Stayed here for 2 nights over a long weekend travelling around the lakes and Scotland. We were gifted a red letter days voucher for Christmas and upon looking where we could use the voucher we found the sandford arms. I was a little apprehensive as sometimes using a gift voucher such as this can be difficult or seen as a inconvenience, this was not the case at all here. We were aware of the supplement for the weekend which was all we paid, no extras which was good. The welcome from the landlord was great and he was friendly throughout our stay. Ellie who served us in the evening was also incredibly friendly. The room was large and very comfortable even down to the towels which were super soft. We took breakfast both days and the full Cumbrian was a treat to set you up for the day. One day I didnt fancy the full breakfast so I asked if a breakfast sandwich was possible, of course they were only too happy to help. Check out was also very easy. On arrival at our next location I realised I'd left something in the room, upon contacting the pub they found it and posted it back to me, another example of their great hospitality. The location is also great, we managed to explore both the Yorkshire dales and the lake district whilst visiting here. Glad we found this place and will be back again when visiting the area.

This property is just off the A66, so it’s an ideal place for us to stop when travelling from the northeast of Scotland to the east coast of England.

It’s in the countryside and it is a lovely old building. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the hotel was very quiet and peaceful. We took the dog for a walk around some nearby lanes and it was really pretty.

Our room was very comfortable and had tea/coffee making facilities, TV and hair dryer. The bathroom was very nice and looked like it was a new one. Powerful, hot shower with complimentary toiletries.

The bed was comfy and we both slept well.

We ate dinner in the evening when we arrived - my husband had the steak pie, which was very tasty with plenty of filling. I had the burger and it was a generous helping and very nice. In the morning my husband had the full English and I had the Continental - generous helpings and tasty.

We paid £80 for B&B, which we thought wasn’t too bad. We would stay here again

Just come back from a weekend at the Sandford Arms. Excellent stay. Made very welcome by Louise, who checked us in quickly without fuss and served the drinks. Two breakfasts and two evening meals over the weekend and all four of us thoroughly enjoyed each one. Steve didn't seem to stop working all weekend and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had room 3, which was huge. Great area to visit with loads to do. Will recommend to others and will return.

Recomended by a friend to eat here, not again.
After a short wait the food came out which turned out to be what tasted like supermarket bought frozen burgers that had been over cooked, tempura prawns that had never even been introduced to a prawn let alone contain one. When asked for no raw onions in the salad, was presented with a burger without onion rings. Problem was easily rectified by bringing out two large onion rings dripping with oil.

Staff were friendly though.

4 of us went using buyagift vouchers. Rooms were fine but we were charged an additional £20 per room as classed as superior?. Food ok but presentation was terrible not a great menue but nothing near so really had to eat there. The owner was polite enough but didnt go out of his way to make small talk and it wasnt busy so no real excuse as this goes with the job. Could do with a fire or heating as not particularly warm. Unfortunately we wouldnt choose to stay again.

Booked a room in 2020 and had to cancel due to covid. didn't ask for our money back but said we would have a room this year. Contacted the pub asked for a room in July explaining that we would be on our way from Scotland to Cornwall and could we have confirmation that is OK, I have contacted them several times and they have still not let me know if everything is booked and OK. So if you do book here don't expect any communication from the owner as I think he feels it is above him.

Meal out with a friend for birthday. Food was very tasty but we all thought it was too expensive! Tempura prawns-4 prawns for £8 and 1 fishcake was £7!! These were just starters. The main courses were mostly £12-14 and the veg were very sparse. Really disappointed as we have eaten here a lot over the years. Think they need to look at their prices!

Book a double room for 2 nights stay in June for myself and my wife’s birthday a buy a gift voucher .
After all the lock down restrictions , We read all the good reviews and was so looking forward to our break.
I’m May I had a mini stroke and was unable to travel. I email the hotel explaining the situation. I ask if I needed to cancel or if I could postpone the booking . The hotel cancelled the my booking
After my recovery I looked on buy a gift looking to book another break.
To my amazement I found that I was unable to use my voucher and that the hotel had redeemed my voucher .
I emailed the hotel and buy a gift, buy a gift responded stating that the voucher had been claimed . The hotel denied the claims .
I ask if I could rebook and ask for alternative dates . The hotels response was that the rooms was all booked and when I asked for the hotel to recommend available dates they have no stopped responded to my emails .
I felt I had no choice but to Wright this review and let people know just how they let me down.
I know times are difficult with the pandemic and that it’s has hit the hospitality sector hard but I feel there was no need . It has effected us all .

Hope your happy with yourself

The hotel is easy to find, has a really good menu, my wife does not eat meat, but had some decent choices and recommended the Fish Cake starter as a mains. It’s a great base for local walks in some stunning locations. Very safe and well managed around C-19 precautions with all customers following the rules. Clean room and friendly staff.

Good points:
We redeemed our voucher for 2 nights.
Great location - Spacious rooms. Nice bedding & towels.
Loved the food & beer. Well priced mains - I wish lamb was on the menu given their abundance in the vacinity.
Friendly staff & great base for the Lakes/ Peaks.
Quiet & peaceful
Minus points:
fiddly over the bath shower head difficult to adjust.

Hello I'm on EE and had no problem ringing the pub from outside when we thought they were closed! Can't comment on other networks but should imagine they're similar in performance. Enjoy your stay. Matt
