Booked last minute for one night with no prior knowledge of the establishment. Enjoyed my stay immensely. This modest hotel succeeds in creating a really homely vibe and is staffed throughout with very decent human beings. I loved my room - a spacious double with a full en suite. A modern and vigorous shower was a huge plus point as was the mini fridge - with enough space to chill two large cans of beer! A Nespresso coffee machine and capsules is another nice touch along with a full range of bathroom essentials - I slept well. I observed a family having lunch in the bar …. the food looked fabulous and I regret that I didn’t have the opportunity to test the chef. I will definitely contrive a reason to come back. An excellent experience overall.

On holiday in the town and visited for lunch and drinks. ‘Welcomed’ by a member of staff, I believe called Anne, who snapped our heads off when telling us when food started even though I had said we were in for a drink THEN lunch.
Anne had set up office in the bar and proceeded to also snap the head off another member of staff and phone a supplier placing an order. The chef was also in badmouthing another member of staff. Felt at times we were intruding on a meeting! We stayed as there didn’t appear to be many other options in the town to what we were looking for.
Asked the waiter what the soup of the day was, he asked the chef, who rolled her eyes as though this was the most ridiculous question ever, to then tell him there was no soup. It seemed we had the audacity to expect soup to be available at lunchtime.
Ordered black pudding fritters with a whisky sauce to get haggis fritters with a garlic sauce. When asked, the waiter informed us he should have been told to then pass this on.
The club sandwich was delicious. Never got the chips I ordered. Quite glad though as they were described as ‘hand cut’, they weren’t, they were frozen French fries.
Why still a 3 rating? The food we got was lovely and the surroundings nice. There is definitely potential for this to be a really nice venue to visit if the staff upped their game a bit.

We stayed a couple of nights on the hottest it's been in Scotland for years so although we didn't sleep too well I wouldn't count that against the Garth.
Our room was of an acceptable size and had all the things you expect though a bonus was the coffee machine. Although it faced the main road (room7) we weren't bothered by the traffic.
In terms of food the breakfast was excellent and as I said to our lovely waitress, that's not as common as it should be. Dinner was less successful with an over enthusiastic approach to seasoning that removed any taste of smoked haddock in the eponymous risotto.
The Garth was excellent value for money and one bonus was the flight of three gins and tonic featuring the gin made by the hotel owner. The accompanying tonic was Fevertree which tells its own story.
The one area for improvement - and I'm sure that it will come in time - is that the staff generally need to relax a bit. They were efficient but there was a sense of doing a task rather than engaging naturally with guests.
But as I said we'll happily return!

Stopped by for a meal whilst out for the afternoon. 5.30ish on a Sunday so fancied a roast. The first time in my life I've ever refused to pay for food but it was awful. The beef was cut almost an inch thick and inedible it was so chewy, none of the veg cooked and I'm quite unsure how you manage to boil the flavour out of raw neep. That's a skill at least. Roast potatoes (I think roast) raw. Broccoli was almost edible But I like it raw anyway. Yorkshire pudding was raw and soggy. I saw layer on Facebook there was a new chef so maybe they need rid of him/her.
The place itself was like walking into a timewarp, it was twee and different, with some older worlde art on the walls, I liked the aesthetic. There was a cute bottle of chilled tap water put on the table without having to be requested, that was a nice touch. The waiter was lovely and was tipped anyway, there was none of it his fault. I should also mention that at 5.30 dinner time I would have expected more patrons but there were none in the dining room apart from us which also felt awkward and a little odd for a town on the whiskey trail in July.
I'd try again if I knew for sure they had a competent chef. For less than £30 for 3 courses, we weren't expecting fine dining but edible would have been a bonus.
We ended up at the Speside chipper over the road. £31 for 2 large haddock suppers, curry sauce and 2 bottles of irn bru. Absolute bargain and delicious.

I stayed here after purchasing an itson voucher. On arrival, the car park was a bit of an eye sore and looks as though it could be effectively tended to without too much work. But on the plus side, there’s plenty of parking and it’s off street.
The room we had faced onto the main road but we had no bother from noise at all. Bed was comfy but not being able to open one of the room B windows and the bathroom window, meant excess heat was an issue. The room was clean and had some nice touches.
The location is ideal, handy for all amenities in Grantown-on-Spey. We enjoyed the Sunday market which was just down from the hotel.
The bathroom had a shower and combined bath, not idea to get out of with an often wet floor due to no shower curtain, instead there just being a small panel. Shower worked fine but was very noisy. No fan and the window not opening in the bathroom wasn’t great for heat, moisture etc. Nice complimentary toiletries though.
We had a couple of drinks at the bar which was a decent bar. The main bar man was friendly, efficient and helpful. We also ate at the restaurant on one night and found the male lead waiter to lack people skills. He was also very rude to the young male waiter who was obviously new, hearing how the young waiter was being treated made us feel awkward. Breakfast was great and morning staff were friendly and well organised.
There seems to be an issue with overcharging people when they eat at the restaurant and are also hotel guests. I had to point out we were being overcharged for food from the restaurant on checking out and know this was an issue for others.

We booked our stay and afternoon tea through Itison.
On entering hotel there had been a flood ( due to heavy rain) in the front entrance ( frantic clearing up being carried out). Welcomed with a smile and a bit of deliberation regarding voucher etc but shown to dining room for our afternoon tea ( no gin flight but we weren’t bothered) which was excellent , lovely soup, sandwiches, cakes , scone and copious amounts of tea. I had reminded them 2 days before re: gluten free and it was waiting for me. We gave a substantial tip to our waiter as it was good service and a really tasty afternoon tea. We were allocated room 17 which was clean, spacious if a little dated, bathroom old and thin walls, creaking floorboards. We heard music playing as we entered room but thought nothing of it as we were going out for a walk. On our return (2 hours later) same sound heard, thumping beat. We wondered if we were above the bar, kitchen? I went to reception to complain. Male receptionist stated he had never had a complaint from that room, room 15 yes but not 17. I left it with him to investigate. After another 30 minutes, no change in sound, Husband went down to ask at reception. The same male receptionist stated he had not had time. My Husband stated “ I’ll investigate then” My Husband went to the kitchen and heard loud music being played ( I have it on video) and guess what, receptionist had gone to kitchen at same time as my Husband! Music was turned off for a while then turned on again albeit at a lower volume.
We didn’t get a good sleep, heard doors banging, water , shower in next door room.
Breakfast- only one waitress doing everything. Could hear every conversation she had with Chef. I didn’t get any gluten free bread ( apparently they had none). My Husband didn’t get milk, no butter on table.
There are some good points about this hotel being spoiled by not getting the basics right.
Good points: food was really good, clean room, good array of products , bath , shower gel, sleep spray, chocolates , coffee machine, some friendly, helpful staff.
Bad: overall aesthetics of building need fixed, poor, overflowing guttering, clear car park of “stuff” broken umbrellas, wood, rubbish. Paint the hallways, doors, new carpets, don’t allow dogs!, new bathrooms, paint bedrooms, new windows that open properly, clean window frames. Do not allow music to be played in the kitchen ( sound reverberates to guest bedrooms), heating didn’t work, no Wi-Fi, There is no need for online check-in ( you haven’t got the basics right). Staff need to be reminded that they can be heard ( discussing guests) in the dining room.
It is such a shame. I understand that the hotel industry is in need of business but when paying customers are treated in this way they tend not to return.

We stopped off here for Sunday lunch and had a wonderful visit. We chose to dine outside in the beer garden as we had a dog with us and the weather was good. The staff were very friendly and attentive (especially Sheila who was very kind to the dog with treats). The food was served quickly, tasted superb and was very reasonably priced (£20 pp for 2 courses). Will definitely be stopping off again next time we are passing through.

What an amazing visit we had to the hotel, on arrival the staff were so friendly and welcoming, the room was nice and cosy with all the amenities you need for a stay, my hands-on was pleased to have Netflix on the TV. We ate the evening meal we ate the open-fire dinner was great with good options for gluten-free celiac disease. Also having a few cocktails service again was great. A great night's sleep and breakfast again was great. We visited the reindeer’s at Cairgorm woodlands which my grandson loved - overall an amazing journey.

3 night stay and from check in to check out really enjoyed our stay , staff at all levels could not do enough very pleasant & polite. Room was clean and if you wanted to be critical some areas require paint job , out side building would look nicer after new paint job but owners main concern is keeping inside clean & feel they are doing a good job . Restaurant menu not to my taste found all day menu on our last night had better selection of food . Big thanks to Kirsty at check in made our stay very pleasant.
Breakfast time again sorry never got lady’s name but she was very friendly & polite & helped ask receptionist to move us to other room due to summer heat wave our room had small window.
Pictures of good to follow done meals better than others but overall chef are really talented
Small town good golf courses near by and local shops to keep wife happy.

Think this hotel has tried hard to “ upgrade” it’s amenities, but is very “ tired” Ground floor room was stifling hot with no AC and ability to open windows to the street. Restaurant food was “ marginal” Bar staff ,however, were very helpful. Grantown on Spey would not make our itinerary on any future visit to Scotland.
