This little guesthouse is just a mile outside of Bude centre. It is set over looking beautiful countryside. It is extremely animal friendly! They take guests with dogs and have four of their own ( all SO friendly!) Plus llamas, donkeys, geese and chicken! The downstairs is lovely with a big old piano and a very large table where you have breakfast- the breakfast was delicious! The rooms are basic and the one we stayed in was very small, so dont come here looking for luxury but if you want a warm friendly value for money and a warm welcome for you and your doggy this is your place!

Any potential guests need to read a fair selection of these reviews. This is our second visit to the Upton Cross B&B and it won’t be our last. But this is a B&B and not a hotel. It is also the home of the owners who will not only prepare you one the best cooked breakfasts anywhere but also make you feel incredibly welcome. This is a dog friendly B&B so if you don’t like dogs or have allergies then don’t stay here because there are always dogs about the house. The rooms are basic and clean and as you would expect for a B&B. The house is quirky and full of fascinating stuff that has probably been gathered by a lifetime of travel. Such a friendly place and not the “norm” but stay here, bring your pets and enjoy the hospitality. The house is tired, but if you can accept that it is a B&B and not a hotel then you will enjoy it. The location is perfect and many rooms have a good sea view.

Last minute cancellation got us in to this lovely B&B with our 2 dogs. The proprietors were so welcoming and not a flinch about our dogs wandering and socialising with the other dogs resident and guesting. Such a breathe of fresh air to have this, we will def return for a longer stay next time. basic but comfortable room, amused with the chiming of several clocks on the hour every hour, just added to the charm ! Fantastic breakfast and good value.

On first appearance the B&B looked nice, inside was eclectic and very busy with stuff! Due to the amount of animals the B&B smelt mostly of wet dog and even when breakfast was served the dogs were allowed in the dining area which was one big table where everyone ate which is odd. The dogs were allowed to jump up on guest which I saw a couple of times at breakfast and the owner just laughed. The room we were in was tired and dated with shoddy decorating and diy. They even painted the enamel bath which was flaking and peeling off. Cobwebs were common place and the towels and dressing gowns must be as antique as some of the items on show downstairs and extremely stiff perhaps instead of buying a huge TV for the lounge they could have bought new towels and bedding for all the rooms and still had money left over for a reasonable sized TV. The bed was awful the springs creaked and the headboard banged when the slightest of movements was made. We got bites from I don’t know what?? Breakfast was okay but certainly doesn’t deserve the adulation some people have given it with 1 anemic sausage, 1 price of fatty bacon, overcooked egg and lukewarm beans, the mushrooms and fried bread were nice though however cheap sauce wasn’t pleasant and reconstituted or watered down orange juice was odd. This place has so much potential just a shame it’s not being exploited as it could be amazing.

Our time at this b&b was terrible, we were shown to our room by Flávio, the owner, to find that the windows does not shut properly. The room was front facing and there was a howling wind coming in from the sea. The room was freezing cold and the wind was extremely noisy in the room. We did not end up staying the night at the b&b and later when we complained to Flávio he claimed his “staff” should not have used that room and we should have been in a different one. Despite it being Flávio himself that showed us to the room, he refused to give us a refund and ended up hanging up on me after calling me to try and sort it out. He was extremely rude and basically blamed me for the situation, refusing to offer a refund even though the room was not fit for purpose. Awful customer service and awful place to stay, I would not recommend to anyone.

We stayed for two nights in two different en-suite rooms. Both were reasonably clean and comfortable but a bit dated and in need of a refurb. The hosts were friendly and made our dog welcome too. They made sure we were served good breakfasts each morning.
The property itself is in a great location, right by the coastal path and only 20mins walk from Bude.

Flavio made us (including our dogs) feel very welcome. My elderly father had a bad fall in his room during our stay and Falvio was especially caring and compassionate. Flavio and the rest of the team were very attentive and accommodating throughout all our stay. THANK YOU

Stayed here last week with my wife, baby and our miniature dachshund. Our little sausage loved hanging out with the other dogs here and our baby loved seeing all the chickens and stroking the farm animals (even if one donkey was a little too friendly!). We had a great breakfast in the morning and the staff were super attentive to all our needs - definitely recommend!

I don't know about the other rooms , but we stayed in " tintagel"allegedly a family room . The room is very cramped the TV is on top of the wardrobe and not enough room to put comfortable chairs to watch it . The bathroom is in the eaves of the house with an extremely sloping ceiling , I lost count of the times I banged my head . This is a shame , because otherwise the B&B is really nice , very pleasant staff and a very nice breakfast and the setting is idyllic. Hopefully , you'll get a better room and then I'm sure that you'll enjoy your visit
