This has recently been taken over and is now a comfortable 'typical' English country pub. There's plenty of options from food, to beer, and entertainment. Dogs welcome which was a huge and welcome advantage .

The whole place needs refurbishing to bring it to a good standard. Our room was comfortable, as was the bed, but the bathroom had been neglected and was in a poor state of repair. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was reasonably good. There is a nice seating area outside at the back but, again, it needs...

Dear Guest, Thank you for staying with us. As you may be aware, we are still in the process of refurbishing the property, while keeping the character of this grand old historic building intact. Since we took over at the beginning of this year, it may take some more time. We hope to see you back soon , when you will...

The bar area has been modernised and updated however the rest of the hotel is still dated. The rooms are all individual with period features and comfy beds, mine had a reasonable size shower room. Breakfast is available for guests and food is served in the evening until 8:45. Parking is available in the nearby long stay car park for...

Stayed here a couple of years ago and it was great - accommodation good, food good, owners helpful and well organised...but now..... Our party (men) shared double beds when we'd booked one bed per person - the hotel had a rooming list but just allocated randomly - unfortunately the guys didn't tell me until the following day as they thought...

Dear Guest, We have group bookings quite often and it is always the lead guest who is responsible for room allocations since he/she is the one aware of the room type suitable for the rest of the party. It's also unfortunate that you did not notice that the soft furnishings had changed, the rooms had been painted, they now have...

Visited for two nights, as playing golf locally. This followed a similar visit a year ago. A friendly pub, welcoming staff, and adequate rooms, which although improved a bit in the last 12 months (the old "box" TV's have been replaced by smart TV's) is still somewhat dated with tired furniture. However, it could be said that this is part...

Dear Guest , Thank you for staying with us. Yes, it is a very old and historical building and we are trying to keep the character while making necessary changes . Hence the only things 'modern' are the television and wifi! We hope to see you back soon. Cheers Rima

My wife and I stopped for one night as a half way stop over from Scotland. We received a warm welcome on our arrival and shown to our room which was very spacious with amazing furniture. Fascinating rooms with so many original features, really interesting place to stay! If I were to be really picky, some of the furnishings could do with removing/updating (why the empty bowl on the table in room 9?) the lovely white bedding was covered up by a dated red shiny throw - show off your white linen! as a previous review...

We visited last night to be told there was no steak as the owners wife was doing the cooking and she wasn't confident enough to cook steak!! We should have got the message and left then. The food was only just acceptable, with the exception of the dessert - millionaires shortbread. It was still frozen and the so called shortbread...

It has indeed changed hands, but only recently so do give us some time to change all of it including the wallpaper in the restrooms. We have the front part of the pub left to do and waiting for the lean season to complete the rather large project. Do bear with us. Yes, I am the assistant chef and steaks...

Rather dated room but adequate, excellent tasty breakfast and very pleasant waiting staff. In a lovely area and near to all amenities and walks. Rather expensive room rate but it was a last minute booking and probably...

Dear Guest, Thank you for appreciating the breakfast. It is rather special! The building is a very old , historic ,18century building and we do need to keep its character. Can't really modernise it.
