Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Second stay at this hotel but on this occasion the room we had was in need of some TLC. The bedside table was looking worn with lots of paint missing. We could feel the springs through the mattress on the bed & the pressure on the shower was poor. The room & bathroom were well cleaned. The water was piping hot & with the radiator on the room was nice & cosy. However, the grouting was quite black in places around the bath & some of the tiles, which made the bathroom look grubby. The evening meal was a bit disappointing. I had the pork. The meat was tasty & the veg was fine but the gravy was very thin with not much taste. The apple pie was nice but could have done with some ice cream as I didn't want custard. I wasn't offered an alternative, My husband & friends had apple pie & custard which they said was the best part of the meal. There was a limited choice of breakfast but we were happy with what we chose. The staff were friendly & helpful & the grounds around the hotel were well kept. It was nicely decorated for the festive season.

This was such a disappointment, the hotel is not particularly friendly and very tired looking ,paintwork on bedside cabinets dressing table and staircase flaking and messy. Went to restaurant and had Haddock fishcakes ,mash and mixed veg,it was awful to look at ,a child could have produced it.Contacted manager and all 4 members of my tables meals changed ,the new meals looked as though a chef had produced it. The manager never came back to check if this was ok,NO ONE CARES. Even on checkout no one asked if we enjoyed our stay . YUK.

We stayed at the hotel for three nights midweek in October 2023 and used this as our base to explore the Forest of Dean. Our room was a double, and we found it to be exceptionally clean and tidy. The bed was huge and very comfortable. The room had all the standard items you would expect, anything else could be requested at reception. The shower was brilliant and I found myself staying in there longer than I needed too. Breakfast was served in the Club House and once again it was superb, you could help yourself to a cooked meal, cereals, croissants etc, it really set you up for the day. During our stay we had two meals in the restaurant and one bar snack. All three meals were exceptional and the menu caters for vegetarians. The staff were brilliant, all our waiter service at night or at breakfast were polite and nothing was too much trouble. I have been thinking very hard of any negative comments that I needed to raise but to be honest I cannot think of any. It was defiantly one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at and I would whole heartedly recommend it of value and service.

All of the staff are so nice and polite, from the receptionist on arrival, the bar staff and restaurant staff. I stayed in a newly refirbished room which had a king sized bed and a desk. The restaurant is tastefully decorated with large windows overlooking the golf course. The food was excellent at a reasonable price. The hotel is within easy access to Bath, Bristol & Cardiff if like me you're not a golfer.

The beds are very comfy and the staff are lovely, particularly the lady on reception in the evenings but this is the first hotel Ive visited in about 10 years that offers absolutely nothing for vegetarians at breakfast. Even cheap budget hotels manage to provide veggie sausages and bacon, Bells offer nothing at all. You just get the regular meat based breakfast but without the meat. Feel sorry for anyone who is vegan as they literally get nothing at all! Not even a milk alternative on offer. 25% of the country eat no meat and over 50% say they are trying to eat less meat but bells still live in the 1990s and dont cater for them. They dont even offer hash browns on the breakfast, it really is just all about the meat! You can have them if you pay, there are signs up offering a sandwich with hash browns but these are not on the breakfast buffet. Beans, tinned tomatoes, soggy mushrooms and dry toast is just not good enough to be called a full English! Maybe your chef could visit a Premier Inn to get some tips on how to offer a breakfast thats inclusive to the 1 in 4 people that dont eat meat?

Response from Tina Coleman, Marketing at Bells Hotel and Country Club
Responded 3 Oct 2023
Good morning Lisa, I apologise you didn't find the breakfast suitable on your stay. We do have a sign up on our breakfast/buffet stand and breakfast menu stating that if you require a vegetarian/gluten free options then to ask as we are more than happy to supple hash browns and we always have gluten free sausages in which we cook fresh to order at no additional charge. We can also cook fresh vegan options on request.
