Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Manager wasn't at all helpful. The place was a bit cold. Room was clean but in need of little TLC. Breakfast boxes. Shame as this used to be a decent place to go. Parking behind hotel was rough, uneven area. The place lacked character. But don't give up. Maybe it's going through a process of hange.

Paint flaking off walls, mold in bathroom, TV only had half the screen working, paper thin walls - could hear everything from the room next door, doors constantly slamming, no hot water, bar downstairs was so slow - more than 15 minutes for the woman behind the bar to make a coffee!

Nice old hotel badly managed but somehow the current management seem to THINK furnishing it to resemble an IKEA catalogue is a whizz bang thing to do - NO. The lovely old place furnished right and with a management that understood their clientele, it would be a winner, but alas it cheap and seem to think chip in a bucket is the way to go.

Hotel is old and run down with mismatched decor. The staff were lovely and the hotel ‘clean’ but in great need of some upgrading in the rooms. Seems alot of effort has gone into making the general areas look ‘grand’ with no attention on the rooms. Breakfast was a shambles with one very slow toaster. Waited for almost an hour for a cooked breakfast which to be fair was decent when it came. Paid extra for breakfast which was a bit of a cheek considering the price of a very basic and shabby room.

Strange place to stay with 2 different parties in the same building. The accommodation is operated by one team and the Dining room and bar is run under Macnabs. I arrived early to greeted by a notice that check in was at 4pm which was on my documentation. Just surprised that there wasn't a single person there with a hotel of this size. Unfortunately when I did see my room it had a number of problems. The bathroom was in need of a clean and some maintenance. Shaver socket light not working water stain stains mould around bath rim. Bath / Shower change over knob missing operated by lifting remaining screw head. In the room. Unable to open one window as has no pulley rope fitted. Overhead bed light not functioning Head Stains above headboard.

Really poor. I reported a sash cord broken so we had to prop the window open with a shoe! And a crack in a wash basin. The guy on the desk was not interested! The Wi-Fi did not work. The main light bulb was blown. There was black mould between the tiles in the shower. The TV did not work - possible dead battery in the remote.

Just had a great stay at the Dreadnought hotel Callander, staff very helpful and friendly MacNabs bar restaurant ,attached to the hotel is good value the locals use this bar which to me means its a good place to eat and drink. the hotel is old but very clean beds were a little soft for my liking can't please everyone. Very well situated close to park and river Teith for lovely walks plenty of coffee shops bus stop only about 30 meters away travel to Killin, or Stirling if you don't want to drive. a lovey hotel if your passing through or just want a a day or two to relax and chill. I would recommend this hotel

This is not the best place to stay as it is very basic. It is in a desperate state of disrepair and requires a lot of work throughout the hotel areas and the rooms. Everything needs to be updated but I fear the place has gone too far in the wrong direction as the cost to even just make it presentable will be too great. The hotel is located in a great part of the town of Callander and is close to all the amenities. It does benefit by providing free parking at the rear of the building for all of its guests. Unfortunately, if you do park your vehicle there, you are able to spot quite clearly lots of signs as to just how run down this hotel actually is. There is no free parking in the centre of Callander at all but there is plenty of parking available at a cost. The hotel does not provide a breakfast but there is an option to have a breakfast at MacNabs. This is a seperate business to the hotel but it shares the bottom floor of the hotel and the cooked breakfast option we had was excellent and very fairly priced.

The weirdest blend of Chinese and Scottish interior. The beds were too soft. very expensive breakfast and no people in the restaurant which speaks for itself. The tabs in the bathroom was faulty. Uneven floors. Weird staircases.

While I understand the impact Covid and the employee shortage has had, it disturbs me that this business continues to advertise features that it no longer has. The restaurant has been closed for months (maybe years). The bar was not open, and when I asked when it might be open again, no one seemed to know. I was traveling alone, and in part chose this hotel because having an on-site bar and restaurant would make my life easier. The wifi didn’t work in my 2nd floor room, and when I asked about it, I was told it doesn’t work at the front desk either (as if that should satisfy my concerns). The room was okay - the bed and bathroom were clean, and the bed was reasonably comfortable, BUT there were dozens of spiders - some dead, most not so dead. I know it’s spider season, but still. The staff were not unpleasant, but they seemed largely indifferent to my presence. The location is great, and the price was reasonable, but I don’t feel it’s right to advertise a hotel with bar, restaurant, and internet, when in fact none of those are actually provided at the present time.
