The Setthorns Camping in the Forest site offers beautifully secluded and private pitches which provide campers with a uniquely tranquil holiday. Resting among the shade of majestic oaks and pine trees, Setthorns provides the ultimate seclusion, which may be why it is so popular with those looking for a truly unique camping holiday. Pitch your tent in the peaceful setting of Setthorns and enjoy an abundance of wildlife, including free roaming ponies and deer. Rare, wild birds can be seen in their natural environment, and small mammals busy themselves as they go about their daily lives in the forest's heathland and woodland. Please note that there are no shower or toilet facilities on the campsite, therefore your own chemical toilet is essential.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I stayed here last weekend. It was bliss.
Once you have booked, you will be kept informed about your booking . Just a gentle reminder it's coming up, nothing more. How refreshing!
It's well signposted and easy to find.
The reception staff were really helpful and friendly. I had never stayed before so they made sure I had a map and knew where to go. It's worth noting they stock bread milk and chocolate snacks...amongst other things..just in case you have forgotten something.
There are no 'facilities' so you will need your own chemical toilet. This is clearly explained when booking.
There's a wide variety of pitches for caravans, campers or tents. There's power if you really need it (small extra charge).
The setting is beautiful. Very peaceful and tranquil .
After a 3 hour walk, it was lovely to return to my camper, cook some tea and just sit in my camper side doorway watching the night closing in with deer wandering through the trees, owls hooting and birds singing. There were other people camping ..but you wouldn't know. Everything was well spaced out.
This is an ideal site for families too as there are miles and miles of forest to explore all around the site.
I really enjoyed my stay and can't wait to visit again.
I would highly recommend this camp site.

We have been visiting this site over a number of years through all the four seasons. The staff in particular Racheal the manager as well as Shirley and John, are genuinely welcoming, helpful and extremely proud of the site. I have read a review, moaning about the state of the pitches due to leaves and broken branches left laying across roads after the recent storms. Setthorns is situated in the middle of the forest so what do you expect? It isn’t uncommon to see Shirley and John on site clearing ditches, drains, pitches as well as walking around the site assisting campers as well as working in reception. This is in all weathers and always with a smile on their face. If you want to experience the New Forest with the coast less than five miles away as well as Lyndhurst and other gems to explore coupled with genuinely friendly and welcoming staff, then this is the campsite for you. Keep up the excellent work.

We love setthorns so much we decided to have a seasonal pitch for the last three years and wouldn't go anywhere else, all the staff are fantastic and very friendly and helpful.
Nothing better than opening the awnings to find deer surrounding us and of course all the wildlife.
The walks are second to none our 10 year old granddaughter loves it so much too, in our experience the site safe and secure and everyone helps eacher out. Lovely community.
Yes there has been a lot of rain but its winter months, summer just fantastic. We looked at other sites in the past and my partner won't even consider anything else SETTHORNS all the way just love it.
Big thank you to all the staff.

We visited Setthorns Campsite in New Milton with our campervan, our first trip camping. We arrived after 7pm & found our pitch & set up. The next day we took the dogs for a walk in the forest, all seemed ok. We put up a tent on our pitch for storage. A very kind man called Dave came to speak to us & was informative & helpful. However the site manager told us, through Dave, that we had to take the tent down & that she had the power to evict us, even though the office were aware it was up for 3 days. We explained we were not sleeping in the tent, it was just for storage. This didn’t make any difference, we were still told to take the tent down. We felt extremely uncomfortable, so much so, we took the tent down very early on Sunday morning & left the site a day early. There was no way we wanted to stay somewhere that made us feel unwelcome. We understand there are rules & regulations but to be rude to your paying customers is not acceptable. The setting was beautiful but we would never stay here again or recommend this place to any of our friends due to the way we were spoken to by the site manager.

Could well earn 5 starts except I'd like to see a woodland play are for children. Very friendly staff on arrival suggested nice pitch. We had a select pitch with a little more room. As you can see very private. Was a warm few days so lovely and cool being under the Forrest canopy, some areas of dappled sun.

Great cycle rides on disused railway. Popular with families so as said would be lovely to see a woodland themed play area so kids can meet and play. Note: there are no showers or toilets,if you don't have your own toilet you won't be allowed to stay, so you need to be 100% self sufficient except for optional power, water taps and chemical toilet empty point.

This is such a nice site away from in all in the heart of the New forest. On arrival we were given the details about the site and I was so pleased to hear that every camper is now told not to feed the animals and no bird feeders either! Feeding of the deer and other wildlife has always been a problem from a few inconsiderate and selfish campers so I was really pleased to hear that this problem is being addressed. The pitches on this site are lovely and you get a real feel of freedom. If you like walking you have the New forest to roam on your doorstep the villages of Sway and Brockenhurst are in walking distance too. Well done to all staff members who work hard at keeping this site looking great !

First time for us at this site and for winter camping. Well motorhome with heating.... I wanted to be in the forest and I wasn't disappointed. The lady who greeted us was friendly and helpful, the pitches were among the trees so deer walking right passed our van. I was a little put off by the previous reviews saying there were lots of seasonal stayers I can only say that if I were a seasonal camper this would be a fine place to wake up too.

We have visited Setthorns on many occasions and always found the site to be peaceful and quiet even on this a bank holiday weekend, yes it was completely full but the way the pitches are set out and the woodland location lead to a tranquil environment.
Friendly and helpful staff have always had a warm greeting for us.
Be warned though it has minimal facilities so you need to have everything you need with you.
Can’t wait until next time to see the ever changing seasons scenery.

Setthorns is a great place to use as a base to visit all parts of the New Forest.

Rachel (the manager) and staff are friendly and very helpful, (thank you in particular to John who came to help us on our arrival with a small problem we had, and for pointing us in the direction of Granville (a caravan service engineer) who helped us twice more with a couple of other hiccups we had during our stay.

I can highly recommend Setthorns as a quiet, peaceful and well-kept site and a great place to visit all areas of The New Forest.

We will be back and hope the site remains as well run as it is now.

Well, I was nervous based on other reviews s but no need. What a wonderful place. Relaxed. Quiet. Beautiful. We stayed in a tent with electric hookup. Only 2 spaces and it was large enough for our big tent, gazebo and utility tent.

You must have your own toilet and they will check. We also had a camping shower. Good facilities for rubbish, water and waste disposal.

Staff were all super friendly and we were even able to use an electric hookup extension for one night as ours was too short! But the camping shop in Lyndhurst fixed that.

The shop is small but has useful things you may need and you can hire cool blocks.

Lots of walks and beautiful sunsets - horses roam free. Sadly no deer. But we will certainly return here!
