Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This Lodge is absolutely perfect especially for disabled guests. This is a top quality establishment and everything is first class. Flat access for wheelchairs and wide doors inside. Ground floor bedroom and bathroom excellent. The kitchen and ground floor bathroom have height adjustable work top and wash basin. There are several features for sight restricted clients and for those with hearing problems. John and Jan are wonderful and very helpful with any query fired at them. All this and dog friendly too.

Thank you for this Jean. The lodge was designed, when rebuilt in 2015, for those with disabled requirements to holiday with friends or family upstairs. I fear you may be our last visitors for some time now. Keep safe everyone.

The many little touches and thoughtful additions make a stay at the Hollies a unique and enjoyable experience. We had a large bedroom in this spacious and spotlessly clean house. Porcelain mugs rather than cheap cups for tea were provoded in the bedroom as well as fresh milk in an insulated flask and even a pair of scissors to cut the wrappings off the tea bags and biscuits!
Breakfast was cooked to order to our choice of a list of locall sausages and other delights and the breakfast table had fresh linen knapkins and a lazy susan laden with every type of conserves.
Our cantankerous and grumpy dog was welcomed and John and Jan were attentive but never overbearing.
We had been hesitant about the noise from the nearby A66 but inside the house not a sound was heard and we slept very well.
We would highly recommend this b and b to anyone who apprecaites the finer things in life and traditional hospitality.

Just one night at the Hollies for us whilst passing through on our Pennine Way journey.
One of us had suffered cuts and abrasions due to a fall whilst in the Pennines - needing treatment at Penrith Urgent Treatment Centre, without hesitation Jan provided the return transport. This speaks volumes of Jan and John who ensure that their guests every needs are catered for. The Hollies - the perfect B&B, a truly nice place.

Excellent facilities for our adult family break. Height adjustable work surfaces in kitchen and sink in ground floor bathroom. Plenty of room. Spacious wet room downstairs with grab rails and chair if needed and shower room upstairs, again with grab rails.
Fantastic watching all the birds in the garden feeding, and the tiny mouse. Lovely garden and large pond.
John and Jan were just next door if you needed them otherwise they didn’t intrude, perfect hosts.
Would definitely recommend this self-catering accommodation.

Stayed at The Hollies for 4 nights whilst attending a training course. Jan, John and Ollie the dog were excellent hosts. A freshly cooked breakfast with locally sourced produce was the perfect start to the day.
Highly recommended .👍

We stayed in both the motorhome parking spot and in one of the rooms in this charming B&B. Jan and John were friendly and attentive throughout and we really enjoyed meeting them and Ollie the spaniel (Front of House Manager!). Breakfast was delicious and the room was spotless and comfortable. There are plenty of extra touches which make this place extra special; locally sourced products for breakfast included strawberries freshly picked by John at breakfast and scissors in the room to make short work of opening fiddly coffee sachets! Very thoughtful!

There is absolutely nothing to fault about The Hollies and Janet &John who look after you there. We were walking the Pennine Way and Janet picked us up at Dufton, patiently awaiting our ' phone call. Nothing was too much trouble from the moment we arrived. Our room was so comfortable and immaculate. John dropped us off at the local Indian Restaurant (which was excellent) in the evening and picked us up later when we rang him. We ended up staying two nights for a variety of reasons and it really was a pleasure. Breakfast on both mornings was excellent with an exceptional menu. We really can't say enough good things about The Hollies and Janet & John and we look forward to returning.

Great bed and breakfast which is excellent value for money. Very welcoming hosts, Jan and John - and Ollie the springer spaniel! Extremely comfortable bedroom, beautiful en suite with one of the best showers we’ve ever come across. Good supplies of fair trade coffee, tea and hot chocolate in the bedroom, along with lovely biscuits. Delicious breakfast, beautifully cooked and including home made bread. We only stayed one night but it would also be a good base for this lovely part of the country.

Jan and John are wonderful hosts - they seem to have thought of everything. We were only staying one night on our way home but we had a very clean and comfortable room and a great breakfast. We got so involved with chatting to them that we were much later leaving than we had intended! Thank you for a lovely end to our holiday.
