Friendly, helpful and efficient service for food and drinks this evening. The New York chicken I had was delicious and my family were also happy with their meal. Generous portions and delicious pub grub. We had the added bonus of the eat out to help out scheme so had 50% off but the normal prices I feel would be more than fair based on the portion sizes and the quality of food.

Whilst the decor is quirky, the room was clean and staff welcoming. Food in the dining area was good.
The downsides are the WiFi is really poor which is not great if you are staying for work, and the parking is off site and unsecured. Hairdryer works but is fixed and has no adjustable settings, so no cool setting.

Reading the mixed reviews of the Angel from over the years we took the chance and were very pleasantly surprised. Not only is the hotel steeped in history, there are tales of hauntings and supernatural happenings, the room was lovely and warm, the welcome from everyone we met from cleaning staff to manager was really good, friendly and chatty - owners even spent time including us in their pool tournament. Food was very good but weee only serving breakfast, evening meals looked well priced with a good selection. Free parking is fairly close to the hotel but not owned or exclusive to it. We are looking forward to a return trip and was well worth the stay.

Extremely surprised to read that the hotel has been extensively refurbished. Certainly Room 106 was not with cheap vinyl coming away on the bathroom floor, atrocious furniture including a bed with large wooden decorative fittings designed to cause extensive bruising when walking past! Only 1 chair, stained carpet covered with rugs to trip over. Very Curt woman on Sunday evening set the scene. On one occasion, wet towels left in bath so had to dry them on the radiator, empty toilet roll left on floor - only bed made snd bin emptied. A real shame that such a beautiful Georgian building has such poor management and a ‘that will do’ attitude. The breakfast menu was very limited but the cooked breakfast was generally good and prompt although it was surprising to have tinned tomatoes served up! Cannot recommend at all which is sad due to the potential of the lovely architecture.

Room Tip: Coleford is sadly quite a run down town. Would not describe it as “a charming market town”

Staying in the area on a business trip I thought I would visit this establishment for an evening meal and a couple of drinks. On entering the premises I had a first good impression until I went to the bar area to ask for a table no one behind the bar so I tried to make myself known then about 15 minutes later a man in a pink top went behind the bar and just stood and looked at me then he said do you want serving yes or no. I pointed out that was not the way to speak to a paying customer and to be astonishment he told me that if I did not like it to go elsewhere. (only with more foul language). I left quickly and I will not be returning I will also inform my colleagues who often stay in the area not to visit this place. I really cannot understand that given how hospitality have suffered over the past 18 months or more can treat paying customers this way Are they trying to run this place to the ground.

My wife and I had a short break here. When we arrived we were impressed that quickly changed. Our room we found nice and clean. Then we encountered the managers….wow how on earth the run a place like this is beyond me. I would actually use the term alcoholic. The male we found to be extreme rude and obnoxious his wife more friendly. Here are my examples… ordering drinks at the bar took an extremely long time which normally I would find acceptable during busy periods but when you find yourself stood there for 10 minutes being the only person there well. I tried to draw attention to the bar man whom I later found out to be the manager / landlord he was very arrogant and more interested in drinking his drink and reading a newspaper rather than a paying customer. Breakfast the next day was late under cooked sausages and served the the arrogant male whom smelt so badly of alcohol it almost made me feel intoxicated. His partner I assume did try her best to make us feel welcome and almost seemed embarrassed by her partners behaviour. She quickly hurried away and out the door. We were due to stay and have a Sunday lunch here but we found it to be to uncomfortable. The place itself is beautiful but the manager lets it down badly.

This is one very strange place……If you want a lively atmosphere with football shirts and kids in abundance, this is the place for you. I’m talking a Wednesday teatime rather than when you’d expect it perhaps on a Friday or Saturday night…..? Even the manager / owner was plastered!! After attempting to check-in which was only possible during the gaps in the songs from the Juke Box where it was so loud, I was given a key and told where my room was. On the plus side, it was very large and had a 4 Poster Bed, but the fag butts all over the balcony and poorly fitting French doors were a bit of a let down. Bathroom was clean and spacious, so no issue with that. As it was nye on impossible to get to the bar, let alone be heard, I thought I’d wonder outside and see what else was about. I think the entire population of Coleford was in the bar as the other 2 pubs were empty and even less inviting !! Plenty of Kebab shops, but no other places to eat, so I ventured back to the Angel. I was shown to the restaurant, which was extremely nicely decorated and, believe it or not, peaceful. I was the only one in there. My main course arrived before my starter and there was a great deal of confusion when I asked for wine. Breakfast was OK, but you can’t go wrong with a sausage sandwich!! Be open minded when you book to stay here. It ‘ain’t what you’ll be expecting!!

We were both very comfortable on our twin bedded room. It was warm enough, although the temperature outside was below freezing, the beds were very comfortable and although it overlooked the front square the room was very quiet with no noise whatsoever inside or outside the hotel ( until the buses started running in the mornings ). The shower was excellent with plenty of hot water and the tea/coffee provided in our room most welcome. The hotel staff were so friendly and welcoming and the breakfast was amazing and kept us going all day. We will definitely return to this hotel when in Coleford again. All in all a very homely, comfortable time. Thank you.

I recently visited this place for an overnight stay with friends as well as an evening meal. The food was not good and made me feel very ill. We also had drinks but the glasses were dirty and the range of choice was very limited, not to mention the crazy high prices. So many places around coleford doing it for much cheaper. The owners were very loud and seemed a bit drunk on our last night. Was very disappointed with the state of the room and the hotel as a whole as it’s clear to see they don’t care too much for cleanliness. There is always a group of people smoking by the door making it a poor entrance for families wanting meals. The whole place could do with a redo and until this is done I wouldn’t advise anyone to stay there.

I visited the angel hotel last week for a nights stay with some friends and I am really disappointed with my experience. The hotel room itself was not clean and hygienic , there were stains on the bedding which shows that they are not meeting the expected hygiene standards to satisfy their customers. My friends and I were not able to sleep until around 12:30 because there was a huge amount of noise. There were lots of people downstairs in the restaurant/ bar area who were creating a lot of noise and were drunk who were beginning to start arguments. We addressed these issues to the manager and he was drunk himself who ignored us.
I would not recommend the angel hotel. Please do not waste your time there.

The only way we can cater for a wedding is the food side, unfortunately we are not a wedding venue. If there is anything else we can help you with let us know. Kind Regards.
