My wife and myself are nearing the end of a most enjoyable 4 night stay at the lovely 16 room Cottage Lodge Hotel which is a comfortable 10-15 minute walk from Brockenhurst Station. The latter being particularly important to us as - unlike most guests - we arrived by rail from London. Not only that but Brockenhurst Station provides good local/regional rail links which we made good use of during our stay by visiting both Lymington and Winchester. We arrived at the Cottage Lodge Hotel around 1300 to be given a very warm welcome from the owner Maurizio (who had already been most helpful in the run up to our visit). This included complimentary coffee/tea & cake during which we were given a comprehensive briefing on all the practical arrangements (including completing some of our Breakfast requirements the day/night before - see below - as well as agreeing a mutually agreeable time slot) and advice on local attractions. Maurizio then took us to our room (James Hill) which proved most comfortable, spacious and met all our needs. This included an en- suite bathroom equipped with high quality toiletries. Breakfast is served in the ground floor restaurant (which doubles up as the excellent White Tails Restaurant every night except Monday - see separate Review) and in addition to the items already chosen (which are promptly served on arrival) there is an extensive A La Carte menu. All in all, an excellent Breakfast arrangement but the property’s biggest asset is undoubtedly the staff. The whole team (notably Christine, Jackie & Norma) could not have been more welcoming and this really enhanced our stay. So much so that we may well be back in the New Year!! …

I used this hotel last week. I thought booking a stay for business in the New Forest in summer holidays was going to be hard and was prepared to settled for a bog standard room anywhere. Then I found this little treasure nestled in Brockenhurst - a 7 minute drive from where I needed to be for work. This place is exceptional, the personalised parking space, the fresh coffee and cake upon arrival, the personal greeting and pleasant chat with owner Maurizio gave me the feeling that nothing is too much trouble for his guests, the natural wood furniture, the quaint cosy feel gave me the feeling of wanting to stay longer and I hadn’t even seen my room. My room, The Rhinefield was stunning - a bed made from the fallen trees of the New Forest, clean, tidy and spacious. The sleep was good and breakfast was stilled to be enjoyed. Breakfast was pre ordered the night before which was very efficient for people staying here for business, it meant that I could enjoy all that breakfast had to offer without being delayed. A selection of pastries, fruit and a cooked breakfast washed down with fruit juice and fresh coffee was perfect before checking out and heading for a day at work with a personal wave from Maurizio at the door. We went to the Cottage Lodge Hotel for our mom's birthday and booked 3 rooms for the occasion and what a great choice this was! The 3 rooms were all very different one from another with different decors, but they were all absolutely gorgeous. We were all please with the very friendly attentive staff, clean rooms and amazing breakfast! We even got lucky with the weather and could go for very long walks in the forest. The Cottage Lodge Hotel is a must visit when you are the in the area. Each time we go there it seems to get better and better, well done to the team & owners!

Very nice find, if not a little chilly. Recent visit gave us what we needed from location and accommodation on arrival we were greeted by drinks and cake in the snug but sadly had to keep our coats on. Breakfast was again very nice but the room was cold. Maybe we were unlucky with the change of weather.

I stayed at the Cottage Lodge just one night, unfortunately. As soon I stepped inside the building I felt very welcome, during the checkin I've been offered coffee and a slice of cake and had a nice conversation with the owner. I stayed in the Verderers room, it was very comfortable and warm. The breakfast was delicious and made with great ingredients. I will definitely be back and next time for a longer stay.

Spent the night at the Cottage Lodge after a long day driving. I requested a quiet room as needed to leave early. Used to stay in hotels due to business trips I can say that It was spotless, extremely clean. Matress very confortable and good water preassure shower. Staff was very attentive and engaging. Breakfast is another reason to stay in this hotel. FANTASTIC! My only regret to have only spend 1 night there. Definitively coming back!

We stayed at the cottage lodge for one night in November We arrived at 2pm and we were ushered into the snug to check in and for coffee and cake which was a nice touch however the fire was not lit, there were no lights on and it was cold! We stayed in The Foresters room which is quite basic. Nice comfy bed and all very clean but so very cold We asked if they could put the heating on but the owner was very dismissive and replied…” it goes on at 4pm and I cannot change that… we can’t have the heating on all day!” They provide a small electric heater in the room but that doesn’t have any effect on the bathroom We decided to go out and find a pub or cafe to warm up. Very disappointed with the owners attitude, we are paying guests and he was not concerned about the temperature in the bedroom He did apologise and left a complimentary bag of herbal tea in our room Maybe we can warm our hands on the kettle when it comes to the boil. Breakfast was really good, lots of choice and very nicely cooked but you cannot help but notice the staff wearing hoodies and jumpers inside ! Sometimes clever marketing and positive reviews can lead you to making a mistake and this was one of those times Overpriced and underwhelmed…

Dear 832janeto, Let me clarify few points for our review readers. After you have reported that your room was “freezing” we went to the room and bathroom and noted 20C. Our heating system is set on a timer and there are only a few hours a couple of times during the day when is off. The temperature overall never goes under 20C when it is off very late morning and very early afternoon. Rest of the time, temperatures are well above 20C. Furthermore, we provide an electric heater in every room in case a guest needs to boost the temperature. As a matter of fact, none of our guests in the last few days have used the electric one and we never had any comment about the lack of heating in the hotel. The system works very well and it allows to have the right temperature throughout day and night without any wastage. We know that we cannot always please everyone but we never had any issue with the temperature in the rooms. Although we believe that the temperature was fine we thought of organizing a little gesture to show you our willingness to please our guests. We are also surprised of your negative review, when during check out you clearly said that you had an excellent night sleep and breakfast was very good. We are very lucky that the vast majority of our guests find the Cottage Lodge excellent and we will continue to thrive towards that. Although we believe that we delivered the right experience, we are sorry that you have not enjoyed your first few hours of your stay as everyone works very hard at the Cottage Lodge to make the guests experience as memorable as possible. Slightly quirky (in a good way) friendly take on a traditional village cottage B&B. Great location from which to explore and rightly proud of their ‘green credentials’. Fairly extensive breakfast menu. The village boasts three local pubs with a choice of food and drink. There’s even a Chip shop. Unfortunately, personal preference, I really did not enjoy the old style ‘marshmallow’ soft mattress on the bed and that and only that will stop us returning. Which is a shame.
