The Fowey Harbour Hotel is often lauded for its impeccable cleanliness, boasting spotless rooms with high-quality linens and a modern aesthetic. Guests are enveloped in a serene atmosphere, complete with luxury touches like complimentary gin and tonic. While the stunning views from the rooms are a highlight, the lack of air conditioning and high prices have been noted. Its prime location garners appreciation for both scenic beauty and easy access to local attractions. The staff's friendly and attentive service frequently receives accolades, although opinions on value and amenities like breakfast are mixed.

My husband and I visited for one night for our wedding anniversary and we had a lovely stay.
The weather was absolutely gorgeous and our sea view room had the most stunning views.
All of the staff we encountered from check in, to the bar to breakfast service were wonderful. The hotel benefits from beautiful well kept grounds, parking can be reserved in advance for an extra charge which we took advantage of, and it’s only a short walk into Fowey and to the beach.
The continental breakfast was plentiful and cooked options were available off the menu for a surcharge but we stuck with the continental as planned on fish and chips for lunch!

It was lovely to read how well everyone looked after you, this does make such a difference doesn't it. I'm glad you enjoyed our breakfast and were able to leave room for the fish and chips later Our parking is limited but great to see you were able to book a space. Now you have found us do please come and see us again. Kind regards, Andrew Jenkins, General Manager. fowey@harbourhotels.co.uk harbourhotels.co.uk/fowey 01726832551

What a beautiful hotel.

Initial impressions were great. The bar/restaurant area is beautiful with stunning views. We enjoyed a few drinks one evening. They are sensibly priced given the location and we felt so relaxed.

We also sampled breakfast 2 mornings and dinner 1 night. 10/10 for the quality of food and ambience.

Our room was lovely with stunning estuary views. A little cold. We soon realised why the radiator had been turned off. It sounded like a waterfall when turned back on but I guess that's been to the age.

Breakfast service made us chuckle. Staff do need a bit of training as it's pretty chaotic with tables trying to get the staffs attention/being forgotten. Our waitress dropped a slice of toast on our table, picked it up, and put it back in our rack. Should have either have been taken away, or left for us to pick up.

Also, please work on your bills presented when checking out. They are so confusing.

Despite my constructive criticism, I would 100% recommend this hotel. Its definitely one we'd return to in Cornwall.

We also adored the lift.

Dear Julie K, Many thanks for your kind and helpful review and I was pleased to see you had such a lovely stay with us. I am glad you enjoyed the ambience in the bar and the amazing views as well as breakfast and dinner. My apologies for the noisy heating, we are working with our maintenance team to clear all the air from the system and get it running smoothly, all should be done soon.. We will have a look at breakfast and see where we have been letting the ball drop with the attention. I am sorry we did not manage the toast incident properly, we'll be on to this at once. I will have to talk to our central team to see if there is an easier way to display the bills, having the breakdown between food, drinks and wine at dinner does mean more lines than you might be expecting as well as having the vat element showing for each transaction. There may be an easy switch we can do to simplify this. Thank you again, both for staying and for your helpful comments and we do look forward to seeing you here again when you have the opportunity. Kind regards, Andrew Jenkins, General Manager

We spent three nights here in mid May. We booked rooms with a river view and they both had lovely views over the River Fowey towards Polruan on the other side. One had a balcony but this was shared with other rooms so not private. Each room had a fridge with drinks in, some free gin, hot drink making facilities and a fully equipped bathroom with good quality towels and toiletries. My only niggle was that I couldn't open one window at all and the other wouldn't stay open. There were plenty of plugs and a good tv with armchairs. The bed was very comfortable. There was a good choice of drinks in the bar and the food in the restaurant was very good - an interesting choice, well cooked and service was prompt and friendly. We felt well looked after. Soups were particularly delicious. Again the view was over the river but you could also dine on the terrace and in the summer this would be lovely as it's sheltered from direct sun by the evening. There is a lift to upper floors but this was being maintained during our stay and it may be worth checking it will be available if you are likely to need it. Parking in the area is tight but the hotel has a small car park and you can book a space for your stay which I would highly recommend. From the hotel it's about 15 minutes to walk into Fowey and Readymoney Cove (where you can swim yourself or with your dog) is about 10 minutes in the other direction. The staff were for the most part lovely - friendly, helpful and generally attentive and the manager was visible and knowledgeable which was a bonus. We will definitely return.

Dear Aliscrafty, Many thanks for your very kind review, it was lovely to read how much you enjoyed your time here in Fowey. Thank you for such a comprehensive rundown of the hotel and the town, this will be really useful for our future guests. There are just a couple more days work to do on the lift now which we hope to have finished by the end of the month. I am sorry you could not open the windows, I will try and trace back to your booking so we can rectify this urgently - with what we hope will be a lovely summer we will need the ventilation! It is always a pleasure to see how well the team looked after you, such an important factor to get right and I'm pleased to see we did so well. We do look forward to seeing you again. Spent four nights here with my wife, in a very spacious room overlooking the inlet and Polraun.
Enjoyed our stay very much however the hotel does have some odd quirks and some omissions.
Room was very clean, bright and well furnished. Doors opened onto common veranda and their locking mechanism would be very easy to defeat.
Room was very warm, no AC is available.
Fridge in the room is only really a chiller.
Staff are very friendly, helpful and attentive, a real positive for the place.
Car park is not the easiest to get into or out of and you have to book in advance to secure a spot plus pay for it.
Considering what your paying for your room (without AC) I think the daily charge is a bit high, still its handy and right outside the hotel.
Breakfast is a bit difficult to say the least, insufficient tables to accommodate everyone at any one time, so it can be a bit busy.
Continental offerings are laid out on small serving platters, so frequently need to be topped up, this can take a long time before the staff realise their empty.
All cooked items are an extra £10, weather its just scrambled eggs or a proper full breakfast.
We ate evening meal once and were a little dissatisfied with the quality / cost ratio so didn't eat there again.
Their 'artisan bread' is just packet bread, its also served at breakfast out of the plastic wrapper...
Dogs are also allowed in the dining area although only at two tables, really don't think this should be allowed, not in a food area.
Would have to think long and hard about staying here again, no doubt is probably among the best hotels in Fowey, but an AirBnB with AC and parking would be worth considering and probably cheaper.

Dear rangestormer, Many thanks for your kind and helpful review, I was very pleased to see you had such a lovely stay with us. Thank you for all the positive feedback, especially your comments on our team, it was good to see you were so well looked after. Like many old Cornish towns which do look quaint and interesting does make for some interesting driving and parking. We are lucky to have a few spaces on site and have found the best way to manage these is to ask people to reserve at time of booking. We do make a charge for this as only a few guests can access these, the cost is only a little more than the Town Car Park just up the road and, as you say, so much more convenient. It is very difficult to retrofit air-conditioning, even when doing a full refurbishment as we did a few years ago so we do need to look at different ways of doing this. Most hotels have smaller restaurants than the number of guests so breakfast, particularly can get busy, we manage this as well as we can to prevent a queue at the door. We do keep the plates of fruit, cheese and meats on smaller dishes so we can keep them cool and not left all breakfast though we have recognised we need to adapt our processes to ensure these do not run out too quickly and that we can swap them over quicker. I was very surprised to see you thought the bread in your bread basket was not the homemade artisan bread we regularly serve. I do recall us responding to a request recently for a slice of bread with a starter so we gave a slice of the breakfast bread rather than charging for the bread basket. My apologies if this wasn't the case for you but this is the only scenario I can think of where we would not have used the proper product. We do use a quality sliced loaf for breakfast, it isn't practical to hand slice this on a daily basis nor desirable to leave the bread and a knife by the toaster. A quick advisory on the doors to the shared terrace, these do have bolts as well as the locking handle which does make them more secure. We would very much like to see you here again, do check our pricing carefully against the local competition I am sure you will see some good deals later in the year. Kind regards, Andrew Jenkins, General Manager

We’ve just returned from a short break at this lovely, quaint hotel. The rooms are very comfortable and equipped with everything we needed. There are lovely views and it’s an easy walk into town.
The staff, without exception, are welcoming, friendly, helpful and polite. The last moment allocation of a parking space was greatly appreciated, as were the phone calls made before our arrival to confirm our booking, details and requirements.
The continental breakfast, although adequate, was a little unimaginative, however there was always the option of cooked options for a surcharge should you wish. It’s not a big issue but something as simple as a selection of fresh fruit would have lifted the continental breakfast.
We would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family and would not hesitate to re-book a visit.

We have just had five very enjoyable days here.

The location is just stunning, second to none, the staff are polite and friendly and the rooms decorated in a relaxed modern style. Some great extras in the room such as sherry and gin, lovely to sip whilst watching the river traffic.

The food at dinner and breakfast was first class, as was the service.

But there were a few niggles. We had booked a superior sea view room and the bathroom was minute. In such a small space it would surely make sense to take the bath out and put a shower cubicle in? It’s no joke when you can’t stand fully in front of the sink because of the proximity to the toilet. Likewise I don’t think you mention on your room descriptors that there are steps up/down to the bathroom, not a problem in the day but difficult to negotiate in the dark - maybe you should investigate some low level lighting to make it safer at night?

The final negative has got to be the car parking situation. You make a big deal at the booking stage about there being limited booking and it has to be booked in advance (which we duly did) that there is a charge etc, you follow it up by ringing the week before to get the vehicle registration, make and model etc so that you can allocate a suitable spot, then we arrive and the reserved space is occupied. This didn’t happen just the once, but every single time we returned to the hotel. Whilst your staff were very pleasant and told us not to worry they would sort it out - that sort out didn’t really materialise. It was really stressful not knowing if we could get out the following morning as we had been blocked in. You need to either make it clear that parking is on a first come first served basis or come up with a more practical and workable system for car parking as the current one isn’t fit for purpose.

Dear Debbie, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review following your recent stay, we really appreciate it. I am delighted to read the team looked after you so well, they all work really hard so it's great to see it recognised. I appreciate your feedback regarding the lighting in the room, this is something I will look into for the steps leading up to the bathroom, in this particular room. I understand your comments regarding the car parking, we are very limited, so where we are lucky we do have the spaces we do, we wish we could accommodate all guests. I am sorry to hear there had been someone in your parking space each time you came back, our porter try's their best to monitor people parking so spaces are free when guests come back. We will keep working on this, to make sure it's as smooth as possible for our guests. Thank you again for your feedback and I hope we will welcome you back in the near future. Kind Regards, Emily Abbott, Operations Manager.

We recently got married here and found the whole experience from start the finish absolutely amazing. The staff are all so lovely; highly professional and very friendly. They made the whole experience seamless and we really didn't have to worry about anything. Sidney and Holly were fantastic wedding planners and Andrew and Emily were fantastic on the day; making everything happen, ensuring it was a truly enjoyable experience and not at all stressful. The hotel itself was stunning. Very clean, beautiful decor and gorgeous food! We got married inside and the room was stunning with gorgeous views of the harbour. We were lucky to have lovely weather on the day and had some photos outside. The backdrops of the garden, harbour and beach in our photos look beautiful. The wedding package was incredible value for money and we were particularly impressed that we could pay per guest and have as little or as many as we wanted. We would highly recommend to anyone looking for an intimate yet classy stress-free wedding.

We have just returned from a lovely weekend at the Fowey Harbour Hotel. We were a little nervous as we had previously had two poor experiences with other hotels in the chain, but the Fowey Harbour Hotel was absolutely lovely! The staff were all welcoming, friendly, yet professional and all looked smart. Our room was beautiful, clean, spacious and with a stunning view! There were lovely toiletries provided in the rooms and in big pump bottles so no unnecessary small plastic bottle wastage. We had the most amazing dinner in the restaurant, with a stunning view over the Fowey Estuary and over to Polruan. The food was amazing! Huge thanks to the very talented chef. The restaurant staff were very efficient. They got whatever was needed and promptly and at breakfast the buffet bar was constantly being replenished with fresh juice, pastries etc. We were also impressed with the Covid safety precautions - hand sanitiser available on tables and staff spraying down tables thoroughly with anti-bac after each use. Our parking from the town car park was even refunded to us. Overall, a lovely, small, boutique hotel with fabulous food, stunning views and helpful staff. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay - we will definitely be returning to this Harbour Hotel.

OK it was February and the weather was grey but the overall impression on entering the lobby is dismal. The "contemporary and vibrant colours" aren't. They are dark; the lighting in public spaces and rooms is also very subdued which gives quite a miserable ambience.

We had a superior sea view room which was mid-sized as described but the bathroom was extremely small.

The superking sized bed was very comfortable with a marshmallow mattress topper and good linen.

There's a fridge in each room. So why not provide fresh milk instead of awful UHT milk in plastic containers? I'm sure it would have been given if we'd had asked but at this price point, it should be standard. Also, instant coffee is for budget hotels. Yes, there was a 'Nespresso' machine but they only give a mouthful and only four capsules were provided each day.

Breakfast was ok but guests had to ask for items and crockery to be replenished several times. I know it's 'casual all day dining' but the staff were a bit too casual at times.

The evening meals were fine but the menu no more exciting than anywhere else locally - and more expensive.

It is worth reserving a car parking space in advance as there are 37 rooms and just 22 spaces. It's only a few minutes walk into town but finding a space might prove a bit difficult in busier times.

I really wouldn't want to pay any more than the February rate for this room in this hotel - even taking into consideration its location and proximity to the centre of town. I'd rather pay more and receive a better experience.

Dear Melanie Two, Thank you for your full and fair review and I am so sorry you had a disappointing stay with us. This is far from our normal standard of service and I will be reviewing this with my department managers this week. We did have one member of staff call in sick for Sunday morning so the team was a little stretched. Our reception entrance is a little darker at the moment as we have had the main pendant light removed while we are doing some work on the roof above and we do dim all the ground floor lighting in the evening when we light the candles. I will talk to our marketing team to ensure the descriptions are fair. When we write our spring menu we will have more opportunity to add our own dishes to make the dinner menu more interesting though we do have some exceptional restaurants in town to compete with. You are very right with regards to the parking, this is limited and well worth booking as far in advance as possible. For those who choose not to or are not able to park on site we recommend the town car park just up the hill and we reimburse this on check out. My apologies again and do please come and give us another opportunity to show you the proper hotel that we are. Kind regards, Andrew Jenkins, General Manager

A beautiful hotel in a stunning location - a designated parking space, located immediately outside the hotel, makes it very convenient. The bedrooms were lovely, with very comfy beds and pillows and a generous, well appointed bathroom. The bar/lounge, dining room and terrace all have stunning views and there is a sunny garden for relaxing. The food was excellent. But what makes this hotel special is the staff - every member of staff we met was incredibly kind and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. We would highly recommend this hotel!

Responded 21 Jun 2024
Dear stephaniegG6229PA, Many thanks for your really kind review, I was very pleased to see just how good a break you had with us here in Fowey. Our design team did an amazing job with the refurbishment a few years ago, I am glad you like it, we're really pleased with the rooms and the public areas too. We are blessed with some of the best views in Cornwall, even allowing for our bias, happy to have shared these with you. I was especially pleased to read how well everyone looked after you, this really is the main point of difference we are trying to deliver so it is good to see the positive results! Do please come and see us again when you have the chance to get away. Kind regards, Andrew Jenkins, General Manager. fowey@harbourhotels.co.uk harbourhotels.co.uk/fowey 01726832551

There is no charge added to the cost of the room for sure and i think there is a cost added to the restaurant costs.

Parking spaces are very small! Suggest you tell the hotel you have a large 4x4 and need a big space!

Dear WestEndG, Thank you very much for your inquiry. We are dog friendly and accept dogs in certain rooms, the same rooms that the previous owner used to. On our public areas such and restaurant and bar, we are unable to accommodate dogs as nowadays it is set on an open plan. We do accept dogs on our terrace and gardens. I hope this answers your question. Kind Regards Nicolas Monaglio Hotel Manager

I am so sorry but I have only just seen your enquiry. There are steps to enter the hotel on one side, but none for the main entrance. There is a really beautiful, old style lift there. But there may be a ground floor room available too - worth contacting them. They are very helpful and would accommodate you as best they can, I am sure. Fowey centre is a downhill walk but it is quite a steep climb in places on the way back. Best wishes
