Had a lovely room with great attention from all of the staff. Bathroom newly refurbed. Great breakfast. Total success for our visit.
Excellent value for money for room, food and drink and the bar staff should get a special thanks, very pleasant, inclusive, communicative and friendly, we felt like locals !
Wish we were in Fowey longer.

We stayed over for 1 night in a nice family room with double bed and bunk beds for kids. Good for family of 4.
Just a continental breakfast available which was ok.
Clean and comfortable. Limited parking only 3 spaces first come basis. Parking is available just down the road which was cheap and only 200 yards away on the harbour.
Fowey was ok had a nice harbour but could only find 1 place to have food and drink. Couple of little shops but would not want to stay much longer or would have to keep travelling to Penzance for food.

A 500 year old pub right in the heart of beautiful Fowey. Expect old rooms and uneven floor boards. Its a pub, so there will be noise until past closing time....and expect a warm welcome. The place ticked all the boxes for authenticity and quirkiness. The pub had a inviting atmosphere and we loved chatting to locals and visitors alike. The Seafood platter (with a bowl of chips) was superb and the breakfast was the best of three places we stayed in Cornwall. The areas for improvement were relatively easy... replace the cheap mattress and paint over the shower mould with specialist paint. With a little more TLC it would be a solid 5 in my books.

Good points first....the young girls behind the bar were lovely, very helpful and polite. Breakfast was good, we both had eggs Benedict cooked to perfection. The shower was great and the bathroom and bedroom clean. Not so good, a pint and a large wine £11.70. Dinner was underwhelming, overdone fish, underdone peas and chips, steak that didn’t taste like steak. The room we stayed in was tired and could do with sprucing up, lose the artificial flowers! The bed very firm, neither of us slept well. Fowey is very hilly so just beware if you have mobility issues that although the car park isn’t far, it is a steep walk to it. In the week, a bus runs every 15 minutes, but not on a Sunday. Fowey itself has some wonderful old buildings, some gorgeous looking bakeries and the inevitable gift shops, loads of them. Fowey River Gallery is worth a look though. We live in a very touristy area ourselves and just felt, that for the prices, The Ship needs to up its game, better food, the rooms could be so lovely and cosy with a bit of imagination. The big guy with the tattoos needs to smile more and be a bit more welcoming!

We visited Fowey today and, having been to The Ship on a previous visit a long time ago, we decided to visit again. Following COVID-19 rules we asked for a table for 5 people (just for drinks) and were told we would need to wait 5 minutes whilst the table was cleaned. Not a problem at all. 5 minutes later we were sitting in the pub anxious for a drink. We waited; and we waited and we waited. Orders were taken from all other customers but no one approached us. We waited a while longer and other customers were served but not us! Not wanting to break the Covid rules we didn’t attempt to go to the bar we continued to wait patiently for our order to be taken. To no avail. The staff came and went from one customer to another even serving new customers before us. Having waited long enough we decided to leave. In these trying times this pub obviously doesn’t need the custom. Not an experience we will be repeating!

Unfortunately The Ship gave us our worst experience while in Cornwall. We first visited on Saturday evening for a few drinks and found there was a lack of Covid precautions. The bar area was very full and we didn't know where to stand to maintain social distancing (signs say one person per group at the bar only, but that's quite difficult if there are a lot of drinks to carry, and the glass screens at the bar only protect the staff). The tables were covered in crumbs so hadn't been cleaned, and at one point the group behind us was so close I could only just squeeze back to my seat. There was no toilet roll in the toilet. Our details were not taken for track and trace (all other venues did this upon entry), and it was so busy we did not see the signs related to that. I don't think many people are providing their details in there.
We had a booking for dinner the next evening which I'd made two months prior, so we were going to see if that was any more organised. On that day, we rang in the afternoon to see if we could push the table back by half an hour, only to be told that they didn't have a record of our booking at all. I had email confirmation, but the man who answered the phone sounded disinterested and said he'd only just started his shift so he didn't know anything about it and they were fully booked. We were therefore left without a booking in peak season, which is exactly what I wanted to avoid by booking so far in advance. It was just lucky we called to try to change the time. When I replied to my email confirmation to complain, the more helpful James said that they do always have a spare table that can be used in such instances, but we weren't told that on the day. This left us very disappointed and trying to scramble around making alternative arrangements at the last minute.
We visited a lot of restaurants, pubs and bars while in Cornwall and The Ship was our only bad experience.

This is the email we sent you first when we heard about the mix up I totally understand and agree that you would be disappointed with the table booking being misplaced as i have proof of your booking in an email and it is something i will be looking into. I can only apologise that the member of staff sounded disinterested and can assure you that will be addressed. Please can i assure you that you wouldn’t have been left with no dinner this evening, as we have a table that we do not book out that could have been used, as it has in the past for over stays. We ourselves have been away for a few days attending a family wedding. So to hear you felt unimpressed with our covid precautions is worrying to us. We have removed multiple table to adhere to the one meter plus rule, we have opened an extra bathroom upstairs for public use to help with social distancing. We did initially do table service only but as the spaces are small we decided that running a system where one person from each table came to order at the bar where we have fitted safety screens was a safer option. I am sorry there was a gentleman in the ladies facilities, the gentlemen's toilets are signed so not sure why he would be in there. Also please pass on my apologies for the running out of toilet paper. We have also experienced that else where as it is so busy everywhere at the moment. We do have a track and trace in place, two methods, a QR code and a number for customers to message their details to so we have all their details on the day they visited, this information is displayed on 5 notices around the pub. Please could you let me know where you sat yesterday and what time? When we arrive home this evening i will go through the cctv footage so we can address the lack of social distancing and food being left on the tables as this certainly is not the way we have been running our business. We have been complimented may times over the last few weeks on people saying how they felt we had managed to keep the atmosphere of the pub while still feeling safe. Sorry you were left feeling disappointed.

We had an evening meal here during half term week and ordered the fish and chips from the small limited menu.
The food priced at £14 per plate arrived to a feeling of disappointment. The portions were small to start with and the quality of the food was abysmal. The peas looked and tasted like yesterday’s completely dried out and wrinkly the fish batter was soggy and full of oil and the chips passable - just though were scant in quantity, even the wedge of lemon had dried out and formed a skin.
The tartare sauce - from a big jar - was liquid and full of vinegar suggesting that it had been asked to go the extra mile and thinned down.
When we left we spied the chef out the back puffing on a fag without my care for the crap he was producing.
Given what we paid for this awful meal it felt like robbery.
The beer however was good.
So when in Fowey enjoy a pint but give a wide berth to the poor quality pub food at extortionate prices.
There are far better ways to waste fifty quid for three people.

11 of us ate, all very different dishes. It was obvious that they were really busy, but everything came out together, pipping hot and tasted fabulous!!! The staff and management were really attentive and made us feel incredibly welcome even though we had a couple of hyper active children with us. They even supplied paper and pens to keep them entertained!! Highly recommended!!!

We visited this week, whilst moored up during a yacht sailing course. We took a little return ferry from the mooring that cost £5.00 return.
Most places in the area stopped serving food at 2.30pm, but The Ship we’re serving until 3pm, a bonus.
There were 5 of us, and we all ordered fish and chips served outside, we got the last free table. Costing £14 for fish and chips, soft drinks were expensive.
The service was very good and our food arrived quickly.
Fish and chips were okay, nothing that special but enjoyable.
Nice place to sit and people watch , it was very busy around the area.

We ate at The Ship in Fowey when we were on holiday, I booked a table at 5pm and no one informed us that they didn't start serving food until 6pm, we had a 2 year old with us.
The crab salad was way over priced, drowned in mayo and the 'salad' was clearly out of a bag. My brother found a hair in his but as the waitress had been so rude all the way along he couldn't be bothered to complain. The fish pie tasted off and the mussels were way to fishy - another sign of out of date food. The chef came through to the dining area to tell the waitress he didn't have certain dishes - no mask on and no social distancing whilst he was talking to our table - in the current times thats not acceptable.
The only redeeming factor was a lovely waitress ( shame we didnt have her) let my niece stroke Jeff and Daphne on the way out.

Would NOT recommend this pub to anyone that visits Fowey, we at at the Old Galleon the next day which was much better.

So sorry to hear you had a bad experience with us. Unfortunately crab is very expensive at the moment due to a shortage. Yes, our mixed leave is from a bag, accompanied by many other hand cut ingredients. Sorry you found it to be drowned in mayonnaise, we usually have many compliments on our crab dishes so i will make sure the kitchen staff are aware. If you had of informed us of the hair we would of rectified immediately. I would like to also apologise for rude staff (normally we have happy, smilie staff but due to the increase of tourists our amazing staff are working their little butts off but i will let them know to smile more 😁) I can reassure you that we have no out of date fish on site, we buy fresh every day due to high demand. No mask is unacceptable and i will address all staff as a whole on this matter. Glad your niece liked Daphne and Geoff, they are very popular. Also glad you have a lovely visit to The Galleon, fab views 😉
