Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just got back from a 2 night break from this hotel, the hotel is very tired and needs a good revamp- the furniture did not match and our wardrobe door was hanging off and there was a loose plug socket down the side of the bed which could be a fire hazard. Breakfast was just ok but the breakfast staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Location was good if you want the sea front and arcades.

There were a few people staying in the hotel that I believe were homeless or waiting for housing but they were pleasant enough.

We only paid £59 for a twin room for 2 nights which included breakfast so I cannot complain - the bedding and bathroom was clean and the cleaners were helpful topping up our coffee.

First impressions at the reception,- a stuffed grizzly bear would not be out of place here. My room was 106 a double bedroom. The shower room was so small you could wash your feet in the shower tray, brush you teeth and have a s... all at the same time.
You had to reverse onto the toilet ! and I frequently banged my head on the narrow glass shelf above the extra small sink which was so small I had to use a cup the fill the kettle. The room door had a large gap all around the frame letting lots of light into the room, also as I turned over in bed a sensor (I can only assume this sensor was outside) would pick up my body movements and switch on the light OUTSIDE my room. This ‘Hotel’ should be named after ‘the Addams family’house.

OK so this isn't a 5* hotel. It is a bit tired round the edges and stuck somewhere in the 1970's - but it is clean and provided an excellent nights sleep with a good breakfast for £30.00 per room. The breakfast choice is ample, and the dining room is lovely. The bedrooms are small, and the shower and toilet was right next to the bed, the TV works, if a little difficult to find the channel guide but it was warm and cosy and provided a good nights sleep.

The staff were really nice they were friendly and very helpful went out of their way to help. Our room was standard double and was a decent size, with on sweet bathroom which was also clean, tea and coffee facilities were in the room and the tea, coffee and bits were topped up each day. The TV was ok on occasions it was a little temperamental but mostly it was ok, WiFi connection was the downfall it was awful no matter which connection we tried. The bed was also a little uncomfortable but that's down to preference as much as anything else. Breakfast was included and again staff service is great the food was okay and choice is reasonable. Quiet hotel little old but in a good location worth what you pay .

When we arrived the manager greeted us and he was friendly throughout our stay, even giving me a couple of wine glasses for our room when I asked. The hotel is very old fashioned but I loved this, it has character and the lift certainly needs to be used at least once when you stay, it'll be an experience that won't be around forever.

The hotel is very clean and our room was spotless. I personally didn't have any issues with the bed, however my partner struggled and found it uncomfortable. As it was cold outside, the hotel was heated well to the point that our room remained really hot until early hours of the morning (even though we turned the radiators off) which made it a little difficult to sleep. I appreciate it is very difficult to keep everyone happy and the hotel was just trying to keep guests warm during the cold winter weather. We had our window open and the little pigeon outside seemed to enjoyed our company.

The staff were so lovely, very friendly, professional and dressed very smartly at breakfast. There was plenty of hot and cold food with piles of toast, butter, jam, marmalade etc you really couldn't complain. We didn't go hungry, it was cooked well and it was really nice.

I did notice an earlier review mentioning this hotel has homeless people staying there who are waiting to be rehoused, I don't know if this is true and I didn't ask because personally, it wouldn't have bothered me either way. At the end of the day, you have no idea how people end up in this situation. If it is true, it certainly didn't make any difference to how much I enjoyed my stay at this hotel.

St George's Hotel is in an ideal location and I loved my stay there, it was very good value for money.

Where to start ! We stayed here 3 years ago before COVID, was acceptable then, breakfast was included., I was looking forward to my big breakfast first morning, they don't do it anymore, even though we paid for it, no adjustment made to the price, or at any point in the last year since we booked it, did they mention. We specifically asked for a bigger room than we had last time, as it was a squeeze for 3 women, and all our 'stuff', the room we were initially given this time would barely house 3 children, we had to walk sideways to get past each other. The person on reception said, we don't have a bigger room, then had a little twiddle on the computer, and miraculously found one! Don't take a lot of luggage if you're above ground floor, as the lift is an ancient, two person sliding door contraption. Not great having to drag bags up to the first floor! The bedding and towels were clean and fresh, the only thing in the whole room that was, although I didn't dare investigate the mattress!! Bathroom was disgusting, floor was pretty grim, make sure you take slippers as you wouldn't want to walk on it barefoot ! The windows are dangerous, if you were to have young children with you, they open right up, at very low level. There was an overwhelming smell of weed the entire time we were there, which actually might have helped slightly., took away the musty smell of the whole place . I think most of the people staying there are local authority housing, no objections to that, but again I think we should have, as paying guests, been informed of this. Sorry to have nothing good to say about this hotel, and it was probably quite fortunate for us that we were inebriated most of the weekend, and perhaps a little high from the weed wafting under the door!

Sadly, although the hotel was relatively clean, it had some serious problems.
The hotel is currently being used by homeless people so it's kitted up with a fridge, microwave etc. Which is handy.
The corridors, and eventually our room (215) reeked of cannabis to the point where I woke up feeling very fuzzy with a headache. I hate the stuff and had our daughter been with us I woukd have left immediately. Tried to find someone at Reception to report it to but no luck.
I tried to open the window for fresh air but it was so old that it was banging in the breeze so I had to shut it.
Our room also had an unwanted light in the ceiling that we had no control over and so we didn't get any darkness at night meaning I didn't sleep well at all.
Furniture is shabby and broken, the vent in the bathroom was clogged with so much dust etc. Doesn't look like it's ever been cleaned.
Just not a pleasant experience and I woukd recommend you find somewhere else to stay.

Not what the pictures show on booking.com!!
Had to change rooms because the first one was disgusting, and had a very bad smell to it.
Other room not much better.
Housekeepers wake you up early to change your towels and empty bins.

The place is emergency housing people due to covid. And the people that are staying here don't care too much about the people PAYING.

It's run down, dirty and smelly. Avoid.

Arrived around 5pm first impressions looked okay went to reception to check in was given key for a room on 3rd floor told there is a lift but it's a old manual lift with doors you shut your self small could nearly swing a cat in .so decided to walk up wife has mobility problems but we managed on arriving in room we found 2 single beds and a double bed ,fridge that smelt , no furniture as pictures on website showed just 1 dinning chair and a small table , on expecting of double bed it dipped in middle so we decided we would use the single beds there not much better but for 1 night we thought it would ok . I decided I need a shower so went to run water , no hot water at all , so we come down to complain .was offered another room on ground floor 101 was ok but not great , it backed on to courtyard where there were people mainly homeless , ex cons and druggies smoking ,drinking until early hours no much sleep . When we booked it was a reasonable price less than £50 for breakfast included for the night once booked we got comfamation of booking saying due to pandemic our kitchen is closed not a problem we thought , Once booked it's to late for a refund the Pandemic was 3 years ago . Now we know why it's closed its a run down hotel used to house the homeless , ex cons and drunks and druggies , bar and restaurant area used as a dumping ground for old bits of furniture and mattresses , and even people's suitcases . Avoid like the plague please read reviews before if you are a intending to stay here .
We read some reviews but though they not great we thought for the price ok , some people exgarate the reviews but now I now they are genuine . Would not recommend to anyone are stay again .

We stayed at this hotel back in May. I tung ahead and asked if a travel cot would fit in the room .I was assured it would and to bring our own travel cot.

We arrived very late reception was dated and the bar area was full of dirty mattresses. We went to our room .the cot only fitted in between the double and single and one side of the double was pushed right up against the wall which meant all the beds you had to crawl from bottom of bed to get in and out.

The bathroom was so dirty.Outside you had people smoking weed.We stayed as it was only one more night. The second night there was drunk people outside our door shouting and falling on the door at 3am waking my 20 mouth son. I rung reception no answer 4 times snd emailed them as scared to leave room.

Eventually the answered the phone to yes I said is this the hotel yes they said. I said there's loud group if people outside my room . He put the phone down on me . I called again no answer The noise went on for a further 10 mins.

I complained to reception in the morning and asked owner to contact me as he was unavailable. I heard nothing I sent 6 further emails no response. Don't go here it's outdated dirty and the owner don't care.
