We went in on Friday 14th Feb (Valentines night), they were not serving bar food (even though there were signs saying they did), we accepted this and booked a table for the following night. We went on the Saturday night to find there was no booking and no reserved table, we found our own table and ordered food. The food was lovely and the bar staff friendly, apologetic and attentive. The biggest shock was a guy sat in the main lounge in his high viz weatherproof work clothes that were completely covered in mud. No staff member told him it was inappropriate or asked him to move. People, in their best clothes, sit in this area and don’t expect to have their clothes ruined.

Saw the winter getaway offer through Wowcher for £99. After doing some light research on the Commodore I noticed the hotel were offering the same deal for £89!

I opted for the winter getaway which consisted of a 1 night stay, a welcome drink each, 3 course meal and breakfast.

My partner and I arrived shortly after 4pm and parked just in front of the hotel which cost £7.50 until 12 midday (on the day of leaving).

We approached the bar and were greeted by a very smiley chappy, who quickly checked us in and showed us to our room.

The room and was very basic but you get what you pay for. Both could have been a bit cleaner.

We went down to the bar around 6pm and were given menus for our evening meal.

I ordered the Commodore terrine, the Admiral chicken burger and the Bailey’s cheesecake.

The burger was probably one of the best burgers I’ve ever had!

My partner had the garlic flatbread, the fillet steak and the sticky toffee pudding. Although my burger was delicious, I was rather jealous when I saw the steak arrive!

On the morning of departure we went through to the upstairs dining area which was very quiet and were served by a friendly lady who took our breakfast order and brought our drinks to us.

We both had the full English cooked breakfast which was lovely. Bacon cooked to perfection - thanks Ollie!

The view from our room was amazing, and incredible to wake up to on a nice autumn morning overlooking the bay.

Thank you for an enjoyable time! :-)

A curates egg of a pub

It’s in a pleasant setting with a beer garden and serves a good selection of beers and basic pub grub. The service is pretty good and quite friendly.

Unfortunately there’s music playing quite loud inside and quite specifically rap/ house music . It’s not the usual background classics and it’s beat is overpowering.

The worst thing though is that it’s not a clean pub and maybe it’s short staffed but needs a regular member of staff to keep it cleaner and more hygienic.

So goods and bads making it average. Just needs some effort that’s all to turn it into a very good pub.

There’s not much competition from the few other pubs in the Granger Over Sands central area.

Room Tip: Avoid sitting inside as the music is oppressive.

It would be fair to say that if you can avoid staying here......please do so!

The Commodore Inn is incredibly tired and in need of renovation. When paying £88 for a room you expect more than it being unclean, having a tiny bathroom and a lumpy mattress. The shower curtain (see photograph) was disgusting & getting any hot water from the shower proved impossible. When raising this with the manager the excuse provided was the age of the pipework. I’m afraid that isn’t good enough & they need to get this resolved as this Inn is putting profits ahead of customer satisfaction & it isn’t acceptable.

We ate in the restaurant and whilst the food was above average, the staff working in the bar & restaurant are totally unmotivated. On the occasion we asked for salt & vinegar we got a skyward glance from the waiter. Again.....not really acceptable.

Breakfast in the morning followed a similar theme. Waiting for a long period of time for our tea/coffee whilst the waiter ran around on his own whilst hoovering the main bar carpet! We got the impression he probably cooked our breakfast too as there was a severe lack of staff. All in all, another experience to forget.

If you really have to stay here then do so. However, you’d be better off finding somewhere else......like a bench on the promenade!

Quite frankly the worst service I have experienced in my life!

Sit down and grab a brew, this is going to be a long one.

We were a group of friends who have booked a table for 7.30. When we arrived, they told us that they’d double booked our table. No worries, it was a warm evening so we were happy to find a table outside.

We ordered 3 starters to share and a main each. The first starter arrived, followed 30 minutes later by the next two. We then sat for a further hour to wait for the first of the meals to arrive. They slowly arrived in drips and drabs over the following 20 minutes whilst we were sat with plates in front of us but no cutlery or condiments. By the time these had arrived, the menfolk had already eaten their pizzas with their hands and the rest of us were sat with stone cold food in front of us. All of us except one, who had yet to receive her burger. This arrived after everyone had tucked into, and finished, the rather less than appealing cold food.

Now onto the food. All meals were to be served with ‘hand cut, chunky chips’. What actually arrived was frozen french fries, the side salad consisted of a handful of Florette Crispy Salad with a couple of tiny fragments of yellow pepper and no dressing whatsoever. The scampi was served with no tartare sauce or lemon wedge. The BBQ burger had a slice of cheese but no sauce (BBQ or otherwise) on it.

A family sat behind us had distressed and crying children, having sat for 3 hours waiting for their food to arrive.

I must stress at this point that the staff were clearly run ragged and I assume that chaos reigned in the kitchen too. This was simply a case of appalling management, understaffed and under extreme pressure. At no point did the manager come out to apologise to diners until we specifically asked to see him at around 10.30.

Never again!

We paid for a room for two nights, and stayed in The Porthole. Firstly, the shower in the room went hot, cold, hot, cold and leaked through the shower curtain even when turning it towards the wall (which led to water soaking the floor and going under the door into the room). Apparently this room had undergone refurbishment but there were no apparent signs. We paid for breakfast for the two days, and on the first day we received a breakfast which quite clearly had last nights food on. Garlic oily mushrooms for breakfast? Massively overpowered the whole breakfast. The orange juice quite clearly from concentrate, with bits of powder. Tea cups and milk jug dirty. The only edible food was the sausage and black pudding. The second day, there were no signs on the table like the day precious, stating it was reserved for us, so we searched for ten minutes for a member of staff with none to be found. We the decided to take a trip next door to the Coffee Pot Cafe, and though it was slightly more expensive than the £17+ breakfast at The Commodore, it was much better, bigger and REAL food. Would highly recommend the Coffee Pot Cafe for food.

Would not recommend The Commodore unfortunately, not even for drinks as it came to £23 for four drinks.

Stayed overnight with my wife, the room had a nice view over the estuary, and had some nice wallpaper behind the bed, but that doesn't make up for the failings. The room needed a good clean, a hoover would be a good accessory for the cleaner. The tea and coffee condiments were not either in a sealed container and an opened marvel skimmed milk tub was left to use, no thank you. A dove body wash was left on top of the shower by a previous guest, the room required a damn good clean. It's such a shame as this hotel could very very good.
Outside the room an empty glass was left in the hallway.
I suspect there is insufficient staff to look after this inn.
After waiting nearly an hour and a half for a meal at dinner, we passed on staying for breakfast.
Things need to improve before I return.

We stayed here for one night on our way back from driving the NC500. After being away and staying in some lovely hotels in the last week this is the first time I have not felt COVID safe. The room was adequate but felt unclean. The shower was just a trickle of water and the shower curtain had seen better days. We left early in the morning as wanted to get away as quickly as possible and no one was around for us to check out. We have therefore been charged a random amount on our credit card for food and drink without any breakdown of what we had (we had emailed to say we would call and pay o er the phone).
This place certainly doesn’t warrant charging £99 a night. It’s little more than a pub with quite a rowdy and loud clientele! Do not go here if you want a quiet nights sleep.

Unfortunately we didn’t look on here before we booked and ate here. Just like lots of the other reviews we agree that the food was disappointing and overpriced! The view from the balcony was great and the beer was cold which is perfect for a hot summers day. I went to the toilets upstairs and they were in need of a good clean! There was lots of dead flies on the window ledge, the flusher didn’t work properly, the toilets smell and the overall appearance was grotty. I wish I would of gone into the toilets before ordering as this mirrored the food we received. We ordered a fish sharing dish and some stuffed mushrooms to share for our starter. The fish dish was a mix of prawns, calamari and whitebait. It consisted of 3 tiny overcooked flavourless prawns, 2 pieces of calamari and 8 pieces of whitebait. The only way we could eat it was by drowning the ‘fish’ in sauce. The ‘stuffed’ mushrooms were 2 mushrooms with a bit of grated cheese on top, which didn't taste great. The mushrooms had clearly been kept in a warmer for a considerable amount of time. I ordered the chicken schnitzel, it was ok and not worth £16. My boyfriend ordered the fish burger, again, burger ok, the dirty fries were undercooked fries with some grated melted cheese and a massive dollop of mayo. We left most of our food. Overall beer and views great, food very bad and over priced. We left feeling so disappointed that we have just set up this account to write this review. We are now going to the Chinese. Thanks.

Visited on the 19th feb 2020 arrived at 7pm a family meal for the last night of our holiday. Ordered within 15 mins of arriving as had young children and older ones who required to eat within that hour as had diabetes. However we waited an hour and a half for our meals the steak pies came out burned and we all had our meals delivered to the table at different times to couldn't eat together it was incredibly disappointing experience. Not to mention the fact there was no compensation or apology. Our cutlery ect wasn't even given to us until the food had already been send out the waiter stating these should have been given to you before now. What makes it even more unreal is we were the only ones in the bar having food. The one thing I can say positive is the staff were very friendly petting dogs ect shame they couldn't have shown they were sorry about the inconvenience they just smiling and talking like this was normal service for them. I couldn't recommend unfortunately!!!
