Loved our stay at the Forest House in Coleford, Gloucestershire.

Perfect for large groups of family or friends. Each room has an en-suite bathroom which are very clean and looked after.

Kitchen is a commercial set up and works really well in cooking large meals.

Comfortable and enjoyable - my only request to the owners would be a few more sofas in and around the ground floor would be a welcomed addition to relax!

Great walks around the area, you’re right in the centre of the village with perfect amenities and supplies on your doorstep.

Happy New Year!

Thank you for your response! I agree totally about the sofas and have a 3 seater arriving next week for the small lounge and a corner set arriving in 12 weeks for the games room together with a couple of giant bean bags! As you know we are just changing from a guest house to a holiday let and the needs are slightly different. Your feedback has been invaluable and we have acted upon it immediately. So pleased that you enjoyed your stay Best Regards Barbara & Simon

Best small hotel I have stayed in. Ten of us spent five nights here. The food is excellent, as a large group with differing tastes we found the food faultless - nothing was too much trouble for Barbara and her husband Simon. The bar area is pleasant tho rather small - but it is very well stocked and we had our own mini gin fest!! There is a pleasant covered patio area, with heaters outside.
I had room 8, on the first floor which was large, bright and very comfortable. There are no ground floor bedrooms.
We would love to have a return visit. Felt quiet emotional saying goodbye to Barbara when we left as she had made us feel so welcome.

My wife and I booked Forest House for a one night stay whilst visiting relatives in the area. What a delight to stay here, a very warm welcome upon arrival and shown up to our top floor room which had I been 6 foot 6 may have been a problem but since I'm just under 6 foot was fine. Very clean room and the shower was so powerful it was superb.
Breakfast was also first class, as good as any we have had in a top hotel.
Absolutely great stay, we would highly recommend.

We booked a table for diner and on arrival we gave our details for the booking and number of our group which was 9. The lady’s attitude was appalling telling us that we was wrong! Excuse me but why would we say 5 if we are a group of 9! We understand mistakes happen and accept that but we won’t accept the attitude received from the staff. Never going back

Dear Elizabeth W, The booking was made by your husband an hour before you were due to arrive. I understood the party size to be 5 and repeated this to your husband. If I heard this incorrectly, then I apologise. However, we were unable to accommodate a party of 9 - as a five it was our last available table. At no point did I say that you were wrong and I apologised to your husband if I had misheard. This was an honest mistake and I am having trouble understanding your attitude; however, I accept that you were upset and appreciate that you will never return Barbara Andersen

We had a family "do" here with 15 people eating at the restaurant and 3 couples staying in the hotel. The hotel is beautifully finished with some very nice touches which give a great feeling to the place. The rooms are large and the bed is extremely comfortable. "Proper" coffee (regular and decaff) along with the usual teas in each room. Usual room facilities and very nicely finished. The shower is great, lots of water pressure. Breakfast in the morning is substantial with cereals, yogurt, fruit salad and a good range of cooked options. Full English is lovely!
The meal in the restaurant was FANTASTIC. Quality ingredients, great choice and even though there were 15 at our table all the food arrived perfectly cooked and within a couple of minutes so no waiting around as you can get with large groups.
The staff were really friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. It's operated by a husband (chef) and wife (front of house) team and they take a lot of trouble and pride in giving you a great experience.
An excellent stay and highly recommended. Can't wait to stay there again.

From the minute we walked in we were made to feel welcome. From free bean to cup coffee to the quality toiletries and lovely room, it was clear that this was a hotel of quality. Add to that, the lovely warm welcome from Barbara and Simon (and if you are lucky you may even see their beautiful cats) and a well stocked bar, we felt at home, pampered and cared for. We will definitely return and I can't recommend this hotel enough. A special mention for the breakfast too, the best I have ever had in a hotel! Thank you

A lovely hotel near the centre of Coleford in the heart of The Forest of Dean. The room was very comfortable with a great shower.

The food was excellent and great value. The menu choice was well covered with good fish choices as well as steaks.

We had a very enjoyable stay at this amazing guest house. Although this is a guest house you wouldn't get any better hospitality if you were in a 5 Start Hotel. Barbara, the landlady was delightful and was very helpful throughout our stay. The food was brilliant, we enjoyed our meal on the Friday night so much that we decided to book a table for our 35th Wedding anniversary without looking for another restaurant in the area. There was a great variety of food on the menu with loads of fish dishes. The breakfast was another amazing treat, all freshly made to order. The room we stayed in was very clean and with plenty of space. We felt at home rather than in a guest house. We were attending a wedding at Clearwell Castle on the Saturday and Forest House is an ideal location to stay which is less than 3 miles away. A short drive or taxi ride away. Thank you for such a lovely stay.

On arrival Barbara was very helpful answering questions about what to do
Bedroom had outstanding matress and great shower. The dinner menu in their Bistro called Andersen's looked very interesting but was already meeting friends elsewhere.
Breakfast featured the best bacon obviously dry cured .My mate from the night before who lives nearby came to drop off something and was given breakfast on the house.Thank you Barbara you are great.
Following Barbara's advice discovered David Sheppard the Butcher and bought wild boar sausages and goose eggs
