We stayed here previously just for one night and were so impressed we came back again. We loved our stay here. The location is very rural with undisturbed views and is tranquil. Despite being a working farm, we were not disturbed. The room was spacious, nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. Karen is a great host, leaving scones and biscuits in the room for an impromptu tea when you arrive. The room overlooks the garden and then fields and on a clear day there are fantastic views. Karen is extremely helpful and there is information about places to eat. Having a car or transport is a must, but there is guest parking. We enjoyed hearty well-cooked breakfasts and there is a buffet with cereals and fruits/yoghurts. Karen is very accommodating and is able to tailor breakfast to your taste and there is plenty to satisfy the biggest appetite. We had a lovely relaxing stay and we’re sorry to leave. We will definitely return. …

A perfect place to stay. The farm is situated in beautiful countryside and an excellent place to stay. The rooms are clean and well presented and have everything you need for a relaxing stay. Situated just outside Barny it is perfect for touring or visiting places such as the Bowes Museum. Karen is a superb host and her breakfasts are excellent. We would hope to return.

We stayed for one night and were made to feel most welcome by our hosts. Set amidst a working farm with a picturesque garden and magnificent views, the house is homely and comfortable. Our room had every amenity we needed and our welcome included delicious home-made scones. We got a takeaway supper from nearby Barnard Castle and ate it in the garden. Breakfast was delicious, with a full English range of bacon, sausage, black pudding, eggs tomato and mushrooms, supplemented by a generous choice of cereals, fresh fruit and yoghurts. Lily Farm was a perfect stopover point for our drive north.

Farm stay in the quiet of the countryside. Karen goes well beyond excellent in equipping the rooms, making you feel very welcome and serving an amazing breakfast. The fresh fruit salad was very special. Wonderful start to our holiday

Lily Farm is a lovely warm and cosy bed and breakfast near to Barnard Castle. Visiting from New Zealand, I was pleased that we had booked this place due to the favourable reviews as it was a great base to explore the town, and sights such as the interesting Bowes Museum and Raby Castle, and also Staindrop where my NZ brother-in-law was born! I wish we’d visited before. We had a lovely meal at the Three Horseshoes Hotel. The breakfasts at Lily Farm were great and our host was just lovely, nothing too much trouble. We had a lovely large very comfortable bedroom with nice toiletries, shortbread and I seem to recall welcoming scones! Views were very pretty from our window, and it is a working farm so it was interesting to see the animals. It got very cold outside but fortunately it didn’t snow and we were very warm inside! Apologies for taking so long to write this review but we had a long tour and have only gotten home recently. We would certainly consider staying again if we head this way in the future.…

Very comfortable, tranquil place to stay. Lovely, lavish and tasty breakfast. Beautiful place to stay, nice walks nearby. Friendly hosts as well. Great value! Only slight drawback, the wifi was intermittent, but I don't care. Didn't come here to surf the web!

We stayed as a couple at Lily Hill Farm for a weekend break. We were greeted by Karen who was a fabulous hostess and attention to detail throughout the property was fantastic and very personal . We had the double bedroom which overlooked fields and beautiful views. There was freshly baked scones and biscuits to greet us in our room and the breakfast had a choice of delicious home cooked foods, the fruit selection was outstanding. We would definitely recommend for anyone requiring a peaceful, quiet break.

My wife and I needed an overnight stop near Barnard Castle, we found Lily Hill Farm. The hostess was welcoming, as was the whole house. There was a guest louge with a roaring log fire, the bedroom had scones and jam waiting as a welcome, as well as tea, coffee, and hot chocolate making facility with assorted biscuits and chocolates! We had the smaller, twin room: clean, warm, a decent size, with a decent bathroom. Nothing fancy but with the use of the lounge you don't need it. We take the view it's for sleeping in... Breakfast was the full deal: cerals, porridge, juices, fruit salad, yoghurt, full english... Even smoked salmon to go with your scrambled egg!! I've stayed in hotels where two breakfasts cost nearly as much as the entire stray here. Location is quite remote, and therefore very quiet. We arrived in the dark and left in freezing mistiness so we can't comment on using the garden or the views, but what we saw of the garden looked very pleasant. Beds were a tad firm but a strange bed is always a challenge. We would definitely stay here again if we were passing this way.…

We really enjoyed our stay at Lily Hill Farm. The farm itself is set in lovely, peaceful countryside and has fabulous views. Our hostess, Karen was welcoming, friendly and very conscientious. Our room was large, comfortable and warm and the linen and toiletries were all of a lovely quality. The little touches (welcome scones, chocolates and homemade biscuits) were really appreciated. The breakfast was delicious…. loads of it and all good quality produce. We would certainly stay here again. Thanks, Karen.

Our second overnight stay this year and it did not disappoint. Karen has thought of everything from home-made scones and biscuits to bottled water. The setting is peaceful, with amazing scenic views and plenty of wildlife like barn owls and kestrels and buzzards Rooms are spacious and relaxing. You feel at ease here and welcomed by Karen. Breakfast are superb, with everything you could wish for in a full English, to a lighter choice if desired. A gem of a place, just how a farm B&B should be done, convenient for Co Durham, Teesdale, Swaledale and North Yorkshire and so much more. Superb value too.
