First visit to the Pig in the heart of the New Forest. Beautiful setting and perfect for sharing with family and friends. Food amazing and the 25 mile menu is great. It’s a great venue if you are celebrating something special and very relaxed.

My embarrassment at the poor quality of the food, the extortionate prices and the hideous menu choice in front of my American friends knew no bounds. This beautiful location, with its wonderful staff has sunk to a level of complacency and profit focus since being bought out by an equity firm. The roast potatoes had clearly been kept in a warmer and were dry, there was one fatty slice of pork and a desert spoon of cabbage for £30. The sides were black overcooked carrots which my guests refused. The desserts were outrageously price, the pear crumble in a tiny dish had dry old crumble on top, was like warm and tasteless and let me tell you, my Nan never made a watery rice pudding that bad ever! We used to come here a few years ago and it was mind blowing. I almost cried at how dreadful the food and menu was. We will NEVER come back again. There are better places to spend over £200 on a lunch (no alcohol included in this). If you haven’t been for a few years, don’t go it’s spiralled downhill.

Room Tip: Check the menu first because if nettle soup or black carrots aren’t your thing you will be hard...

We visited the Pig for two nights to celebrate a birthday, staying in one of the lodges. The room was large with a comfortable bed. Doors led out to a small garden area with chairs. The bathroom was large with a full sized bath and separate walk in shower. The room was clean and we benefitted from a night turn down serve. We had dinner in the restaurant on both nights. There was plenty on the menu and on the first night we shared the special. Whilst the restaurant was busy both night, there was plenty of waiting staff and we never felt ignored. The quality of the food was excellent, with local produce. The wine list is also extensive with wines at different price points. The bar, whilst small, had a really good selection of wines, spirits, cocktails etc. And whilst the bar area was small, the bar wait staff were very attentive and serving people sitting in the different lounges. We also had bespoke massages, which were excellent. Overall, there is nothing that I can fault about The Pig. The grounds are beautifully maintained. The staff were friendly and attentive. And our room was just what we expected. Cannot wait to go back.

There is no doubt that The Pig is a beautiful hotel in a gorgeous setting. However, on this occasion, we visited for lunch and unfortunately I was very underwhelmed by the menu on offer and ended up having a simple starter with chips! Everything else on the menu seemed stodgy and uninspiring! The lady on the next table sent her meal back as it was stone cold! I felt like leaving a note saying ‘must try harder’! On a positive note the staff are delightful and they were the saving grace x

Came here for dinner and food was delightful as was the service, especially from the waiter, Dom. We started with delicious, piggy bits, followed by excellent white onion soup, beef tartare, and the loin of pork. All delicious wholesome English food, couldn’t be better. We will definitely be returning.

The 3 stars are for the accommodation which is dreamy. A lovely room, gorgeous shower and the most luxurious robes made for a delightful night. But the restaurant, oh the restaurant left us with a bad taste in our mouth. We were a group of six celebrating two birthdays and were put on a table in the darkest far corner of Pig World. A corner where seemingly staff rarely tread. After 20 minutes our eyes had adjusted to the gloom and we would have been able to just about make out the headings on the menu - except there were none. I went in search of a restaurant manager but alas none to be found. I did come upon a waiter and told him that we were feeling a bit sad and neglected and that if he had the time, perhaps a wine list would cheer us up. To be fair, he did manage to find us and offered us rare treats such as menus, a little bread and water (although we did have to ask repeatedly for more of the above). The food was ok but extortionate. It should be cheaper coming from within a 25 mile radius but it ain’t. Not sure how one can justify £12 for some broccoli or £4.75 for 4 new potatoes but heyho. In desperate need for some light and to see some other people, we moved to the bar where we shared some sweet or ‘piggy’ treats. No chance of being a piggy when they bring food which wouldn’t be out of place in a dolls house. A rhubarb and custard tart was barely bigger than a £2 coin and was £9.50! But wait - a waiter brought along a huge dish with a flourish and said that this was for the two birthdays. On the oval serving plate were 6 minute squares of fudge - be still our beating hearts. We were overwhelmed with the generosity of our piggy hosts. Such a pity that we left the restaurant with the mantra ‘mean, mean, mean’ on our lips. When I raised this with the charming manager the next morning, she apologised and said that if I contacted her in the future, she would look after us and give us some ‘piggy treats’! Really?!?!?

Nice atmosphere and setting for a 2 course lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The starters and drinks were good but let down the beef stew which was not particularly flavourful and had very little actual beef. Not in a hurry to go back.

The Pig chain started off well and one was prepared to pay the extra for luxury. Its now lost its way. We have been to two of The Pig restaurants in the last week. The service in both was good but the food was substandard even for a pub. The lamb (12 hour slow cook) was the worst I’ve ever tasted, tough and fatty and the risotto was like poor quality mash potato. The costs of both meals was utterly extortionate. Having discussed our experiences with friends we gather the one in Kent is the same, less than descent food and well more than descent prices.

We stayed in the Tamworth room at the stables which offered lovely and spatial accommodation with a log burning fire - plenty of space for a family. The room was too hot but no complaints aside from that The experience is really let down by the restaurant which offers very average food at a high price point. My monkfish was totally over cooked and thankfully was taken off the bill. The menu is uninspired & bland. Not impressed, doesn’t deserve the hype and won’t be returning

Came to the Pig for two nights, as it was a Christmas gift. Having read some of the reviews prior to coming I was a little sceptical, however, I needn’t have been!! From the minute we walked in and were met by Gary to when we left to the "have a safe trip" from Gary, we couldn’t fault the Pig, the food or the staff. Our room was in the main house and was extremely comfortable and cosy. The furnishings, bed linen and bathroom accessories were luxurious and of top quality. The bed provided a comfortable sleep, with the room and bathroom being spotless. The room was not huge but big enough and the bathroom was practical with a nice walk-in shower. There were some nice little touches, like the complementary "Tunnocks" in the fridge and the fresh milk for the T&C. We had only planned to have our first evening meal at the hotel, however, due to the appalling weather and the fact we relaxed all day in the hotel, reading rather than walking along the coast, we ended up eating twice in the restaurant. On both occasions we found the food to be flavoursome and well presented, with the portions being adequate for ourselves. The Pig is not a pile it high place, you go for the flavours and the passion of the food and the ambience of the restaurant, which we found to be excellent. There is a good choice on the menu, both for breakfast and evening meal. Again, we couldn’t fault the staff, who were friendly, efficient and not too pushy. Overall, we had an excellent two nights at the Pig and were pleased with our experience. I am sure we will visit again.
