This multi-award-winning restaurant in the historic heart of Christchurch is still the only restaurant in Dorset to have been awarded the Bib Gourmand for three consecutive years. Under the culinary supervision of Chef Patron Alex Aitken, one of the South’s most renowned and respected chefs, diners get to taste the region’s finest flavours; Alex and his team make use of the very best seasonal ingredients, all locally-caught, grown or prepared close to Christchurch and the New Forest, and from the waters of the south coast. Signature (and highly recommended!) dishes include twice-baked cheese soufflé, The Kings Arms prawn cocktail, fish & chips, and The Kings Arms burger. Aside from the extensive a la carte menu, the chefs offer their ever-popular 'Market Menu’, a 2 or 3-course set menu using only using locally-sourced, seasonal ingredients and on Fridays, ‘Fizz n Chips’.

We were coming to Christchurch for a wedding and stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. I can honestly say this was one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. The staff were delightful, every single one we met went out of their way to be helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Jennifer on Reception was particularly friendly and informative. Our room was lovely, beautifully furnished, a very large and comfortable bed, all amenities anyone could need and a great view over the Priory. We had dinner on the night before the wedding which was superb with an interesting menu. We both had fish and our waiter recommended a rose wine which was a perfect accompaniment. Again the service was professional and friendly, as was the very good breakfast. We will definitely return for a longer visit.

Situated, in front of the river overlooking the old convent, we decided to pop in for a drink. From the outset we were extremely impressed, there was waiter service only, hand sanitiser on every single table and on the bar before you entered. Tables were situated at a good distance from one another. For lunch we had crab & avocado sandwich with skinny fries - thoroughly recommended. I had a ‘out of the office cocktail’ (if you like mojito’s you should like this) and my partner had the Argentinian Malbec. We thought the prices were reasonable and the food and drinks very tasty. Not to mention the friendly and professional service, good atmosphere and clean toilets. Therefore we decided to book for dinner the same night. Dinner there was a wide selection, we chose the 3 course set meal £20.95 each. From that menu we had starter: crispy chicken, mango & prawns, main: roast beef, dessert: lemon meringue cheesecake and chocolate brownie sundae. All food was very tasty, well presented, again great service we couldn’t fault it. Drinks we had a bottle of the Argentine Malbec £29.95. The safety measures were all in place for covid-19 including staff cleaning ni down tables and chairs between sitting, but non of the detracted from the full dining experience. Interior decor very nice. Thoroughly recommend eating / drinking here. We also met a couple who were staying there who said the rooms were lovely and the price very reasonable.

Lovely hotel in the heart of Christchurch. We stayed in a cute loftroom on the 3rd floor. We were right next to the lift & my first thought was it's going to be noisy but this was not the case. The hotel had hand sanitiser on every table, dispensers inside & outside the room. Breakfast was staggered between 7am - 10am & everything was bought to us at our table by staff who only too happy to help! This was our first trip away since social distancing was introduced & we had a relaxed break & felt totally safe at all times. We would definitely stay here again & highly recommend this hotel.

The Kings is a stylish and intimate hotel which combines genuine warmth and friendliness with very professional service. From the spotless and luxurious rooms to the wonderful bar and dining areas this is a place you will want to linger in, and find reasons to spend time at

Dining is first rate, with all dishes presented with great imagination, I don't think it would ever be possible to get bored of the breakfast combinations. Without exception the Kings Arms team are wonderful, the perfect combination of formal and familiar - that's the way to make guests feel welcome and valued. The only outstanding question with the Kings Arms is when you will be able to plan your next visit for - for us soon I hope!

We have just returned from a break at The Kings Arms Hotel in Christchurch, Dorset where we have stayed a number of times over the last eight years. It’s been really interesting to see how it has developed over time. This time we were staying for four days to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary. We cannot speak highly enough about the hotel, and the refurbishments which are striking really enhance the bar and restaurant area. The Restaurant Manager (?) Jan was very friendly and on hearing that we were celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary arranged a special treat during one of our dinners! Also his advice and knowledge of the best wines to accompany our meal was a bonus. The food at this hotel always excels, and on having the Alex Aitken trademark twice cooked cheese soufflé, I remembered how good it had been on previous occasions and it was still the same!
All the staff were so polite and friendly. The hotel felt very Covid safe with temperature checks on entry as well as hand gel on every table in bars and restaurants. We always choose a room overlooking the Priory and this week we had a larger room than we remembered having before on the 1st floor. Would suggest you ask for a Priory room on the second floor if you don’t want to hear music from the restaurant below though from breakfast through to close of dinner. Not a huge problem for us but was conscious of it.
All in all this is a great hotel (part of the Harbour Hotel group) and we look forward to a return visit!

Friendly and attentive staff who genuinely want to help you (chefs and managers all seemed to chip in with checking you were being looked after - really good service!!), a prime location in the town, a spacious room that was spotlessly clean and very comfortable with all amenities, including a fridge with complimentary bottles of water, and beautiful large windows which afforded a pretty view over the ruins and bowling green.
Breakfasts were high quality and served very well, the decor was stylish and up to date, there was very little noise from neighbouring rooms - there is music downstairs of an evening in their restaurant and bar but it didn't go on too late thankfully.
Other than wishing it had an outdoor seating area for drinks, we can't really fault this place and would certainly recommend to anyone and return to stay if we're visiting the area again. Even their hand sanitiser which was on every table smelled lovely. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Mr Swallocks and I were married here in 2015 (a fantastic an memorable day) and returned here for a celebratory Valentine's lunch.

The food was absolutely excellent. Haddock risotto with poached eggs was delicious and the steak was done to perfection.

The little Swallocks were well-catered for, with a wide range of smaller dishes.

The décor seems to be refreshed every two or three years and as a result the establishment retains a clean and fresh appearance that complements the welcome form the staff.

I can't recommend this place enough.

Great location with a fantastic walk down to the quay on your doorstep. The little town had plenty of places to eat or shop for anything you might need.
Parking is a little on the short side with a layby opposite and a back car park but we did always manage to park ok. Just double park in the lay-by and go into the hotel to ask. All the staff are very friendly and helpful and will do their best to sort out your needs. They all seem to fulfill various roles from checking you in to fixing you a drink.

Lovely hotel with plenty of comfortable seating and we enjoyed a drink in the bar each evening, chatting to the bar staff. Jan and the bar team were happy to chat between serving cocktails. Drinks incurred a 10% service charge.

We were in room 101 overlooking the priory which was large and airy, with table and chairs, a sofa, massive bed and a fridge. There was some noise from the road and if you are a light sleeper, maybe pick a room at the back of the hotel, overlooking the parking courtyard. These also seemed well proportioned. Bathroom was large with nice toiletries, especially the body lotion. Our only issue was that the quilt was too warm for summer. It would be nice if hotels popped a sheet on the bed when it is warm as we ended up sleeping with a robe on top of us.

Our safe didn’t work and was not fixed during our stay. They did attend to the bathroom fan and bedside light as soon as we mentioned that they needed attention.

Whilst there, we went to Bournemouth, Poole to do a boat trip and Durdle Door. The New Forest is also close.

Highly enjoyable and recommended.

Our first stay at the Kings Arms Hotel, part of the Harbour group of hotels. The hotel is situated in the middle of Christchurch, providing not only walking access to all that Christchurch has to offer commercially but also to the Norman ruins, Christchurch quay and river walks.

We were warmly welcomed at reception, and during our stay we found all the hotel staff to be very welcoming, friendly, caring and professional. We were always made to feel very welcome.
We were most grateful for the nominated car parking space at the rear of the hotel.

Our very good quality room was of a good size and very well presented. The room was located at the rear of the hotel which proved to be an advantage as it was very quiet. Under the COVID-19 restrictions and circumstances the house keeping was most welcomed and very efficient. Though we were very pleased with our room access to the shower over the bath was difficult due to the impressive depth of the bath, not very easy when you are of mature years with restrictive movement.

A very informal and relaxed dining environment. Excellent food supported by polite and very attentive staff. Very good all round service.

More than happy to recommend this hotel, but with one slight reservation, hotel car parking is very restrictive and could prove to be a problem.

We recently visited The Kings for dinner and it was a 5 star experience. We made the most of the eat out to help out scheme and visited lots of local places in the area, sadly we missed out on Kings at this time so we knew we had to get a table booked for our next place to visit.
The team are so attentive to their own and their customers safety. Out of all of the places in Christchurch this is the place I felt safest. Everyone is in protective visors, hand sanatizers at every table etc. If Boris needs a blue print for other restaurants and bars to follow they should take a leaf out of these guys book. Not only were their safety measures adhered to by staff it was an atmosphere where majority of the customers seemed to be following all their systems.
Now to the food and drink, because my goodness was it out of this world! The menu here is so well thought out, there is so much local choice and the blackboard specials are irresistible. We've been to lots of Harbour properties and this is by far our favourite, I can't believe their only three stars. All of the food is perfectly seasoned, the flavour combinations are so complimentary you can tell the Chef's are passionate about quality.
As locals we've visited Kings many a time and over the last few years we've had mixed experiences, having heard about their refurb pre-lock down and I presume a new management it's clear they have poured a lot of love and passion in to turn this place around. Personally I think the level of service, atmosphere and friendly staff make this one of the best experiences around Dorset.
We're already looking at our diaries to work out when we can look forward to coming back! Thank you for a truly memorable experience.
