We were very disappointed to not be informed that the pool was being refurbished and not offered a discount as I have read that other guests received. However this is a lovely site and a great set up for families.
The cottages are well-equipped and we had both a washing machine and tumble dryer in ours and a lovely private garden with washing line and an outdoor tap for wetsuits.
It does feel like you are being transported back to the early 90s in terms of decor, the VHS tapes to borrow and the state of some of the facilities but the site itself is tidy and it’s nice to have lots of facilities on your doorstep.
It’s really close to Widemouth Bay which has great surf and very strict lifeguard support. The parking charges are more reasonable locally than in North Devon and there are plenty of shops and supermarkets nearby.
This makes for an lovely, easy and relaxing family holiday but requires some updating and facilities to be open to make it the luxury site that is described on the website.

We booked at quite short notice as we wanted a break with the family.
Check in was straightforward, we were met by a member of staff on arrival who showed us to our accommodation. She explained the facilities left us to enjoy our holiday, mentioning that reception staff could be contacted by mobile for any queries.
We stayed in the granary with our 2 boys and their girlfriends. There was plenty of space for us all with large sofas in the living area and also seating in the conservatory.
The kitchen was well equipped and the appliances worked well.
Upstairs there were 3 bedrooms and a bathroom. The beds were comfortable and clean and fresh.
The whole cottage had a very country feel and was decorated in keeping with the building. It would benefit from a lick of paint but that didn’t deter from the comfort.
There is a very nice sized garden which was fully enclosed and perfect for our dogs.
The location was great for the beach and getting into the main road for travelling further afield, however we couldn’t hear any road noise from the cottage.
We used some of the sports facilities, the badminton and tennis courts and they were in good condition.
We had a great holiday here and can’t wait to book again.

Felt I had to review after reading about so many cancellations this year! We have just returned from a week’s holiday where an extended family group stayed in a number of the cottages at Kennacott. I stayed in Kennacott House so can mostly comment on that. The house has been redecorated recently so the photos on the website are not accurate any more. It looks a lot less dated and the kitchen has been refitted so it doesn’t have an aga any more. The stairlift has been taken out which is obviously important for anyone visiting with mobility issues. The kitchen is pretty well stocked although the oven was not properly attached to the unit so it would move out if you pulled the door too hard! I get the sense it might have been done in a bit of a rush, one of the radiators wasn’t attached properly to the wall either and fell off. Some of the showers didn’t have hot water either. The Wi-Fi was patchy. We have left a list of things to be looked at but I’m not sure who’ll pay attention to it.

The ownership of Kennacott Court has just changed/is in the process of changing I think so communication was very poor. We received the wrong information for check in and it was only due to luck that we actually managed to get in I think. A code for the key box was needed. There were no instructions as to what we should do upon checking out. We did try to contact the head office during the week we were there but with no luck. We received no replies to emails that were sent.

The swimming pool is being redeveloped, not sure when it will reopen but the childrens room has just reopened (although it needs a bit of a clean after building dust). The site as a whole is ok, I get the impression that things will be updated but not sure when that will happen. Some of the cottages our family were staying in had some issues as well.

The location is ideal, 5 minute drive from Widemouth Bay and 10 minutes into Bude which was great!

In conclusion, if a few key things were improved then we would definitely return!

My family and I stayed at Kennacott Court (Pear Tree Cottage). The venues facilities were great (swimming pool closed for a refurb) and the staff were helpful and friendly. Bedding and accommodation clean and tidy on arrival, we felt Covid-safe. Unfortunately all the furniture is very old, smelly and uncomfortable. Some of the furniture is broken and unsafe. The bathrooms need updating. Ideal location to use as a base if you intend to spend most of your time out and about. The 1 mile walk to the beach is pleasant.
If you enjoy cooking, the kitchens are fully stocked of utensils and the dishwasher and washing machine are new and quiet when in use. The cost of our stay wasn’t justified due to the poor quality of the furniture, there was no element of luxury despite the promise of this on the website.

Went here in august stayed in the granary cottage , first impressions ok but upon closer inspection the cottage hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly. There was webs all over the property and was in a very sorry state looks like it hadn’t been through ant intensive cleaning programme they claimed to do. The fire alarms had the batteries taken out and the electrical testing was out of date . Many of the lamps didn’t have working bulbs and the kitchen extractor didn’t work either. We told the on site manager but didn’t seem that interested they came and changed one bulb. The whole place needs a serious overhaul . The swimming Pool was totally out of use as it look like building works were started on it and never finished ,so the management tried to cover the windows with paper so you couldn’t see . They then were telling everyone that it was out of use because of COVID ?. The tv in the bedroom didn’t work and there was no remote we requested one but it never arrived. Would never go here again and wouldn’t recommend as for calling themselves Luxury accommodation it’s definitely not .

Stayed at Sandymouth Cottage, this particular cottage has spectacular view of the sea and over the golf course however requires maintenance and updating urgently. The furniture, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom all require work to bring them up to a 4 star rating. The guttering around the cottage is broken and the PAT testing/fire extinguishers are all out of date. We unfortunately didn’t use the badminton or tennis courts so unable to review, we did use the “golf course” which actually is a mowed field with 6 flags. During our stay the roof leaked water into our living area for 2 days, the maintenance team arranged for the repair following phone calls, text messages and e-mails from ourselves. We have booked to stay in the area next year as it is a wonderful part of the country however we have chosen not to stay at Kennacott Court but at another cottage nearby.

Despite reading all the latest reviews, we went with a positive mindset.

Positives:
Our lounge had a stunning view out to the countryside sea and amazing sunsets
Managers friendly and tried to resolve our issues straight away
Close to Bude Town centre and beach
Parking available, although if you come back past 8, difficult to get a spot

Negatives:

Property extremely dated (not the chic vintage type!)
Black mould on the walls
Damp smell throughout
Saw a rodent and heard them in the floor boards at night time. We informed the management, and next day they came and put a trap, and some small dehumidifiers.
Reception is closed, only contact is through a mobile phone
It didn't feel relaxing because everything smelt and felt damp, which is shame because the surroundings are beautiful

Having had our family holiday to Rhodes cancelled due to Covid, we needed somewhere that could accommodate 2 families at short notice. We were so lucky to find Kennacott Court. We were greeted by a very pleasant young lady who showed us around and explained everything. We stayed in the Farmhouse, which sleeps 10 people and has everything you could possibly need whilst away. It has a huge secluded safe garden for children and we made use of the BBQ a number of times as the weather was great. Older children made use of the small football pitch...the only downer was the swimming pool being closed due to the pandemic. Kennacott Court is a great place to base yourself...we went on day trips to Port Isaac, Bude, Westward Ho! and the brilliant Milky Way. All in all Kennacott Court is highly recommended...we will definitely return!

Location of the cottage was perfect with easy access to a number of beaches and amenities. However I would not call these ‘luxury cottages’. We stayed in duckpool and it was very outdated. The bedroom was very damp and smelly which lead to many sleepless nights. On our last night there we were woken up by a mouse in my sisters suitcase trying to get to her fudge she had purchased as a gift! This stay was not worth the price tag.

After being refused a refund due to their Covid policy last year, we hesitantly rebooked for this week (9th June). All was fine, we received all the checking in info and booking confirmation last week. They even asked us if we wanted to change our dates because the swimming pool was out of action, but we continued with our booking. Today, they cancelled the cottage we were due to stay in because of ‘unforeseen circumstances’. We had everything planned and now we have to find alternative accommodation elsewhere. All our plans had to be cancelled. I will never book with them again. Worst customer service. Save your money and go elsewhere.

The person also on the phone rudely hung up and said there is nothing we can do

It’s very likely that they sold the stay to someone else who is paying more as this is the week of G7 summit
