Visited this lovely hotel when Coved19 restrictions in place, for three nights. Booked direct with the hotel and was offered three night for the price of two, great result when not expecting it. I was made aware on booking that breakfast would be served to our room on a tray and staff would not enter our room. It was in fact delivered in a wicker basket and was full of a good continental style breakfast. It included cereals, fruit, lovely fresh rolls and pastries, fresh orange juice, coffee and fresh milk. A good start to the day. With the safety measures in place, our rooms were not serviced, but again we knew that at booking. We had dinner in their restaurant on the Saturday and that was excellent. Highcliff Castle is a short walk away, with access to the beach and nature reserve. Castle was not open, no charge to go into the grounds. Parking is rather expensive, but do pay the fee, a ticket warden goes round every 30 minutes, lots of fines issued.

ncredible NO.1 wedding venue must
The lord Bute was perfect for our wedding. All of the staff are brilliant and really make you feel special and will do everything in their power to ensure you have a good time. OMG the food is incredible soooo tasty everyone was complimenting the food on how beautiful it was the best meal we’ve had and to offer a menu choice on the day for a wedding is brilliant couldn’t have been more perfect.
The attention to detail they put into everything they do is the icing on the cake which made our day feel that much more special setting it all up and making it pure perfection.
I’ve got to say Christopher at the Lord Bute is a different class never let us worry about anything making sure everything was planned and organised to a tee.
I would more than highly recommend The Lord Bute to anyone for any occasion especially weddings worth every penny thank you soo much for making our day that all bit more special and stress free .

Finally the rooms were impeccable so clean and tidy fresh smelling and highly decorated we had the garden suite and WOW I honestly have never been so satisfied with a room It’s just perfect for those pre wedding prep shots and the bed and sofas are soo comfy I would say to anyone for an occasion or not go here for just food or stay or plan your occasion you will not be let down will be certainly uploading pics when they arrive

We have just finished a weekend break here and it has been wonderful. We were warmly greeted on arrival and shown to our room which was a lovely touch. The rooms are clean and modern whilst still having a sense of historic charm. Breakfast is wonderful with a great selection of food on offer depending on whether you fancy a cooked breakfast, cereal, toast, yoghurt, fruit etc. The staff couldn’t do enough for you and really took great care to ensure your stay was amazing throughout. Would highly recommend and hopefully will return soon.

Location wise it’s conveniently located about 20mins walk to the nearby station from which you can get the train to Poole in 40mins with stops in Bournemouth etc along the way. A taxi back from Bournemouth cost us £20 which was reasonable. Mudeford/Avon Beach is about 8mins drive away with plenty of water sports, crabbing and food choices along with beautiful coastal walks.

We pre- booked a new year's eve one night bed and breakfast with an evening four course meal for two. The cost £360 without drinks.
Reception and our welcome from Louise were excellent. The room was well appointed but no hand towels were provided. The hot tap in the sink needed attention and, for a formal occasion, there was no full length mirror.
The four course dinner menu was very good. Dinner commenced at 7pm but when we placed our order we specifically asked the staff to stagger the courses so as not to have each arriving with no time between. This was a five hour lead up to midnight. The service began and three courses were served in rapid succession, exactly what we did not want!! The waiter then had the cheek to say 'give me a nod' when you are ready for the last course. The food was good but spoilt somewhat by the rapid service, which seemed totally to the chef's advantage and not the customer!
A 10% service charge on the drinks bill simply added insult to injury.
The entertainment consisted of a saxophonist- who was good and a disco run by a lack lustre character who seemed unable to get the party going, probably because he spent too much time talking to the saxophonist. When he did eventually get on the 'mike' and talk to the audience it was probably too late.I have never had the misfortune to witness a D'J as poor as this
Breakfast was good both well cooked and good service.

I would like to emphasise that this review is about the Lord Bute Suite only and is no reflection on the staff that we came into contact with.
Sadly, what was supposed to be a special birthday treat, turned into a very different story and the Lord Bute suite which we had booked to stay for three nights is most certainly not “luxurious comfort”, nor is it “Stylishly designed or fully equipped with everything you would expect to ensure a blissful night’s sleep” as the website would have you believe.
We arrived to find a hideous musty smell in the lounge and bedroom, dated decor, dirty shower and drawers with stained lining paper for our clothing!! The numerous heaters/de-humidifiers in the lounge and bedroom are a bit of a giveaway and we tried to open all the windows in order to get rid of the smell. This began to make a difference upstairs but all windows downstairs had been painted so that they couldn’t be opened. We ended up buying air freshener from the supermarket and eating take away food in the lounge with the front door open!!
We complained the next morning (I would have left sooner if we could have) and checked out. We booked a three star hotel in Sidmouth which was clean and fresh and far more comfortable than our alleged five star suite at the Bute.
The owner/manager had understandably been contacted by the reception staff and we believe was on site when we left. A simple gesture of coming to speak to us, apologise and have a look at the suite himself would have been a professional and courteous thing to do......sadly, he had no contact with us at all, leaving us with nothing but a bad impression of the management attitude. We would not book again or recommend.

My sister and I stayed one evening and enjoyed our stay very much. Would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. The staff were very helpful our evening meal was excellent and breakfast was a hamper which had high quality produce inside and lots of it.
The only negative remark I would like to say is that for a 5 star hotel it would have been nice to have someone to help with luggage on arrival and departure especially when people are disabled.

We recently stayed for 1 night in The Coach House as a family of 4. We booked last minute with 40% off via Expedia.
The Coach House is positioned at the front of the hotel, next to a busy road. Traffic noise can be easily heard with windows shut.
Room in general is tired. In need of redecoration. Ancient TV. Ancient fan provided! (It wasn’t needed and looks awful). Sofa bed uncomfortable for 2 people as dips in middle due to age.
Stair carpet in need of a clean.
Kitchen floor tiles cracked. Crockery dusty, not clean. Small amount of tea/coffee provided in bowls that needed cleaning. UHT milk cartons.
Cracked floor tiles in bathroom, old grout visible throughout. Toilet pan not clean.
Breakfast was very good. Cooked beautifully.
Staff very friendly.
Informed after booking that restaurant not open on a Monday.
We would rate this a 3 star hotel. Certainly not luxurious as the description says. May look so in pictures but very disappointed on arrival.
Luckily we had a much cheaper rate than the £170 normal charge. The breakfast, friendly staff, only staying for 1 night, meant that we didn’t complain at the time.

To start, the Lord Bute is not a five star hotel, it's a five star GUEST accomodation, which is very different. Looking up the requirements for star ratings, this is the equivalent of a TWO star hotel!
Very very misleading, on Google and and hotel booking pages is listed as a Five star luxury hotel.
Not sure where the luxury part comes in either as our room was very small and dated.
The bed and pillows were incredibly uncomfortable, in the end I used a folded up jumper to sleep on. My wife and I were so disappointed as we had Two nights here.
Avoid room 109 If you can, as this must be above a generator or something, very loud hum non stop.
The restaurant is a two AA Rosette, so we were looking forward to trying this for breakfast.
The choice was a full English or cereal.
We asked for a vegetarian breakfast and that consisted of the full English with the meat removed leaving a plate of beans, egg and mushrooms. No meat replacements or other hot options on the menu. Again looking up the requirements for a rosette award this didn't even make one.
On a positive, the evening meal staff were brilliant, they were very efficient, friendly and attentive. The evening meal was good for the meat eaters, the vegetarians not so much.
There is a very nice pub/restaurant right next door that does lunch and evening menus, where we ended up going.

It's concerning that a company can intentionally mislead people with false advertising and be allowed to get away with it.
If you're looking for a 5* luxury hotel this isn't for you. But if you're looking for a 2* hotel at 5* star prices then this is the place for you.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We must say that we do not falsely advertise our business, we always state five star Guest accommodation as awarded by the AA… this of course is reflected in our pricing, which would be considerably greater if a 5 star hotel. We genuinely do not receive complaints about the comfort of our beds, nor the quality of our food. I feel that your expectations were for a 5 star hotel and therefore our small boutique accommodation would not have met those expectations. Our pricing policy at Lord Bute reflects the standard of the hotel and other comparative venues in the area. For a reality check, the nearby Chewton Glen Hotel is a 5 star hotel with rooms averaging around £650 per night. I am sure they will welcome you on your next visit to the area.

We booked to stay here on Saturday 11th July for one night...£180 we paid for this shocking room, it was a disgrace for a 5 star hotel!! I’ve stayed in far better places than this at a lower star rating.

Where do I start..

Filthy dirty room throughout, thick dirty old dust.
Spiders hanging from cobwebs
Dirty crockery in bathroom
Toilet thick in dust and dirty, cracked tiles
Coffee all out of date and empty sachets June 2020
Out of date milk 20 June 2020
No air conditioning and Dyson machine didn’t work.
Loose headboard, not fixed properly to wall.
Dirty bed sheets
Dirty grubby bath where it’s not been cleaned
Biscuit crumbs on the floor
Biscuits out of date March 2020

Considering the circumstances with the COVID 19 you expect to have these rooms up together at a very high standard with each room having a deep clean..

My husband reported this all to CHRIS, and he was apologetic, but that still doesn’t rectify the star rating of the hotel.

When we complained about the room how filthy it was Chris came to us with two crossaints, two coffee sachets, two tea bags, and two gronola bags..I mean seriously, why would we want this at 6pm!! All we wanted was to move room
Or even fact not stay here and have our full money back which we asked for and he assured us that he would look after us!! The place is a joke and you should be ashamed of yourselves, I will be reporting this to automobile association with the images attached and I’m hoping they will look at this and rethink the rating for this hotel.

We booked to eat in your hotel and this was very good, the food was brilliant..

We wasted are money here and I will definitely not be coming back.

We travelled to Christchurch for a family funeral and booked into another hotel; along with other family members, for the night before. Although we planned to stay for 3 nights in all we discovered that our initial hotel only had availability for one night which meant looking for alternative accommodation for the other two. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise because what a gem we found in the Lord Bute.

We ate in the Lord Bute restaurant after booking in, and invited two relations who were still staying at the original hotel to join us. The staff were so friendly and genuinely couldn’t do enough for us. We decided to make a dinner reservation on the second night and discovered that it was a Jazz Evening. Every table was occupied, with a few large groups who looked to be regulars, with everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves. Once again the food was excellent.

I can genuinely say that the staff were fabulous; they were helpful, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Despite the fact that they were working flat out, they still had time to chat and make sure that we had everything we needed.

We had a standard en suite which was everything we could have wished for, and more. Comfortable beds, fluffy towels and instant hot water. At breakfast on the first day we mentioned that we would like a rubber bath mat, and on returning to our room, there it was.

We left feeling that we were part of the family, a very happy family; and I would have no hesitation in recommending the Lord Bute to anyone looking for a really special hotel in the Christchurch area.
