a fun atmosphere at breakfast time .Great hosts, great hotel.

We have just visited the Taunton for a long weekend break to relax and unwind from a very stressful few months of caring for dad who sadly died 4 weeks ago. From the moment we arrived Ray and Mary made us feel so very welcome. The cooked breakfast was amazing and the best poached eggs we have had, coffee tea juice all readily available. The room was alittle small but very clean with ensuite. Ideally located two minutes from the beach and amenities, lots to see and do. Highly recommend the Turkish restaurant miggy miggy, also the empire pub with street food and live bands. Thank you have had a wonderful weekend. Also thank you Ray for sorting the car scratches. Wendy and Roy.

Well dont know where the 9.2 came on booking.com only reason we booked it. Bed was so uncomfortable mattress gone needs replacing. Shower outdated, dust on skirting boards ,woodchip wallpaper ,water pressure in sink terrible. Breakfast was ok but portion size child's size. Owners were Very friendly and helpful but not a place for us. Noticed other guests pensioners maybe it's ok for them but not for anyone else. Tried to try to book other b&b and hotel all booked up so had no choice but to stay here booking.com need to read this partner had no sleep for the 3 night we stayed here

My partner and l visited for a few days last week. We arrived a bit earlier than booked. Mary and Ray let us check in early. We had a sea view, the room was very tidy and clean. However it could have done with a lick of paint it did look a bit tired . Despite this we would visit again

Ray and Mary are great hosts, you are treated as a friend the moment you walk in, this was our second visit. Every where is spotless, rooms not huge but have everything you need and the bed was one of the best ever . Breakfast is cooked to order with quality products. Parking usually available outside and location is great just opposite the pier, around a 10 minute walk to town centre but far enough away to be quiet.

Stayed here for 4 nights as part of a tour for our anniversary. On arrival, received a warm welcome from Mary, with an explanation of facilities, times and local area. We had booked a "Superior" room. The room had been large, but had a toilet & shower built into the space by partition walls. The wash basin was separate on the other side of the room by the bed. Tea & coffee making facilities were good, free wi-fi, television & DVD player were ok. The single narrow wardrobe with 6 hangers was limited, albeit there were 4 coat hanging hooks on the outside of the shower room wall. Overall hanging space for 2 people on a longer stay would be problematic. The view was just a rear courtyard, not a problem for us, but could be for anyone expecting "Superior" room views. Our major problem was the bed.( Sorry not Superior) Neither of us slept properly for 4 nights, as springs could be felt, the bed creaked and the headboard banged against the wall every time you moved. (Not ideal for a younger couple, if you know what I mean !!) The breakfast was great, and Ray & Mary went to great lengths to ensure we had exactly what we requested, and frequently made sure everything was ok. Whilst highlighting our perceived negative points, this was outstripped by Mary & Ray's homely personalities and attention to small detail with their guests, which is manifested by repeat business. The location is excellent, close to the main promenade and beach. Parking was ok, on a residential street, just have to find a space. Please either consider replacement quality mattress, or quality mattress topper, to eliminate the feel of springs. We would come back again as Mary & Ray were excellent hosts, and would have given 5 stars but for the lack of sleep.
