We just had 1 night on a secret escapes deal with dinner and breakfast. We arrived early and as expected room wasn't ready but the hotel kindly rung us when it became available to check in. We booked the street facing room which was well tastefully decorated with a good size bathroom. The bedroom was a little small and very warm. We were woken very early by the church bells, cars and bottle pick up so the river side rooms would be better. The evening meal was a little disappointing. The mackerel starter was tasty just not enough. The blade of beef really needed some other component. Service was excellent though from the young gentleman who also served us at breakfast. Breakfast was excellent though. Able to select as much as you wanted from the menu. The cooked cornish was excellent. Great produce, well cooked and beautifully hot. For me would have liked some form of sweet pastry/ muffin on the menu. The staff here are very friendly and on check out the receptionist was also very good, checking everything was good with our stay. Happy with our stay for what we paid and would look for the offer in the future.

Hotel's Favourite
10 years of staying at the old quay house and loving it as much as the 1st time, all the staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome nothing is too much trouble, our room was serviced to the highest standard our king sized bed has a high end mattress guaranteeing a great nights sleep room 5 has a partial view of the estuary we now have a smart television at last. The restaurant offers great choice of breakfasts freshly cooked to perfection in the evening the chefs really excel delivering delicious food, we asked for some dishes not on the menu the chef sourced it all for us nothing was too much trouble and he did so with a smile, the serving staff are warm and friendly with a smile, even Andy the night porter put news papers on our table with a large cafeteria at 7 .50 so that I was able to enjoy both before breakfast.

This little hotel is really a great restaurant with rooms, comfortable and small enough to feel special, in a picturesque harbour town on the South Coast. Would recommend a stay at any time of the year.

This is a lovely boutique hotel with restaurant over looking the quay. We stayed in the 'The Loft' which is a fantastic room with separate lounge area with stunning views. The bed is a luxurious futon so you need to be a little agile and as you would imagine there are a lot of stairs to get up! Once climbed however it is well worth it. All the extras you would expect and even an outside area for the summer months. No parking as in the old town but plenty of spaces in the public car parks, just drop off the cases first then stroll back. Breakfast was good, we did not have dinner but it has a good reputation for food and there are plenty of other quality places to eat in Fowey. Well worth a visit, we will go back for sure.

We have just returned for a lovely stay at The Old Quay House Hotel in Fowey. We have stayed there before but many years ago and we were really impressed. It is a small hotel in one of the best positions on the main street in Fowey with one side looking directly over the estuary. We were given room 10 with a little balcony and side view of the water, the room was a great size with everything you would need and lots of drawers and hanging space, bed was very comfortable and the decor was neutral and relaxing. Reception was really helpful and although we didn't stay for dinner we had a drink at the bar and breakfast where the service and quality of both was exceptional. There is no parking at the hotel but this applies to many places (and hotels) in Fowey due to the nature of it being a beautiful old Cornish town with narrow streets, but there are car parks where you can stay overnight. Hopefully we won't leave it years until we are back again.

Have visited Fowey before and often noticed this hotel. Great location on the waterfront, welcoming friendly atmosphere and good service. Well appointed and comfortable accommodation. Good restaurant with supplies sourced locally, excellent chef but fairly limited dinner menu for vegetarians.

Firstly I would like to point out we got a very good deal on secret escapes for dinner bed and breakfast. The food was very good for dinner and breakfast so we can't fault that. The problem we had was the room, we did book the standard one which is the only one with the deal, but as probably most people do I check the prices on bookings.com etc. On the night we stayed they had all types of rooms available and free upgrade on the standard room. When we arrived we were given room 1 and as we found out it was very small and looking out onto the road with single pane large window but it was clean. There were only about 4 couples staying that night. Late at night we were woken by loud cars and bikes going down the road and also at 6.30 the next morning by the staff i presume taking the very noisy bin out! What i don't get is why would you put guests in this room with most of the hotel empty. We live about an hour away and go away for the odd night regularly and as a hotel when you are nearly empty would you put guests and maybe returning guests because of the location to us in the worst room! Its bad management or policy because we got it cheap. Also be aware that a 12.5% service charge is put on your dinner bill for the total amount even if you have got dinner included! So our bill added the £90 for two 3 course dinners then the service charge BEFORE taking the £90 off at the end. It is a shame because we will return to Fowey but not stay at this hotel.

Response from Amarni Willetts, General Manager at The Old Quay House Hotel
Responded 3 weeks ago
Hi UkBlackie, Thank you for reviewing the Hotel, we really do appreciate all feedback. I will address your comments below- I am glad you found a good deal to stay with us, finding such a great rate is always a positive start. Our chefs are very talented, so i am not surprised to hear you enjoyed your food during your stay. On the night of your stay, we actually had 3 rooms available out of the whole hotel, 2 of which had maintenance issues, one of the toilets was not flushing another the light switch was not working to activate the electrics (we could not get a plumber or an electrician on the same day as they were all busy) and the 3rd room was in the same category you had booked. Therefore, we had no room to upgrade you into. We are always looking to upgrade guests as and when we can, so i apologise that we were unable to offer this for you during your nights stay with us. We do not look at the price the guests pays for their room. We treat everyone the same, as we should do. The price you pay for your room does not define the type of guest you are. I hope this puts your mind at ease. Regarding the service charge, this is completely discretionary. All Hotels in the surrounding area does the same. However, it does state on our menus that we apply a 12.5% discretionary service charge, you do not need to pay this and can always amend the amount. I am saddened to hear that you would not be returning to us. We pride ourselves on great service and lovely food and comfy and cosy rooms. Perhaps you may change your mind now that i have addressed your comments on your review. I also had wished you spoke to myself or my Operations Managers at the time as we would of been more than happy to reassure you and assist wherever possible. Wishing you the very best and i hope you can return in the future.

We stayed here with friends just for one night, the hotel is right in the middle of the town on the waterfront. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, rooms were warm, clean with a huge comfortable bed. The highlight for all of us was undoubtedly the breakfast, great choice, and cooked to perfection. We will most definitely be coming back.
