Callander Hostel is ideally located within the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, just a short drive from Stirling. This makes it a great base for exploring the beauty of the surrounding area - whether by foot, by bike or by car. The town of Callander has two small supermarkets as well as a selection of cafes, restaurants and pubs. The hostel is run as a social enterprise, with profits helping to support young people in the local area. In light of the ongoing Covid-19 situation, shared dormitories are not currently available. There are a variety of different room configurations available for private hire (all of which are en-suite). Additional cleaning protocols have been introduced throughout the building a new self check-in procedure has been implemented. All guests are encouraged to make use of the various hand sanitising stations that can be found around the premises. For those who still want to make of them, the hostel’s communal areas (kitchen and lounge) have been reconfigured to facilitate social distancing and reduce shared items. Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I visted during restrictions on the hospitality industry but things were arranged so that we were all as safe as possible. My ensuite bedoom was a very generous size, with a great view. This hostel is just perfect for anyone stopping off in Callander. There is self-catering if you wish, which is handy for lots of travellers.

Very Welcoming and helpful staff. Warm rooms upstairs in cold February, bit cooler downstairs, all the facilities that you need. Good access to Csllander and lots to do around and about. I would recommend.

We are just home from a fantastic weekend in one of your Pods! Beautifully decked out with everything we needed! Stunning view of Ben Ledi across the meadows. Thank you to the team for being on hand when required. We will definitely be returning!

I have stayed in many hostels and this one is definately over rated. We were given a number for the box to collect our key and a code for the front door (both written on a piece of paper) on arrival. We were given no information, there was no indication that there was a drying room. When I rang to book I was told that we could have use of the kitchen, but was not told that it contained absolutely no crockery, cutlery, pans etc, so was completely useless. I found out in the morning as we were leaving (from someone else staying in the hostel) that you have to rent a box of these. All bedrooms were on the top floor, and ours had two windows. One was completely jammed shut and we manage to open the other about 1cm. Not sure what we would do in a fire as there apeared to be only one staircase down.

Review of main hostel, not the pods which looked excellent.
Good location, friendly staff on arrival and great garden space for relaxing...however I wouldn't stay in the main hostel again...clean room and shower facilities but the room window opened only a couple of cms but when shut blocked out none of the noise from the cars passing directly in front of the building until well after midnight. The kitchen was well-equipped and the common space large and clean.
The main negative was the comfort of the bed. I'm not particularly heavy at 75kg but when lying on my side I could feel each mattress spring to the point where I considered getting my camping mattress and lying on the floor. For context the previous night I'd wild-camped and slept much better.
The hostel is run by a social enterprise which I'd love to continue to support but not until they improve the beds!

Great place, staff very helpful in these challenging times. Very clean and welcoming. Would stay again and recommend. Didn't really get to see hostel operating in normal capacity because of Covid, so would like to see what facilities they have when fully operational.

We just arrived (around 22.00 hours) searching for a hostel nearby Stirling. Nobody at the desk. Some phone number you could ring for the staff. Phone not available. Nobody answered. Everything was still open and we could almost steal every thing from the reception. We left a note telling that we were there. Not amused at all we left and gone too the main street. There is a b&b for 55 ponds twin bed room without breakfast. Place is called The Dreadnought Hotel. Much better. Thanks for nothing hostel callander.
I have to give st least one star but even that is not worthy.

Thank you for taking the time to review Callander Hostel. I'm sorry there was no-one to meet you when you arrived, I can imagine that was the last thing you needed after travelling. We run a 24 hour reception however, as you can understand, our staff have 28 other guests to attend to and on such occasions when they are not able to be at reception then we give you a number to call their mobile phone. It was unfortunate that you were unable to get through to our Hostel Host. Furthermore, we never received your note. We have had over 2,000 visitors through Callander Hostel since we opened on the 12th June 2014 and I can confidently say this is the first time someone has been unable to get hold of our Hostel Host. Please be assured that I will look into it and let me say I am glad you were able to find alternative accommodation. Chris

My sister and I stayed in the twin room which is bright, spacious and very comfortable with lovely views. The cushion on the bed was a lovely touch ..and nearly went home with us. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hostel is centrally located and just a two minute walk to the main street. Breakfast was plentiful and very filling.
Not your typical hostel and we'll be back

Visit Scotland has given this Hostel 5 stars but I don't think that is justified. The beds are comfortable and the hostel is clean with pleasant public areas.
The kitchen is small and lacks some things - e.g. only one small dishtowel supplied and only one cleaning pad for dishes. Some of the pans are worn.
Having to ask to have the drying room unlocked is a nuisance as theoretically reception opens at 8 a.m. though there was someone on duty before that when I wanted away early.
The hand-basin in the bathroom was tiny and you almost hit the glass shelf when bending forward to wash your face!
Surprisingly the cafe was shut when I visited.
All staff were friendly, helpful and very hardworking as there only ever seemed to be one person on at any time

We had booked one night at the hostel and were very pleasantly surprised . We were shown to our en- suite double room by the friendly hostel staff and found a spacious room full of character . The ceilings were very high and yes , the "upstairs " second window didn't have curtains so the sunlight came in early but as we are early risers this didn't bother us . The beds were very comfortable . The staff were very friendly and the hostel has a good atmosphere and facilities . It is also run by a youth charity so by staying there you are helping a good cause . I would thoroughly recommend it .

Thank you for taking the time to review Callander Hostel, I'm pleased to hear you found the staff helpful and the beds comfortable. We have discussed how best to block out the light from the dormer windows and our solution was to offer eye masks from reception however we find many people come to the Trossachs to rise early and seize the day. We look forward to welcoming you back. Best, Chris
