We had high expectations when we booked the place for diner only. They have very nice news articles telling how good the food is. Well… the quality of the food was good and fresh but very basic preparation. We expect a kind of Michelin star but we got boiled vegetables with a beef filet. Nothing fany at all. The price of 60£ is not justified even the place is lovely and the lady serving us try her best to please. There is another lady in the kitchen preparing the food. Maybe we just hit a bad day and usually it’s exceptional. But unfortunately not this time

Supreme comfort with well thought out and accessorised room. Excellent, flavourful locally sourced food (especially the raspberries), very interesting wine list. Very difficult not to over-indulge at breakfast….tasty bacon, aromatic black pudding and possibly the best ‘square sliced’ we’ve had in ages. A very good weekend.

We felt really spoiled for our an anniversary treat. Very comfortable and very welcoming hosts. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend as our stay lived up to all the superlatives in previous reviews. They gave us plenty of ideas for local walks as we prefer just to park up and not drive. Breakfasts and dinners using local produce were very good.

We stayed at Culdearn House multiple times in 2004 when I lived in Edinburgh and returned again in 2010 for our 40th wedding anniversary. William and Sonia are perfect hosts and provide an experience which is second to none. The food that Sonia produces is simply exceptional. Whether its the fish, the beef, the venison, the lamb or whatever, its always perfectly cooked and presented, William does an equally super job in front of house and ensures that you are completely happy. The wine lst is extensive as is his supply of malt whisky. The rooms are luxurious and extremely comfortable. Unfortunately we now live in Cornwall and can't visit as oftwn as we would like.

When we called to book, our hosts were sceptical about whether our children would eat the food available given that they do not provide a children’s menu. We risked it anyway and what a great decision. When we arrived we were met by our hosts and their very cute dog, Purdey. After a pre-dinner drink, we made our way to the dining room where we the only guests. Starters of homemade mackerel pate and melon and salami were very nice and tasty. Main courses were filet steak with a drambuie sauce and roast duck breast with an orange sauce, both served with roast potatoes and veggies - our eleven year old described as “possibly the best meal of my life”! Desserts were very lively as well and all, including the wine, was reasonably priced and the service was friendly and attentive. All in all, would heartily recommend.

My wife surprised me with a lovely three night stay at William and Sonia’s wonderfully welcoming property. The first impressions we gained were of how friendly and attentive William and Sonia were - I am sure many a weary visitor takes kindly to receiving a most hospitable and personal welcome, it certainly put my wife and I fully at ease. The one element that did strike me on entering Culdearn House was how tastefully decorated and furnished the whole property was. From the lounge to the dining room and bedrooms, all the decor and furnishings stated ‘ quality ‘. The seating in the lounge was most relaxing, the beds wonderfully comfortably and the pillows fantastic - my wife and I normally struggle to get comfy pillows, but these were tremendous. As my wife had trips planned away from Grantown on Spey through our three night stay, we could only sample Sonia’s wonderful cooking skills on the first evening. As previous reviewers have commented, it did not disappoint. The evening meal menu ( as is the breakfast menu ) contains only locally sourced produce and it is delicious; Sonia’s fresh raspberry pavlova is the best meringue I have ever tasted. I just wish we had been able to dine on all three evenings of our stay. All in all, my wife and I were highly impressed with the care and attention afforded to us by William and Sonia during our stay and would have no hesitation in recommending it to friends. We do not like large establishments but prefer smaller ‘ boutique’ type hotels where you are not lost in the crowd, and this is what Culdearn House offers you. We hope to return in early October ( Covid permitting! ) to explore more of Speyside and Royal Deeside.

My husband and I spent 3 nights in the hotel and couldn't have been more impressed. Everything is beautifully done and Sonia and William Marshall could not have been more welcoming. A really comfortable bed in a thoughtfully designed room, a lounge and dining room beautifully decorated. All the food is locally sourced and nicely presented. The hotel seems to encompass traditional values with the best of modern standards. If you want to know anything about whisky then William is the person to help you. Both he and Sonia have local knowledge that adds another layer of interest. We loved our stay there. Thank you.

Everything about our recent stay at Culdearn House was first-rate. Our room was very comfortable, tastefully appointed and well equipped. The food was truly delicious, with an imaginative, wide and varied menu. Wine and spirit lists were apparently infinite. And all at a very reasonable price. Sonia and William Marshall are sociable, entertaining and highly attentive hosts, always on hand when required but never intrusive. I think those past guests who have found fault perhaps misunderstand the ethos of Culdearn House. It is a private - repeat, private - hotel and the few house rules that exist simply reflect the norms of respectful society, aimed at ensuring that all guests enjoy a pleasant and undisturbed stay; they should not be confused with the less restrained standards of behaviour tolerated in large, faceless, corporately-owned hotels.

Spent the weekend in the highlands staying at Culdearn House. It is a lovely intimate hotel with high quality period furnishings and decor. Sonia and William the owners are very gracious hosts who provide great guidance whether regarding the wines for dinner or places to visit. During our stay we went to the Highland Games in Braemar attended by the Queen. The tickets for which were arranged for by Sonia and William. Breakfast was of the highest quality. We had Scrambled egg with smoked Salmon and Full Scottish. Dinner was four courses with a number of options. The collops of venison with blackberry and chocolate sauce challenging the Steak with a Drambuie sauce as our favourites. The wine we had, which was recommended, was superb. There was a huge selection of whiskey available although we didn’t try as not being whiskey lovers. On our final night there we had traditional Scottish Ceilidh music and dance. This was a special arranged for another larger group but all residents took part and was great fun. A fantastic weekend.

We just had two marvelous nights at Culdearn House in Grantown on Spey, hosted by Mr and Mrs Mitchell. Gracious welcome, lovely room, coat lounge, wonderful selection of Whisky, and absolutely delicious meals created by Mrs Mitchell. Top class Scottish produce, gracious service . Having Lindsay drive us around the distilleries was interesting and a relaxing way to enjoy the tastings. We will be back for sure
