Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It’s the first tile we have been to Symonds Yat and the Forest of Dean and this was the perfect location to stay and see the area. The apartment is cleverly designed with a mezzanine floor for the bedroom. Downstairs has everything you need and overlooks stunning rolling hills with sheep grazing literally feet away. There are guides thoughtfully left for local outings including pub walks through the forest. The owners have clearly spent time researching everything you could possibly want so have done lots of the leg work for their guests! We stayed for three nights but you could easily stay for a week and have plenty to do and see. I would definitely recommend and we are already planning our return!

A lovely place to stay. Cosy and comfortable. It was just what we was looking for. Easy to find and once car was parked there was no need to drive any where. Good walks and cycle paths to follow. We stayed in apartment 1 which had everything we needed. A very quiet and chilled out place for a weekend of biking and walking. Also not far to walk to get food at symonds yat.

Just had three nights at Rock Lodge. It's the perfect place for exploring the area. The accommodation was immaculately clean, spacious, modern and absolutely fit for purpose. Not the 'cosiest' of places we've stayed & the TV signal was intermittent but we didn't go there to sit inside & watch TV tbh!! Perfect for our two dogs too. Would definitely consider a return visit

We booked this particular place as we were able to take our 3 dogs. After reading the description of the apartment and facilities our expectations were very high. On arrival the apartment was immaculate, tea, coffee and sugar were readily available. The Laundry room housed a washer/dryer free of charge. Also fans were provided if required. We stayed in apartment 6. The weather was very warm, and other than the patio doors there were 2 small windows you were able to open. One in the bathroom, the other upstairs in the mezzamine. The communal area was literally outside our patio doors. Due to this it was uncomfortable to leave them open with other guests and their pets outside. There was no privacy. Also the communal area backs on to a field which is easily accessible should your pup want to jump on the wall. The apartment didnt fulfill the expectations it promised. The views were outstanding as promised, as was the access to the forest. Lots of interesting walks which we enjoyed and places to explore.

Room Tip: Lack of privacy at the back of Apartment 6. The main road you cross to gain access to the forest...

Due to the pandemic travel restrictions our honeymoon plans changed from an exotic beach holiday to a staycation. However, on arriving at Symonds Yat Rock Lodge any disappointment we may have been feeling instantly disappeared. The property itself was so cosy & homely with lots of great little touches. The large windows made the most of the spectacular views & it was such a joy to arrive back there every day after our walks. The location was perfect; being right in the forest its canopy offered shelter from the rainy days & we were still able to have some great walks. The viewpoint from Symonds Yat Rock is a must! When the weather did catch us out the lodge offered the perfect haven with all its inviting comforts. We stayed 3 nights & for 2 of those we walked to the New Inn pub which was only 20 mins away & served amazing, reasonably priced food. Lodge owner Claire was so helpful & responsive every time we had any questions & we are so grateful to her & Darren for this gem of a place. We cannot wait to return. Who needs exotic beaches!

We stayed in the twin lodge no 3 for 6 days in August 2020 What a lovely place. Everything you could need to stay self catering. Lovely outlook over the fields. And right across the road from the Forest of Dean. Probably 200 yards from the entrance to Symonds Yat Rock. Ideal for walking in the Forest. We could not fault the accommodation. Plenty of car parking. Near to all places to visit, Monmouth, Ross on Wye, Coleford and perfect for visiting Puzzlewood and Caves and walking.

Having just returned from a two night stay in apartment 4 we wanted to highly recommend a stay here. Apartment was spotless, we wanted for nothing and the view was incredible. We were so impressed by the effort Claire and Darren have gone to to make guests stay comfortable, we found the information book left for us about the area etc etc so helpful and detailed. The area is stunning, symonds yat rock viewpoint most definitely a must a long with a walk down to the river. we will most definitely will be returning.

Had a fantastic safe and relaxed stay in the Forest of Dean staying at this peaceful lodge apartment. Weather great and views from our patio over rolling countryside. Owners made sure everything sterile and supplied all sanitising products too. Thanks to Clare and Darren the owners.

We had a fantastic stay in July. The accommodation is very comfortable and had everything we could have wished for. The outdoor space was stunning and we chose to eat there every night as the views were beautiful. The accommodation is in a great location for walks in the woods and access to Symonds Yat. We will definitely be coming back.

Visited 12th June 2018 for 3 nights. I've been visiting the Rock Lodge since I was a small child with my parents & siblings. We used to love it for the gorgeous views, amazing breakfast and friendly staff. Not having been there in years I decided to visit again last year and although surprised by the changes (b&b rooms having been replaced by 2 new luxury apartments) I can only praise the couple running it. There were so many positive highlights to our trip i couldn't possibly write them all... 1. Having left ours early as AA route planner advised a 4 hour journey (it only took us just over 2 hours) we arrived at 10:30am. Phoned the contact number and asked if it was possible to check-in early (offered to pay extra) the gentleman who answered was nothing but friendly telling us our apartment was ready and we were more than welcome to go to our apartment early at no extra charge. 2. Once we got into the apartment, I was amazed at how clean it was... I work as an accommodation manager on a holiday park in Essex... so it's my job to inspect holiday units before guests arrive for cleanliness/faults and I honestly couldn't find any faults at all in apartment 4. 3. The apartment has a folder with a lot of leaflets from local attractions and eateries which was a god send as I couldn't remember anywhere we used to go when I was a child. 4. One of the owners approached us (I’m so sorry I can’t remember her name) on the second day of our break while we were on our way to the car, simply to check that everything was okay and we were happy, she also advised us that if we needed anything to call (which I thought was a lovely touch). 5. The views surrounding our apartment were amazing. From our front door we could see the Forest of Dean and from the back door we could see Ruardean valley. It really is in a gorgeous spot! Overall the views are amazing, the staff truly are incredible and the apartments are phenomenal and such good value for money. We loved it so much we’re returning in December & bringing a friend!
