Down by the dunes in Bude, you'll discover one of Cornwall's newest hotels - Tommy Jacks. A throwback to when surfers were kings and skaters ruled the world, Tommy Jacks is quite possibly, the grooviest urban beach hotel, bar and restaurant on the Cornish coast. The 21 cheery, pocket-friendly snooze pads are neat, nautical and available from January 2014. In the meantime you can earn your seaside stripes in the family-friendly Sea Jacks Restaurant and cosy brewpub. Just a stone's throw from Bude-iful Crooklets Beach, they're the ultimate surfside HQ.

Great holiday set up. We had a lovely good sized apartment with well equipped kitchen, lounge with large TV, nice sized double bedroom and en-suite bathroom. Rooms were clean, well appointed and comfortable. Well positioned by Crooklets beach and car park it’s ideal. Dog friendly, with free WiFi and one of the most helpful / friendly owners in James. We will definitely be back. Thanks

Everything was great, Great size, well-equipped, lovely bedding and bed. Great food delivery service. The only little quibble is..... that if it had been warmer weather! due to sash windows and being on the ground floor, especially with people sat on the terrrace, it was not possible to leave a window open either during the night or if out during the day. So the room was very stuffy. Perhaps some sort of ventilation unit and a fan could help with that. We left the bathroom extractor on but it was noisy at night. Thank-you

Stayed for 2 nights in early Feb 2023, Great location, fabulous food (Breakfast was brilliant and dinner also very good) and drink. Hotel room (standard double) quite small and over priced for time of year (out of season).

We loved our stay at Tommy Jacks. The apartment was perfect for us, two double bedrooms with en-suite in both, and a nice kitchen and sitting area. All very clean, comfortable and light. It’s a 1 minute walk the gorgeous beach with a couple of cafes/bars. Tommy Jacks has a nice bar with a good selection of reasonably priced food and drinks and friendly staff. It’s a 15 walk into Bude, or a little longer if you take the coast route. Would definitely come back again.

Great Location, great apartment thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Will recommend to our friends and family. Good all round for views, walks restaurants and shops. 200m from the beach and overlooking a golf course. The owners went over and above to help us. Thankyou.

This review is for the ground floor, 1 bedroom apartment. Initially, the apartment is very spacious and nicely designed. The kitchen and living are was large and great for cooking and the apartment was clean. Unfortunately, on the second night of our stay, we realised none of the windows had been locked. Of course, this is a major concern as we were on the ground floor at the front of the property and all of the windows were more than large enough for people to exit and enter, which we tried and tested. We should have checked the windows earlier, however, as we hadn't opened them at all, we would have expected the apartment to be secured before our arrival. Very disappointed with this and did not feel safe or secure with leaving our electronics when we left the apartment. After going round and making sure all of the windows were secure, we realised one of them didn't even have a lock and so had to spend another night with the apartment open. We emailed the contact and did have a nice man sent out to us to fix it the next day. However, we did not receive any kind of apology that the apartment had been given to us completely unsecure? We would have expected the owners to be a little more concerned as their flat screen TV was hanging on the wall for anyone to see, however, they were clearly unbothered. We also noted a couple of things which would have been nice to have upon arrival. We understand the accommodation is self-catered, however, as we have just been in a pandemic, hand soap in the bathroom wouldn't have gone amiss as well as a hand towel which we were very surprised had not been provided? We were disappointed to find an iron had not been supplied but a docking station had? The apartment described the TV as a Smart TV. Please note, this is a lie, the TV was flat screen, however was not a Smart TV. We did not realise the accommodation was next to a restaurant and the entrance is the same entrance to the eating area. This means that the main entrance to the apartments is left open all day, which considering the earlier security concern, was not very comforting. Luckily, we did not notice noise or smells which was good because the kitchen door is separate and left open at all times whilst staff are cooking. This kitchen door is opposite to the ground floor apartment which was a little too close for comfort. We bought cleaning supplies, toilet rolls and dishwasher tablets which I hope the owners leave for the next couple to use as we would have found it very helpful to have there.

This review is for the Tommy Jacks 1st floor Apartment (Apt 2) for 6 people not the hotel. The apartments are in the same building as the hotel. The accommodation definitely has its good and bad points. On the plus side, it’s a great location (which you already know and is probably why you booked it). Parking off season is usually available just outside the building but if not, usually plenty of room on the street, or free parking in the public car park across the way after 6pm. The apartment was clean and all the booking information and instructions were clear and accurate. The property has a very small kitchen and it would not be possible to cook for 6 in a kitchen so small - we struggled to do a bit of breakfast for 3! But it is well equipped (you will need to bring your own coffee machine though). Microwave, oven, grill, small hob and extractor fan/hood all work well as do the dishwasher and fridge (which has a small ice box). There were only four forks though so if you are a party of more than four, you will need to bring some cutlery. Plenty of plates, glasses, mugs. There are no cupboards for storing food but there is a butchers trolley you can use to put things on. There was a teatowel provided as well as washing up sponge, a cloth, washing up liquid, and one tab for the dishwasher and one tab for the washing machine. Washer and separate dryer were located downstairs in the laundry - both new and efficient machines - free to use - although I may have chosen a long cycle as it seemed to take an age to run a cotton 40 degree wash. Dog washing room with dog bath is located in a separate room in the laundry and is excellent.Vacuum and floor cleaning equipment stored in the very small kitchen so a little inconvenient but there really wasn’t anywhere else to store them to be fair. Bathrooms - these were the low point really. Although the booking information says “no towels are provided” this turned out to be not the case - which was irritating as I’d taken up quite a lot of packing space bringing 3 large bath towels. There were no hand towels provided though. No shelves in bathrooms so nowhere to keep bathroom items, no heaters in the bathrooms so towels did not dry before next use. No hooks on which to hang said towels. Showers were a bit lame (not powerful at all) so required a bit of running around in the the bath tub or shower cubicle in order to get wet. The water was lovely and hot though 99% of the time. The living room is pleasant enough - sofas not wildly comfortable. The “Smart TV” was not smart - no smart hub so no catchup tv or streaming apps available. Bring a laptop and HDMI lead. The dining table is very very small for 6. Better for 3. Bedrooms - The third bedroom did not have a TV as advertised (“all bedrooms have TVs”) and is also very very small. The second bedroom is not much larger. The main bedroom was very large - but the heater in there did not work at all - I emailed the owners on the first day to ask them to get it fixed as it made the bedroom really cold - but I did not get an answer. So a freezing cold bedroom, no heater in the bathroom, wet towels - made things a less pleasant than they could have been. Heaters in the other bedrooms and the living room worked ok. Beds were ok - quite firm - duvets seem thin on first look but they are warm enough (other than in the very cold main bedroom!). There was a distinct lack of soft lighting - none of the bedrooms had lamps - only the main light or tiny reading lights attached to the headboard. There was one floor lamp in the living room. Overall, the apartment has a very “studenty” feel - all the doors self close (which is inconvenient, anti-social and also dangerous for any pets staying with you - I would recommend bringing or buying doorstops as we did to wedge the doors open). The furnishings are quite basic and sparse - would be good to have some hooks on the bedroom and bathroom doors, some lamps in the bedrooms etc. Windows were quite dirty so looking out over the lovely view of Bude and the sea was masked a little. There are plenty of coat hooks in the corridor which was useful. There is only one key provided so you will have to make use of the key press outside the front door if you wish to have people coming and going at different times. If you are a surfer and looking for simple accommodation close to the beach then it will suit you better than a family looking for a comfortable stay.

We stayed here for a week in October. The location could not have been better, so close to the beach and the coastal path, which is exactly what we wanted. Also a couple of really good cafes and restaurants within walking distance. The apartment was for 6, however there was only 4 of us and felt the kitchen was far to small even for us. It lacked basic equipment eg clothes horse for drying. The TVs kept going off with lack of signal and in October when it’s dark outside you do need a tv. We didn’t feel it secure to use the drying room downstairs as the outside door was always left open and I didn’t want to leave my wetsuit where anyone could walk in and take it. There was a bar downstairs meaning in the evenings there were more people coming in off the street, this was never mentioned in the details when we booked. The parking which was supposed to be only for apartment guests was used by the takeaway food people and the builders working next door. Sadly I wouldn’t book these apartments again, but I would stay somewhere else in the same location.

Stayed here for one week the end of September for my birthday. Arrived and was a little disappointed by the look of the place, but once in our ground floor apartment no1 it was fantastic. It was like a brand new huge flat, couldn't ask for more. Perfwct location with its own bar called rum and chicken and also was like new.had great coast walk and canal walks right on the door step. Nice restaurants, we ate in the DECK very nice food also ate in SEA FEAVER (well recommended) NEED TO BOOK WELL IN ADVANCE. Padstow is 1 hr away. Only a couple of negative points ...water pressure was low and the temperature wasn't hot enough. Apart from that we couldn't fault it will be keeping it in mind for future visits.
