The Grange is a very nice hotel. All of the staff that we spoke to were friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is a large traditional lakeland building, set back from the road in a wooded area overlooking the bay - very scenic. There is seating outside for enjoying a drink in warm weather and also some sheltered seating within the grounds which is lit up at night (sort of little "band stands" but you have to look for them, easy to miss if you don't know they are there. It is a short walk into Grange over Sands, perhaps 10-15 mins, and you can go directly along the road and public gardens/reserve or via the promenade - a nice walk. We had a small problem with our room, which was otherwise a very nice room, and this was quickly rectified, which to me is key - issues can sometimes arise in any situation, what is important is the resolution and in this case we were very happy with the outcome. The location is great for exploring the southern lakes and coast - we has a lovely walk around Tarn Hows - a beautiful small lake just north of Coniston. I didnt use the Spa but I believe there is a small pool/Jacuzi.

In summary, a very nice hotel, great staff, great location. Definitely on my list for a return visit.

Just had a one night stay at the Grange. First impressions when we arrived were that the hotel is in a great location , it was very impressive from the outside , really well maintained inside and the safety policy made you feel very safe. We had an Atrium room which was exceptional value , the room felt very luxurious, the only downside from our perspective was it was naturally quite warm with not having windows to let some fresh air in. Everything you needed was in the room / bathroom except a hairdryer (which you may be able to request from reception ?).
Breakfast was exceptionally well presented , very efficient and the food was lovely. All staff throughout the hotel were very pleasant and helpful.
On our first to Grange Over Sands we were very pleasantly surprised at what a good place it was to visit for a short break and would recommend the Grange Hotel to anyone who wanted to do similar.

Dear Martyn N Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. We are glad that your first impressions were immediately positive and that you felt safe and comfortable with our enhanced protocols and revised procedures. Thank you for your appreciation of our staff. They will be delighted that they made a difference to your stay. Sorry for the missing hairdryer - they are supplied automatically in rooms and we can generally rustle up spares when they are needed. So pleased to hear that you have enjoyed your time here in Grange-over-Sands. We are situated very well to access the main historic and scenic spots of The Lake District and also the areas of natural beauty around Morecambe Bay. There are many walks, the-shops, parks, cafes to browse around and generally relax. We look forward to seeing you again in the near future. Warm regards Grange Hotel Team

This hotel is situated in the beautiful South Lakes town of Grange over Sands which is both peaceful and picturesque. From check-in to check-out, everything about our weekend away was immaculate.

The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Even though everyone was wearing face masks, you knew you were being greeted with a smile. On the subject of Covid, the whole hotel felt safe and clean with plenty of space between tables and all the expected hand sanitation and room deep cleaning (there is a fogging process every Monday through the whole hotel).

We stayed in the Sable D'or suite. If you get chance to, book this room. It is huge, with sweeping views over the town and the bay, 2 baths (one a jacuzzi) and a large sumptuous 4 poster bed.

Our dining experience matched the quality of the room. The food was incredible and we had great wine to accompany it. Beautifully presented and faultless in flavour, I would eat there even if not staying as guest.

Thank you for a wonderful break from the madness of 2020. We will be back.

Dear 786andyd Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. Such a lovely review and a greta boost for our staff here who have been working their socks off over this very busy season! Great to hear that you enjoyed the local area of Grange-over-Sands. As you say it is the perfect spot for a relaxing and beautiful weekend away, with some stunning walks and places to meander around. We have been working very hard on making our eyes extra twinkly so that guests do know we are smiling behind our masks. Our staff will be delighted that they made a difference to your stay! The Sable D'Or suite is perfect for a luxury stay and the views are stunning. I hope you weren't too ton over your choice of bath and you were snug in your sumptuous four poster. It is reassuring to hear that your felt safe and relaxed with our enhanced protocols and procedures. There is a video on our website which shows the whole" fogging" process and its benefits. Mediclean come along on a monthly basis and refogg us - one of our enhanced protocols and an interesting one to see. We look forward to seeing you again. Warm regards Grange Hotel Team

Planned a year in advance for a family wedding I paid £50 deposit.
Due to covid it obviously had reduced number which the Grange catered very well for.
My only concern was as a family of four we were supposed to be staying in a "family suite" which was brilliant for us as my two girls love a comfy bed.
After we checked in to our room i thought something could've been wrong as the family suite was a superior room with two fold up beds in. As though the sofa had been removed to accommodate the children.
For £200 a night I'd expect my children to have an actual bed.
This was even at reduced wedding rate so if you're staying as a family don't expect your children to be staying in an actual bed.
Moving on. The wedding service was brilliant it was outside luckily had a dry spell of weather. The staff were all organised and accommodating. The food was nice having the ribeye beef with Yorkshire puddings and veg. (More gravy needed)
The evening reception was brilliant and again staff were accomodating and helpful. Evening supper consisted of basin buns and cheese toasties. Great idea.!!
It was until the morning (more fool me) that I actually noticed one or two problems with the room. The key hole had a sticker over saying "this room has been deep cleaned". Which due to the current circumstances is a great idea. When I went to bed I found a huge cobweb hanging from the bed light and upon showering the next morning I found the shower was coming away from the wall And what could only be pubic hair in the base of the shower.
In hindsight I wish I inspected my room upon check in as I'm sure if I flagged any problems up with the staff they'd have sorted it as I say, they were very accommodating.

Dear samgD3963QJ Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. Great to hear that your family celebration went well. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the food and service at the wedding celebrations and that you felt it was well organised. Our family rooms with two double beds are standard category rooms and the provision of Z beds in one of our Superior Doubles was to enable you and your family to be accommodated in an upgraded room. We are sorry to hear of your disappointment over this. I will pass on your feedback abut your room. As you say we are always keen to address any guest concerns immediately. Kind regards Grange Hotel Team

We booked this night away as a birthday treat. The hotel it’s self and the rooms/bathrooms are very clean and well looked after but the decor is dated. We stayed in a sea view room for £250 a night.
Hey Our bed was a large gold painted French style four poster bed but it did not need the tired throw over the top of the crisp white sheets. If this was removed it would make the room look a lot more fresh and less dated.
There is a piece of fabric attached to the top of the bed which was thick with dust and doesn’t need to be there. It just collects dust and makes the bed look old tacky. I love old French furniture over modern any day but the fabric across the top of the bed had no need and makes it look awful.
The curtains also didn’t need the Pelmets at the top. These were extremely busy and if these were simply removed they would make such a difference. Again extremely clean room and bathroom. The housekeeping obviously do a very good job.
We booked this stay as there is a pool/spa. When we looked at the pool area it was tiny and looked like it needed some renovation. The sauna/steam was closed due to Covid. But it did state on the website that the sauna was open but steam was closed but this wasn’t the case.
When we checked in we were told that our room was ready which was great but the restaurant was fully booked for the night so we could dine there unless we ate in the lounge area which I guess sold sandwiches and toasties. We didn’t check as we ate out instead.
The town is 5 mins walk from the Hotel and the chocolate cafe/ shop is to die for! Highly recommend.
We had a great nights sleep and the bed was comfortable and no noise at all.
Overall I don’t think I would recommend this hotel or stay again. But it wasn’t all bad.
I think it is way over priced for what it is. We have stayed in many hotels which were a lot luxurious than this for the same price or cheaper.

Hope this recommendation helps

Dear CharlotteB666OLD Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. We are pleased to hear that you were impressed with the cleanliness of the room and bathroom and thank you for your compliments to our housekeeping team - I will pass them on. Also good to read that you were comfortable, had a great night's sleep in there and were cocooned in quietness. Our restaurant is heavily booked at the moment and prior reservation is advisable. Our lounge bar has a traditional menu with choices such as Fish & Chips, Steak & Ale Pie, Kenyan chicken or vegetable curry, to name a few dishes, as well as a range of grills and lighter dishes and platters. it also has access to the same delicious dessert menu! Grange-Over-Sands has a range of small independent shops with some fabulous cafes and tea-rooms. Regards Grange Hotel Team

I was bought this trip by my husband as a anniversary present. Due to Covid lockdowns in the UK and in the Middle East where I normally reside, we have been separated in two different countries since March 2020. I was so looking forward to coming to the Grange, as we spent many breaks there prior to us moving abroad and my husband thought it a sentimental

The hotel is beautiful and steeped in history, and in an ideal location as a gateway to the Lakes. The staff are hardworking and on the whole friendly and helpful, and I found the communal areas clean and tidy. My upgraded room/suite smelled freshly cleaned and with a very comfortable bed. There was a kettle, teas, coffee and water supplies in the room. Bathrobes were provided along with toiletries in the bathroom and a hairdryer. I would have liked an iron in the room, but I managed to get along without one and so did not ask if one was available on request which might have been the case. I also felt confident that Covid measures were being adhered to by the majority of staff.

On the downside, for the two nights I was there, the toilet ran and filled constantly and very loudly. I reported it after the first night, leaving a note and my business card at the unoccupied reception before going out for the day. By the second night it was all I could hear, and a member of the night staff came up to look at it but it couldn't be fixed.

Regarding eating at the hotel, on my first night I decided to eat in the restaurant, taking advantage of the 'Eat Out' scheme. The food was quite mediocre for the price and description, but in some ways the decor and lovely staff made up for this. There was a couple in the dining room making a loud and animated fuss about their food, and this ruined the mood somewhat, although the staff handled the situation quite well. 0n the second night, I decided to eat in the bar, and ordered a steak pie. The pie that arrived was cheese, but with so little filling that I had to ask what it was. I was offered a replacement, but didn't receive what I asked for. I then ordered dessert and coffee, the dessert arriving over an hour later, and the coffee an hour after that. I had stayed in the bar area for so long due to the noise from the toilet in my room.

Breakfast was well handled with social distancing measures in place, however again the cooked food was not very good, but otherwise a good choice of food on offer.

All in all not an unpleasant stay, other than everything being very rushed and disorganised. The village of Grange holds great memories for us from years ago, and I am hoping to make another trip up there in the next month. Thank you.

We are well situated just south of The Lake District, near enough to reach the historic and scenic places of interest in The Lake District while far enough removed to avoid the hustle bustle of the busy tourist spots. Thank you also for your appreciative comments abut our staff. They will be delighted to hear that they made a difference to your stay. I know we are in the middle of a serious pandemic and there are lots of guidelines to adhere to, but that doesn't mean you have to compromise on service which I believe this hotel does. I could go on for a long time about issues but to summarise we did not get the room booked which was a front facing room with walk in shower. We got a very small front facing room but no walk in shower, which was essential as I was travelling with my Mum who is not able bodied enough to get into a bath with shower overhead. Our room was changed but the only room apparently available was a back room over looking trees and an electricity pylon. We did receive a reduction but there must have been another suitable room. The website states 5 course table d' hote menu in a candlelit restaurant with extensive wine list (5 pages on the website). The menu was the same every night no candlelight and the wine list was a very small selection on the back of the menu. We stayed 3 nights and dined in so struggled for choice as we had booked dinner, bed and breakfast. Two nights the wine we choose was not available. The breakfast is average, toast served on a plate, not in a toast rack cut into halves as in most hotels. It seemed the staff were running about all over the place, doing lots of different roles and I believe this compromised the service. There is no daily maid service you have to ask if you need towels changing etc. It is a nicely positioned hotel with great gardens but it does not do what it says on the tin and the service lets it down greatly.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. We were pleased to read that you enjoyed the location of our historic, Victorian hotel and the landscaped gardens. Sorry to hear that your stay did not live up to your expectations and apologise for the lack of walk in shower in your original room. I am glad we were able to find you another room, with an appropriate rate alteration, despite the hotel being heavily booked that night and assure you that had another room been available we would have allocated it immediately. Rooms are not being currently serviced on a daily basis, although we are replenishing hospitality tray items, toiletries, towels, etc. on guest request and we are only running one menu in Carriages Restaurant. We are keen to inform guests prior to arrival of these changes and others and have posted information about our changed procedures on our website and included it in the pre-arrival email we send out to guests. We offer an alternative menu in our Lounge Bar which includes more traditional fare and a range of lighter platters. Kind regards Grange Hotel Team

This was my first visit to The Grange and it certainly didn't dissapoint. Upon arrival we were greeted at reception and were escorted to the courtyard to enjoy a beautiful fresh afternoon tea with a glass of Prosecco (Social distancing applied at all times). The lunch was 3 tier comprising of the usual fare, smoked salmon, coronation chicken, sumptious sweets and scones with clotted cream. Following this we collected our key and made our way to the suite. We arrived at the double doors of the suite and were in awe of the size and furnishing of the suite, it was simply stunning, with panoramic views across Grange Over Sands, as well as the private balcony overlooking a mature woodland. If you want romance, this is the place to come. After a lovely afternoon spent wandering the local area and taking in the sights we made our way back to the hotel (which is minutes away from the promenade and village centre) and freshened up for dinner. We'd booked the 5 course set menu and dined within the Carriages Restaurant. The food was beautifully presented, exceptionally well cooked and full of flavour, I simply cannot fault any element of this and it was a pleasure to dine in such beautiful surroundings. The staff were highly attentive at all times and took all required precautions whilst serving or attending to guests. The hotel has taken all precautionary measures to ensure the guests safety at all times and you feel very safe being here in this little secluded paradise. If you get the opportunity I would highly recommend this hotel and the suites in particular, great value for money, great service, beautiful surroundings, great location, exceptional food, what more could you possibly want. Thank you for a wonderful stay, we cannot wait to return.

We've just returned from a lovely overnight stay at the Grange Hotel. I'd stayed there many years ago and expected to find it extremely dated and in need of some tlc but was pleasantly surprised at how tidy and welcoming the main rooms are on the ground floor - all look to be newly decorated/freshly painted. The initial bedroom we were allocated had an extremely noisy bathroom fan and noisy floor boards but we were offered an alternative without quibble and were pleased with the second room offered. The chintzy canopies above the beds are a bit dated but are in tune with the age and character of the building.
We could see that the hotel has lovely rooms suitable for weddings and functions but it wasn't busy whilst we were there. I can imagine it could get extremely noisy when the weddings take place as some of the rooms are on the same level as the function rooms.
Dinner in the restaurant was excellent last night - everything arrived hot and the menu was creative and food delicious.

Arrived approx 12:30. Asked if we could check in early and was advised room not available until 2:00pm. So as it was a lovely sunny day we ordered a drink and took bar menu to the garden which was at first sight unsightly. Tables not cleared, taking up to two hrs plus. A wedding the day before, it was clear items on the floor, (mask, corks, tissues, tobacco pouches discarded). Many people had to sit at dirty tables and having drinks.
A light lunch was ordered, sandwich and chips. After an hr we still not received our food, despite others being served theirs after they ordered after us.
The lone staff member was serving the bar and food and trying to clear tables was run off her feet, still remained polite and professional, she was clearly hindered by not enough additional staff to support her. We enquires where our food order was and she enquired and returned not sure what we ordered, ( meaning the kitchen lost our order). So we cancelled and said we would just wait to check in. The lady was so apologetic.
At around 1:50 we tried to check in again, only to be informed they are cleaning the room and so apologised and said around a 20 minute wait and offered a complimentary drink on the house for the delay and we would be advised when the room was available. Many other people arrived and were able to check in straight away.
At 2:35 we went back to the desk and again they had to check if the room was available. Finally the key was ready but we were not informed until we went back to the desk.
Upon entering the “Deep cleaned room” we were extremely unhappy and as cleaning would not take place during our stay it was little point in complaining to the front desk.
We found that maintenance issues are clearly not reported by cleaning staff.
We found a toilet seat lose and left by cleaners in such a way was a health n safety issue. Dust behind the sink and bath on the tiles. The shower doors have come away from the lower rail track. Blown bulb in canopy lighting. The carpet was left with hairs, items and dust, clearly shows better equipment or staff training required as this was definitely NOT a deep clean.
Overall the staff were very good but clearly management had not catered for the volume of customers following what could have been A very busy previous day as a wedding venue took place.
I cannot believe at 18:15 I received an email to speed up check in, some four hours after I had already checked in.
Breakfast was very well executed with timing and food was lovely.
Look forward to the management response!!

You are correct in that we are not servicing rooms daily, however we are able to make special arrangements in light of different circumstances. Our kitchen team will be pleased to hear that your breakfast experience was favourable and that you enjoyed the food. Again, apologies that your expectations were not met. Please contact us directly in order to discuss your stay and we would hope that you might think about revisiting our hotel to enjoy a better experience. Regards

Please can you advise if there is a dress code for your restaurant? Many Thanks
Answer from Grange Hotel
Grange-over-Sands, United Kingdom
Smart casual is perfect. People dress differently depending on the occasion they are celebrating. We do advise booking before 5pm in our in room information. Occasionally we do get booked up earlier. It depends on how many people reserve before they arrive or earlier on in the day. If you have a special occasion or you want to guarantee a table at the time you wish, It is also possible to book in advance of your stay by telephone on 015395 33666 or by emailing us through our website. We advertise this with a 10% discount for early booking on our website along with sample menus. The menus on the day you dine with us may differ. We also offer you the opportunity to reserve a table at the same time as making your room booking, you can always confirm the exact time on arrival. Regards Grange Hotel Team
