Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Charming hotel in a very charming town. Lovely room overlooking the bay, very comfortable & clean. We were on a travelzoo deal which was great value & included a cream tea on arrival, 3 course dinner and delicious breakfast. I would love to come again

Hotel's Favourite
The Grange is a very nice hotel. All of the staff that we spoke to were friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is a large traditional lakeland building, set back from the road in a wooded area overlooking the bay - very scenic. There is seating outside for enjoying a drink in warm weather and also some sheltered seating within the grounds which is lit up at night (sort of little "band stands" but you have to look for them, easy to miss if you don't know they are there. It is a short walk into Grange over Sands, perhaps 10-15 mins, and you can go directly along the road and public gardens/reserve or via the promenade - a nice walk. We had a small problem with our room, which was otherwise a very nice room, and this was quickly rectified, which to me is key - issues can sometimes arise in any situation, what is important is the resolution and in this case we were very happy with the outcome. The location is great for exploring the southern lakes and coast - we has a lovely walk around Tarn Hows - a beautiful small lake just north of Coniston. I didnt use the Spa but I believe there is a small pool/Jacuzi. In summary, a very nice hotel, great staff, great location. Definitely on my list for a return visit.

The hotel itself is beautiful. The lady on reception is new but she is incredibly helpful and very funny! Breakfast was cooked to perfection and overall we had a nice stay. Our room was stunning, the bed incredibly comfortable and all very clean. We opted for late check out at £10 which gave us an extra hour in our room after a sunrise hike. However.. we booked it for the leisure suite. The pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi in particular. The pool was cold. The jacuzzi was cold. The sauna was out of order. The steam room sat only a couple of people so unless you wanted to soak in cold water it was a waste of time. Given the price we paid for the room there are much better hotels just a stones throw away then can offer all of the above and fabulous leisure facilities. Given that we travel a lot and visit the lakes monthly we like to try and find a hotel and stick to it. Disappointed to say we won’t be using the grange when we return to this particular area next month as the leisure facilities are really a big factor for us.

We've just returned from our third stay at The Grange Hotel. We really loved our visit. I was delighted with the room that we were allocated. We had a beautiful 'Sitting Room' and a bedroom with a huge Four Poster Bed, with lovely ensuite - a roll top bath tub, with huge separate shower etc. There was a TV in both rooms, with bathrobes and slippers provided. Our views were of the sands/sea, to the left, with the town to the right The weather was awfully rainy but it didn't matter to us - coming back to our lovely room and the friendly staff team. The decor in the hotel is just how I like it. Traditional and sumptuous! The wonderful breakfast is my favourite part of the experience. There is just so much to choose from and we chose plenty. I love to help myself to the fruit compotes, mixed berries etc, with a huge dollop of Greek yoghurt. There is also a Continental selection, then the Full English selection. The scrambled eggs are deliciously creamy and rich (unlike some hotels with their powdered egg) The mushrooms, the hash brown, the beans, the tomatoes, the bacon and sausage (if you want them). The Grange also offers a much bigger option of extras from the kitchen. Also fresh fruit and pastries - practically anything that makes the breakfast experience a complete delight. The staff are so accommodating, it's such a pleasure to be there. Then there's the Leisure centre, the bar... lunch if you like, afternoon tea or just sandwiches. I really have to complement the first class chef for the excellent menu he works from at dinner time. I could go on indefinitely about the presentation of his delicious and superb quality dishes. I felt totally relaxed the whole time and can't praise our experience enough. We felt truly pampered and enjoyed every minute. This is how all hotel experiences should be.

Had an amazing time! The room/facilites were great and it was very easy to travel around the lake district from the hotel by car. The staff were friendly and helpful and made me and my partner feel very welcome. Would recommend to anyone looking to enjoy a long weekend at the lakes.
