My husband and I have just returned from a wonderful 2 night stay in this charming hotel, celebrating my birthday and our anniversary. Everything was perfect, our car parking space and room were ready early, and we were offered coffee and cake on arrival, which was much appreciated. We stayed in Rufus Stone, a cosy room for 2; it was clean and extremely comfortable, and being situated around the back was also quiet and private. To mark the occasion, tasteful birthday bunting was hanging up, a lovely touch.
We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfasts, there was plenty of choice and the service was efficient and very friendly. We also made use of the honesty bar, another special touch.
The Cottage Lodge Hotel is perfectly situated, there are shops/ cafes/ other eateries on the doorstep / just around the corner and 3 pubs within a 5 minute walk. We had good meals at The Snakecatcher and Albero Italian restaurant. Cycle hire can be found by the train station a 10 minute walk away and is thoroughly recommended. Access to the forest on foot or bike is also on the doorstep, just behind the back of the school which is nearby to the hotel.
Thank you to Maurizio and his super staff for a memorable stay. We hope to return.

Lovely, quaint hotel, so unlike the chains. From tea and cake on arrival, to the superb breakfasts, we enjoyed it all very much. Location ideal, plenty of places walking distance for food. A visit to nearby Beaulieu is a must do, and the people in the little village are welcoming and helpful.

Had a wonderful two night stay at Cottage Lodge Hotel. A big plus was the reserved parking in front of the hotel which takes away any anxiety about being able to park, and knowing you still have your space after a day out.

The bed was comfortable and the room had a very good shower and bath. Shampoo & conditioner and liquid soap included in easy to use containers. Internet connection was very good.

Our room had an open wardrobe with enough space for a short stay. The room also had a safe at just above eye level and not tucked away at the bottom of a wardrobe like some. The room was spotless. Women might like it if there was an extra mirror by the desk. Even just a portable one.

No scenic view but nice big windows and plenty of daylight. A fan and extra heater are in the room if needed. The fan was whisper quiet.

Location was good being a short walk from the train station and with regular busses including an open top tour bus outside the hotel. A bike hire shop was close by.

A few restaurants and pubs close by including White Plains a small independent restaurant within the hotel.

There is no bar in the hotel, but does have a small seating area where you can buy a selection of bottled drinks from the honesty bar. You list what you have and this is added to your bill. Some canned spirits would be a nice addition.

Breakfast had a good selection, although eggs were poached in vinegar which I don’t like. The cooked breakfast is quite small, but you have a good selection of pastries and fruit, which you order the night before.

The famous hosts were not there but the welcoming and friendly manager made up for it.

This is somewhere I will definitely stay again when visiting the New Forest.

Cottage Lodge is the ideal location from which to explore the New Forest and the village of Brockenhurst with the wild ponies and wild pigs wandering around the village unconcerned by people or vehicles which is quite unique.
It is in walking distance of the village, restaurants and pubs.
We were given a warm welcome on arrival with afternoon tea and cake which was lovely. A good full breakfast was served in the light, sunny dining room.
Sadly our room Standing Hat was not what we expected, whilst clean the timber furniture was in dire need of some tender loving care.
The bed linen was worn and torn and the duvet was so thin it felt more like a sheet than a duvet.
The window frames (inside) were covered in black mould which health wise is not ideal.
The bathroom with its brown institutional linoleum flooring was old and in serious need of renovation especially the shower which flooded the floor each time we used it due to the door of the shower enclosure having been removed and the shower curtain replacing the door was too short and billowed out onto the floor when the shower was used. This was not a new or unknown situation as there was black fungus along the floor edge and skirting boards.
We brought the flooding shower to the attention of a staff member who said she would speak to the manager to see what could be done. Sadly the manager was missing in action he/she never spoke or saw us during our three night stay. We however were fortunately able to get additional towels from Vilma one of the housekeepers, who was very helpful, to mop up the water after we used the shower.
Furthermore the water in the shower became a cold trickle when the guests in the room above us used their shower at the same time as we did and at five foot ten and a half my head touched the ceiling of the shower which was very awkward indeed.
The towels were old, thin and we hardly wanted to use them because they looked so grey and almost dirty which there weren’t.
Whether we would stay at Cottage Lodge again is debatable as we do not know if the other rooms in the hotel are any better.

Dear ValVaus, Many thanks for your feed-back. The Cottage Lodge experience for our guests is extremely important to us and we genuinely thought we have dealt with the above comments and you were happy and satisfied. I guess you felt that it was important to share everything online despite we had looked after you. Saying that, the Standing Hat room is an extremely popular room amongst our regulars and we were very surprise on your comments during your stay. Nevertheless, we had tried our best to adjust things based open your liking and expectations. We are very sorry that you did not like, despite our efforts, your stay. Kind regards, Maurizio, Francesca and the Cottage Lodge Team

I booked a two night stay with my son as a change from Portsmouth where he is reaching the end of his studies at Portsmouth Uni so I decided on the New forest as it’s only another hour away.
What immediately appealed to me about the Cottage lodge hotel was its environmental sustainability ethos and together with the positive reviews as well as value for money made it the perfect choice for me.
The location is perfect with everything within easy walking distance and upon arrival we were greeted with a welcome tea/coffee with cake and we even had our own named designated parking spot for the duration of our stay.
The staff were wonderful, very friendly and accommodating and the breakfast was delicious with locally sourced ingredients cooked to perfection. The breakfast offering is extensive and they cater for every dietary need.
I would most definitely recommend this little gem and I would most certainly return again in the future.

I highly recommend Cottage Lodge Hotel, a beautiful centuries-old building just a short walking distance from the Brockenhurst train station. I stayed in the nicely furnished Little Alice room and it suited me perfectly, with plenty of wall hooks, surface area, and more conveniently located power outlets than I’ve had in some modern hotels. It was always nice to be greeted by the smiling friendly staff at breakfast, which included lots of delicious options. Maurizio was a joy to talk with and gave me great suggestions for walks in the New Forest. Also, everyone is very environmentally conscious. I will stay there again the next time I’m in Brockenhurst.

We visited for a few days in March 2023 and suffered some of the worst weather we have had for years, some snow, but lots of torrential rain. We stayed in a dog-friendly room and there was no sign of any dogs having visited it before ours, which is a tribute to the cleaning staff. We had a personal car parking space, superb wifi (needed with the weather being what it was) and full en-suite facilities. The food in the restaurant, was a little pricey, but absolutely excellent, with very good service, breakfast food was similarly good with the service being timed to near perfection.
Brockenhurst is situated in the middle of the Forest, next door to Beaulieu and handy for just about everywhere.
For me, the best thing about the hotel is not its facilities or situation, but its owner and staff, who were efficient, accommodating, caring and very friendly. 5 stars indeed.

Very warm welcome by Mauricio. Lovely cake and cup of tea. Our room was Verderers which is on the ground floor. Room and especially the bathroom very old fashioned. Lovely toiletries, locally sourced. The bed was so soft and springy it was extremely uncomfortable. On our first morning we went to have a shower but the water flow was so low the button on the taps to convert it to a shower would not stay up and the water flow kept stopping. It was impossible to have a shower. We reported the issue to Mauricio who could not understand it as we were next to the pump room and he stated he would look at it during the day. The next morning it was just the same so we started to run the bath at 7.45am and by 8.05 there was about 5 inches of water. Just about enough for a bath. To rinse my hair I had to hold the button on the taps with one hand and the shower head with the other for the slightest trickle of water. Not good enough. As other guests have said breakfast was extremely good but dining room cold on both mornings, no radiators on. Coffee could not have been weaker! Jam and marmalade were served in a tiny paper cup, no jars on table as shown in photos on website. It just felt as if money was being saved at every turn. We would definitely never return nor could we recommend.

Dear Victoria T, We are very sorry to hear that you have not enjoyed your stay with us. You have mentioned the challenge with water to me after your first night and we have checked during the day and it seemed fine. You came back to me later saying that everything was fine. If we knew that you were still experiencing an issue with water, we could have checked it again and changed your room if necessary. It is a shame we were not given the change to make your stay more comfortable. In regards to breakfast, we are very sorry to learn that we did not meet your expectations. Should you decide to come back to the Cottage Lodge, we will be very happy to welcome you back. Kind regards, Maurizio, Francesca and the Cottage Lodge Team

We really enjoyed our 3 nights in Cottage Lodge Hotel. We were particularly impressed with their eco friendly policies. Having individual, labelled parking spaces is also a genius idea. The staff were extremely helpful at all times. Each bedroom is unique, extremely comfortable, imaginatively designed & spotless. The breakfast was wonderful.
The 'White Tails' restaurant is a must to dine in. Personally managed by Ramsey, who could not have been more helpful with my somewhat 'mad' dietary needs. The food was unusual, delicious & beautifully presented. The hotel & restaurant are very conveniently situated in the heart of the beautiful New Forest. Many interesting, historical and attractive places are within easy reach.

The first thing that makes Cottage Lodge stand out is the designated parking spot for your entire stay which makes for a stress free arrival. The staff and the accommodation were both fantastic. A genuine warm welcome with tea and cake was a very nice gesture.

Our room was spacious and spotless with a balcony where we could watch the donkeys and ponies meander along the road to the front of the property.

Bed was comfy and breakfast was great with an extensive and varied menu to choose from

Staff were very helpful with tips of where to go and what to see in the local area and their recommendations of where to eat were spot on.

We will definitely be back and might even come by train next time as the hotel is conveniently located for the station and restaurants etc
