Hotels owners need to come here to learn what it means to be a pet friendly hotel. Most hotels charge anywhere from £15 - £25 per dog per night, however, here, there is NO charge for bringing your dogs! Most hotels, then tell you that your dog is only allowed in the bedroom and sometimes they are allowed in the bar but very very rarely are they allowed in the restaurant. However, here, dogs are allowed in the restaurant too! So we have had the most fantastic weekend here being able to have our boys with us at all times and getting upgraded to a superior room so the boys had more room was just the icing on the cake!

We have just returned from a 4 night stay at the Speyside and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone planning to stay in Granton on Spey. The check in procedure was easy and its clear that they are well prepared for the covid situation with ample stocks of hand sanitiser located all around the hotel. On checking in, there was a slight problem with the room we were allocated, however this was remedied immediately at reception once it had been pointed out. We ate in the resaurant on two nights and the food was excellent. The breakfast was great with a good selection which was delivered to the table. My main compliment to the Speyside is all the staff, everyone was cheerful and could not do enough to help, including checking which distilleries in the area were open for us to visit. Granton itself is quite small but it was very central to the area allowing us to use it as a good base to travel from.

If you want a large room with a walk-in shower ask for Room 10. In addition to a large bed and sitting area, the bathroom is large enough to hold a dance in! Wifi was good and a Smart TV meant that, for those so inclined, Netflix and other streaming services were accessible.

Not only was the food excellent but, staying there for five nights, we were even asked if there was anything special we would like cooked for dinner. The cheeseboard was particularly memorable for its range and size.

There was a good selection for breakfast. Each day I chose, inter alia, the fruit platter and the selection of fruits provided was different on each morning. The staff were all friendly and helpful and the hotel is a short and easy walk to the centre of Grantown with plenty of parking and no noise.

Good weather was a bonus and we were sorry to leave.

Going by the previous reviews, we were looking forward to our stay at the Speyside Hotel. (I can now see that the hotel is under new management). Upon arrival we checked in and were greeted by the general manager where we felt immediately unwelcome. Dinner was not available at the hotel itself, however there were options along the high street. The room itself had no towels and needed updating, this may be something that the management will do in time, however a hand towel should be supplied. There was however, no towel rails in the bathroom or in the room itself. It seems the space is not being utilised to its full potential which is a shame as the room and bathroom are both large.

The following morning we were awaiting to be seated in the dining room for breakfast, another member of staff had asked the general manager if we could be seated away from animals, to which he replied “who are these people?” which was incredibly rude and unwelcoming! Breakfast was okay, however the order was not correct, despite filling out a tick box order form the previous evening. The manager (who was serving us) did not speak a word throughout the breakfast service, he simply placed things on the table and walked away. There were no ‘your welcome’s uttered when we thanked him for the items brought to the table, in-fact it seemed we were not acknowledged at all (minus asking my husband if he would like another coffee) and we left the hotel with no departing goodbyes or ‘thank you for staying’ etc.

Overall the stay was poor and largely overpriced. I know that we are all facing particularly hard times at the moment, and by the looks of things the general manager had a lot of roles within the hotel which must be hard going! However, even the most outstanding hotels would not get very far without a welcoming, inviting atmosphere and friendly staff! A smile and manners don’t cost a penny and yet can leave the best impression!

Dear KJR_R14 Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review on this site. Please accept my sincere apologies that your recent stay did not live up to your expectations. I took over the running of the Speyside Hotel on 7th August and as you point out we have had a very big challenge. Every day I continue to attempt to recruit staff to support us, but to no avail. I do hope you will return to Grantown and give me the opportunity to show you that I can run a friendly, welcoming hotel. Once again please accept my apologies. Regards Mark Huntley

Myself and my boyfriend had a wonderful stay at the Speyside in October. Rodney and all of his staff couldn't of been more welcoming and friendly throughout our stay, nothing was too much to ask. This hotel is pet friendly so we had our cavapoo Harris with us who enjoyed relaxing in front of the fire in the bar on evenings.

We were given a complimentary room upgrade which was so unexpected but very appreciated. The room was spacious and very clean, equipped with a smart TV which meant we could log into our accounts to watch movies. The bed was large and very comfortable.

There is a large choice for breakfast and the evening meals are absolutely delicious home cooked meals, Rodney was also so kind to cook a selection of Indian dishes one evening and these went down a real treat.

The hotel is in a great location just of the Main Street with plenty of onsite parking.

Overall we had a fantastic stay and will recommend to anybody visiting the area.

Thanks again Rodney & team :-)

My family and I took a trip up North and booked the Speyside hotel for a one night stay. We paid £205 and having paid this we probably set our expecations a bit too high. Our stay was average at best and whilst some of this review will sound like nit picking I'm just being honest.

Arrived at the hotel to find ample parking which was a bonus. Checked in quickly and made our way up to our room. No lift in the hotel so had to carry our luggage up 2 filghts of stairs. Not really an issue for us however might be for others however I'm sure staff could assist if asked. Got to our room and door wasn't locked with door already ajar. The room itself was large with a large bathroom area but very small corner shower cubicle. There were also no towels in the room however management very kindly supplied us with some albeit there is no where to hang them so had no option but to leave them on the bathroom floor. There was no wardrobe in the room and instead there was a small unit that could only hold a small amount of clothes - again didn't effect us to much as we were only there for one night but for people staying for a few nights you will need to improvise. The TV that was mounted on the wall was mounted in a way that you couldn't actually watch it from the two single beds without tilting your neck. Our view was also sadly an eye sore - overlooking several flats with mounds of rubbish dumped on the grassy area. We found a note on one of the tables advising dinner was not available for foreseeable and as such the hotel would allow takeaway deliveries if people preferred. This was a pity as after several hours driving we were looking forward to some food at the hotel however weren't in the mood for a greasy takeaway. Ended up going into town for food (main high street is a hop skip and jump from the hotel) and thankfully found a lovely restaurant with one free table - The Wee Puffin (highly recommended). Returned to the hotel to be greeted by two dogs off their leash roaming the ground floor. Might be cute to some peope however our son is highly allergic to dogs and we made the hotel aware of this before arriving. Got back to our room and the walls must be paper thin as we could hear everything from the room opposite us. On top of that the locals from the houses our room was overlooking decided it would be a good time for a garden party with lots of shouting that kept us awake for a while. The beds themselves were too soft for my liking, I felt like I was on a bouncy castle or water bed every time I turned over.

Made our way downstairs for breakfast. Sadly we were in a mega rush as we had to be out the hotel for 08:45 as we had an activity booked and breakfast was from 8 til 10. Breakfast was fine albeit my scrambled eggs were very runny and gloopy. Rest of the food was nice.

We rarely stay in the same hotel twice so wouldn't say we'd return to the Speyside Hotel. Price we paid didn't really match our expectations.

My friend and I stayed here for one night, on arrival we were immediately met by Rodney who explained the set up and took us to our rooms.
The hotel has been recently refurbished to a high standard, my room was particularly comfortable with a large well fitted bath and shower.
We had a pre dinner drink in the cosy bar and then to the very tasteful Dining Room for a terrific meal.
After we had finished eating, we invited Rodney to join us for a drink and it was fascinating to hear about his previous careers in the hospitality business.
It was a hugely enjoyable and entertaining stay, Rodney and the lovely Amanda are wonderful hosts, informative, helpful and professional.

We went as a group of 12 on 1 February....the staff along with manager, Rodney could not have been more welcoming. Friendly atmosphere, comfortable bar with roaring fire, great selection from bar menu..the food was DELICIOUS and beautifully presented. We had various dishes and each one was cooked to perfection to top class restaurant standard and very reasonably priced. The house red and white were equally delicious and very reasonable priced! What a gem of a find in Grantown .....we will be back!

From the moment we arrived at the Speyside Hotel, Mark and Lucy gave us a true taste of Highland hospitality. Both of them went out of their way and beyond to ensure our trip was as comfortable and accomadating as it possibly could be.

On arrival we instantly had the feeling we had found the beautiful traditional Highland country house hotel/fishing lodge we had been wishing for. After a week of relaxation and exploring the local area and all of the exciting adventures and activities on offer. Not only my wife and I but our five year old son couldn't have been happier with our choice of hotel to bring in the 2022 new year.

As our visit was in December/Jan, a big effort had been made to eloquently decorate the hotel to bring about the Christmas spirit.

It was heart warming to smell the added touch of an open peat fire coming from the Gillie bar, which is cosy place that's luxurious but also very homely and formal making it the ideal place to pop in for a drink at anytime of the day. You have the choice of lounging back on the comfortable sofas next to open fire and its beautiful stone fireplace or sitting at the lovely traditional wooden bar. If you are a whisky lover or any bispoke alcohol for that matter , then you'll enjoy having the added bonus and learning from Lucy's extensive knowledge about Highland malt whiskeys of which there is a very large selection along at the bar with many other local beers and Gins on offer too . Lucy knew in detail about the whole process of whisky making and its history. It really is a special experience.

Again it was a pleasant surprise when we viewed our room. It was clean very comfortable and well decorated and spacious enough to have tables and chairs so you could sit at the window with a book or enjoy the views. Bathroom again perfect.

I think you can see from our review that we had nothing to complain about at all from the Speyside Hotel, and apart from being the perfect place to retreat to, for a Highland experience. Mark and Lucy go so far out of their ways to make sure you're trip is as perfect as possible. We will definitely be returning to Grandtown, just so we can go back to the Speyside Hotel. We are family of keen snowboarders so grandtown being only ten minutes from Aviemore makes it the ideal place to base yourself for a skiing holiday or if planning on visiting in summer the summer then the surrounding area has huge amount of other outdoor activities to offer. This is definitely the best location in Scotland for a family who enjoys the great outdoors, as you really are just far away enough from the busy touristy areas but just a stones throw away, so still able to enjoy all Aviemore has to offer. And actually Grantown is achually nearer to much of the entertainment advertised as in Aviemore , like the Strathspey railway and its steam trains and the Landmark forest adventure park.

Thankyou so much Mark and Lucy for your kindness and making our holiday so special , we hope to visit again soon.
10/10

We had an awesome stay here! A group of 8 men on a whisky trail.
From pre-dinner at the fireplace to a great breakfast the next day everything was perfect!
Mark and the team did a great job. Food was delicious (great daily menu, very well cooked) and beer and wine paired well.
We also had a selection of whisky afterwards.
The rooms are kind of old-fashioned but very cozy, there's a fireplace in the bar area and old leather chairs that could probably tell some stories - in my opinion you can't have a better location when you visit scotland.
If we would have stayed longer we probably could have played a nice round of golf or go hiking with some great views (we spoke with some other guests about it and Mark was also able to help with reservations and tips for good routes).
We finished our visit with a great scottish breakfast and if we ever come back to that area we will definitely be staying here.
