We lived near Appleby 24 years ago and decided to return with 2 friends to play golf in the Autumn Open at Appleby Golf Club. When we have been before we stayed at a well-known pub in the area, however this year this wasn't available. That's when we hit the jackpot and found Barrowgarth.
We had a fabulous welcome from Hayley who explained all we needed to know. Private parking. Rooms 1 & 2 were lovely with tea, coffee, fresh milk and cold water in a mini fridge, walk in shower with toiletries and piping hot water. Quick turn round and we walked into town for a meal. On return we had a nightcap (well several if I'm honest) in the comfortable lounge where there was an honesty bar. Finally to bed and it was like sleeping on air. Soooooo comfy. Full English breakfast was served by the lovely Hayley once we'd selected from fruit, yoghurt, cereal. Shame we hadn't booked 2 nights really but both couples had to get back home. This little gem B & B is such good value and we will definitely return. I believe Hayley is looking at retirement. We wish you all the very best Hayley (& John) and thank you for your wonderful hospitality.

Went to Appleby for a two week course and stayed at this Guest House and what a lovely little place it is. My hosts John and Hayley were welcoming and helpful. My room was very clean, tidy and comfortably furnished. Wi-Fi is available, which I made use of to complete my assignments. Breakfast was cooked to order ad over the two weeks I sampled everything on offer, and would thoroughly recommend the Eggs Barrowgarth.

For those cyclist who visit the area, secure storgae of cycles is available.

Wholeheartedly recommend this Guest Hourse.

Just stayed here last night for a family birthday meal out in Appleby. Can't recommend this lovely quaint B&B enough. It's sparkling clean and so very lovely. We had room 4 on the 2nd floor and it was perfect. The room has everything you could wish for and the bed was to die for, it was almost like sleeping on a water bed. The mini fridge with the fresh milk and ice cold water was a fab touch. The dressing table has a lovely bright light for doing your make up etc and the en suite was immaculate. The cooked English Breakfast was absolutely gorgeous with cereal, milk, fresh fruit, yogurts, juice, tea, coffee, toast, jam & marmalade all available too. The lounge area was lush with patio doors out onto a lovely courtyard. There's a very well stocked honesty bar where you just write down what you've had with your room number and it will just be added to your bill when you check out. We would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat! Thank you to the lovely hosts for a wonderful stay!

Stayed here at the same time last year when we went to play golf at Appleby Golf Club. This is a lovely B & B with a new owner who will do anything for you, nothing is too much trouble. The house itself is amazing, the rooms are spotlessly clean with everything you need - great shower, hairdryer, loads of hangers, tea making facilities with fresh milk in the fridge and also bottled water. Comfy bed, fluffy towels. Off road parking and a short walk into Appleby where we tested out and enjoyed the new Italian Restaurant, Angelo’s. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful. Wishing Fiona lots of luck in this new venture she certainly deserves to do well. We will be back. 😀

This was the first time I have stopped here and to be fair I was impressed with everything this Guest House had to offer.
I was informed that I was the first customer of the new owners Fiona and Martin who are new to the hospitality industry.
If my first experience of my visit is anything to by they are off to a good start.
Fantastic location close to the centre of Appleby.
Ideal for golfing weekend with nearby Appleby and Penrith Golf Course
Faultless rooms that are clean and full of home comforts
Breakfast to die for with plenty of selection
Off street parking.
Cant recommend this little B&B enough, you will not be disappointed if you stay here.

We stayed here early August for 2 nights for our wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. We were greeted on arrival and all procedures were explained. Our room was lovely, clean and very well thought out. It even had a mini fridge with fresh milk and water which is a great touch. It is ideally situated on the outskirts of the town centre with shops, pubs and restaurants just a 5 minute walk away. It is situated on the main road so is easy to locate but still quiet enough for a good nights sleep. Lovely hosts and an ideal location make this a great place to stay!

We stayed here for our last night before going home. And we had saved the best til last! What a treasure. It was beautiful top to bottom. Very clean room and lovely large shower, comfortable bed and very quiet. It also had parking which was a bonus as we were travelling in a classic car and my husband likes to have it parked close by.
The hosts were brilliant, very welcoming and friendly, couldn’t ask for better. It was like staying with friends. Breakfast was delicious, we would love to stay again.

Barrowgarth b and b is situated at the top of a hill looking down on to the town, only a 5 minute walk if that to the centre and off street parking which was handy. Fiona is a lovely host and very friendly, our room was great, dual aspect, very nicely furnished and a powerful shower. We had a view of the castle turrets and tree lined street. Lovely touches like bottled water and fresh milk in the mini fridge, plenty of tea, coffee and hot chocolate to choose from and delicious biscuits that were all replenished once gone.
Breakfast was again great with an excellent choice of fresh fruit, yogurts, cereal, pastries, tea, coffee, jams, fruit juices and then a menu for hot food which you chose the day before.
There is also an honesty bar in the guest lounge which was well stocked, plus newspapers and books to read.
Appleby itself is a beautiful small town with fab river and woodland walks, a lovely church, amazing cricket pitch, and a lot of history. Great little independent shops, cafes and decent pubs that serve cracking food. Everyone we met and spoke to were very friendly and we had fantastic weather which made our weekend even better. I would highly recommend visiting Appleby and staying at Barrowgarth....we will definitely be back.

Hello good evening can you tell me please how much for 20 day in March
Answer from Alan M
Paris, France37 contributions25 helpful votes
Was there last week - still great. Weekdays is 85 pounds per night and Friday to Sunday 90 pounds for a room for 2 people including breakfast. Best to contact the owners directly. I do know they have had guests who have stayed for multi-week visits and I do know they can be flexible..
