Only stayed at this B&B for one night and we were made really welcome. Anne, the owner, was very helpful with local knowledge and picking my sister up from the station. The room was large, clean, well furnished with wonderful views over the town. Wifi worked well. There was plenty of parking. Breakfast was plentiful, excellent and hot. There was a very good pub within walking distance for an evening meal which Anne booked for us. The town centre is in walking distance. Ideal centre for touring the area. We will certainly stay again if we are in the area.

A fantastic 3 day break. A most welcoming place, old historic hall in the shadow of Appleby Castle. The owner was most welcoming and nothing was a bother. Our bedroom was cosy and felt like home from home. We had a balcony which overlooked the vast impressive well planted garden to the rear of the property. If visibility had been good at night we might have seen a meteor shower at night. Breakfast was cooked to order and beautifully presented. Can't wait to return in better weather.

We stayed here in September after the hotel we were booked into had to close due to flooding. What a fortunate accident for us! Anne was so welcoming and warm and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay with her. Her daughter-in-law was so friendly as well! Our room was lovely and clean, bed comfy and the cooked to order breakfast was wonderful. We came from Canada to meet with cousins and she enabled us the time and space to get to know one another. Would recommend to anyone looking for the perfect B & B!

My wife and I stayed at Bongate House in the delightful town of Appleby in Westoreland for two nights to break our journey further north. We had a really pleasant stay in a good sized room with a newly fitted en suite and extremely comfortable double bed. Breakfast was excellent with wide choice of cereals, fruit, juices etc followed by well cooked breakfast with quality ingredients. But the star of the show was our host, Anne, for whom nothing was too much trouble. She really made us welcome and we felt very much at home throughout our stay. Bongate house is a 7 minute walk to the centre of the town (we are in our late 70s so younger visitiors can probably knock 2 minutes off this). Cannot praise our landlady and her excellent B&B enough and will definitely choose Bongate House again if visiting this part of the world again. Thank you Maurice & Irene Quinn

Had a really comfortable stay while hiking the Pennine Way. Excellent spacious room, and slept soundly -- as most everywhere on my trip. Ann is a friendly and accommodating host, and provides an excellent breakfast to get started in the morning. The hill up from the centre is worth noting for some people, but just an easy 10-minute walk.

I booked Bongate house as I was training locally. Ann was lovely from the beginning. Because of the location my partner and son (2yr old) joined so they could explore, it's only a few minutes walk to Appleby town centre. However, unfortunately, I got confused and booked the wrong place (I thought I'd booked a whole cottage, not a room) :( Ann was lovely, really accommodating and understood I'd made a mistake and went out of her way to help us. We stayed one night instead of seven. Everything was clean and comfortable. Ann went out of her way to help us out! The breakfast was great, and again Ann was wonderful with our son, really accommodating. I would definitely stay here again when I'm next up training!

We stayed here as part of our Pennine Way journey and it was just so lovely. We walked into Dufton on the hottest day ever recorded in England and we were warmly greeted at Bongate House by Anne with cold water and an ice cream. The room and beds were nice and cozy and the bathroom was huge and amazing. It’s a great location right near town center. We stayed here for two nights and enjoyed a rest day and were so happy we choose here for that. Beautiful spa nearby at Appleby Manor! The place is lovely but what really makes it special is Anne. She’s a warm, kind, and generous host who seems to have thought of all the little details to make her guests happy and comfortable.

We only stayed one night but it was a fabulous stay and we’d highly recommend Bongate House. The location is perfect - only a couple of minutes walk into Appleby town. Annie was the most obliging host; warm and welcoming and everything was organised well. She even booked us a table at a local pub for our evening meal. The room was spacious and clean with well stocked refreshments. The bed was comfy with crisp white linen. Breakfast was superb and there was a wide choice of high quality food and drinks available; nothing was too much trouble. We wish Annie all the best and hope to see her again in the future.

Bongate is a large old house on the outskirts of Appleby but a mere 10 minute walk into town. The renovations of this property are ongoing but should not detract anyone from visiting and having a comfortable stay. Our room (3) was spotlessly clean with a twin set up as requested. The owner, Anne, was both welcoming and helpful and indications were that nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was cooked to order and delivered to us in quick time. It was excellent. We enjoyed our 2 night stay and would have no hesitation in recommending Bongate House. We will certainly visit again.
