Think the hot tub facilities should be included in price of lodge. Very expensive nightly rate then have to pay further £30/day for hot tub which you can’t use before 11am and are padlocked closed at 8pm.
Only managed 1 hour on first day due to time of
arrival 3pm, having to be out in time for supper and then closing time of 8pm. Not worth paying £30 for this, maybe should’ve mentioned this on arrival.
Would have picked the following day instead then could’ve used this between 11-8pm.
Also would’ve liked to go in hot tub in morning before
breakfast as I’m an early riser and views are fantastic however doesn’t padlock open until 11am ☹️ And then padlocked closed again in evening.
Also feel that there should have been small wardrobe for hanging clothes as we were there for 2 night so clothes were pretty creased.
No need to have huge exercising equipment in
bedroom, could remove and have so much more
space to reshuffle room and have wardrobe space.
Makes the room look so much smaller and machine next to bed can be trip hazard and spoils view of lake
when blinds are open, a separate room for this
should be supplied.
tables and chairs next to hot tub could’ve been set up for our use. We did try to move the table from chairs
but all were dirty from recent weather and spiders. It was a lovely cold weekend so we stood about outside rather than sitting and enjoying views.
On a positive food was lovely 😊 as was views...stunning and host Jean and Derek made stay welcoming. Very relaxed after 2 days away from hustle and bustle of Aberdeen. Pity it wasn’t a bit busier being the only guests felt very odd.

Lodge on the Loch is a nice hotel in a great location for Visiting Royal Deeside and walking in the area. The rooms are very spacious and offer great views of the Loch. The restaurant offers evening meals and a choice of breakfast. However there is room for improvement. There is absolutely no atmosphere in the bar and restaurant. It could do with soft background music or TV in the bar area. I am sure guests like ourselves would spend more time using the hotels facilities if there was a better atmosphere and not just a cold silence. We chose this hotel to spend our time relaxing but felt disappointed that we found ourselves leaving the premises to seek a better ambience elsewhere in the area.
Having to pre-order meals and breakfast the night before is a pain and awkward. As you may change your mind the next day and fancy something different to eat.
The full Scottish breakfast came with fried egg and You have to pay £1.79 if you prefer your eggs scrambled. I found this very mean and penny pinching along with £2.50 for bucket of Ice or £1.50 for glass of ice.
Overall we had an enjoyable visit but unless there are changes I don’t see us returning.

Outstanding weekend break in a peaceful and scenic environment. Hosts Derek and Jean were attentive, friendly and funny. The room was spotless with panoramic views over the loch and mountains beyond.
The food was spectacular, everything on the menu was delicious. Wide selection of drinks in a comfortable abd elegant lounge area, with outside seating available on the decking .
I would thoroughly recommend this establishment, there is nothing not to like. Without doubt we will come back to sample the many delights on offer. Derek and Jean, thank you very much for the hospitality you provided.

We came to stay at the lodge on the loch in Aboyne as a celebratory night away a few weeks ago. We were very excited to come and stay. The place it’s self is situated with the most stunning view! However the let down is the owners. They are incredibly rude! From the moment we checked in they had a very negative attitude and were not very welcoming. They were arguing at the desk as we stood there, it was very awkward. When we asked for something we were told ‘they can’t do everything at once and have been there since 6am’ very abruptly. We had dinner at the restaurant and again the owners were rude. We were told we had to pre order our meal and would not be seated later than 8. Fair enough. We arrived and were seated not offered drinks, starters basically thrown down in front of us and still not offered drinks or even the chance to ask for drinks because the lady hurried off so quickly. My partner had to get up and go and ask for drinks and they were then thrown in front of us along with our main meal. Huffed at for wanting a dessert because everyone else had left they clearly wanted an early finish. We paid to use the hot tub for the duration of our stay at £30!! A hot tub that should just come with your room free of charge considering the price of the room. We only got the hot tub until 10pm. Fine, perhaps being considerate to other guests. They come and lock the hot tub up so you can no longer use it! Assuming the owner would unlock in the morning and that we would get a morning soak with stunning views. This did not happen! Partner went to ask about the hot tub being unlocked and we were very abruptly told we only get it for the evening!!! £30 extra on top of what we already paid for the room and we only get the hot tub for the evening! Absolute disgrace! We were not aware of this when checking in other wise we would have never paid for the hot tub!! Absolutely no reason we cannot use the hot tub in the morning and them clean the hot tub after we leave like a normal place would!! Such a waste of money! The room has a beautiful balcony with lovely views but the room needs an update! It’s clearly an old gym and they have just left a treadmill in there for some reason and in fact left the gym flooring! It’s not very nice considering how much you pay. Overall the views are beautiful, the meal was lovely however very over priced for the portion size but the owners are a huge let down to the establishment unfortunately and have put us off returning! Such a shame because we absolutely loved the views and the time we did get in the hot tub. I think if the owners can’t be bothered they should sell up because their attitude is disgusting and makes your stay uncomfortable.

We were looking forward to our stay here and had booked for 3 nights…
However after 5 minutes at the reception desk we realised that this might not be what we’d been hoping for. A relaxing break in a lovely location.
The reception we got was frosty, unfriendly and very condescending!! The receptionist barked rules at us regarding dinner, breakfast and gave us a mop and bucket to clean up water on the floor in the en-suite caused by a faulty tap.
We shortened our stay to one night and cancelled dinner and breakfast then left the next morning at 9am (we were charged £160 for the room) Definitely not worth the money, but we were just glad to be out of there.
Nice setting, tired hotel, frosty staff… would not recommend!

Made to feel very welcome on arrival. Fabulous location overlooking the loch & hills beyond. Good social distancing in place, with hand sanitizers at entrance/exit etc.
Our room was Lochnagar suite, very spacious with its own balcony/deck overlooking the loch. Dog friendly so good for our dog as gate to grass area to take him out.

Dinners & breakfasts exceptional. Social distancing very much in place but this did not detract from friendliness & lovely atmosphere. Tables situated at a distance from each other, food arrived on a trolley & we lifted it onto the table. All these things mad us feel safe in the current climate. Lounge area & diningroom overlook loch & hills beyond, absolutely amazing. There is also the Osprey Deck where you can eat or have drinks outside overlooking the loch. Very continental !

We stayed a couple of nights & no one was in our room apart from us in this time, re government guidelines so this made us feel more secure re the Covid situation. Had we stayed another night the room woul have been refreshed.
Would highly recommend to anyone cautious about taking a break in these times to stay here.
Suggest you research what you want to see in the area prior to a visit as usual tourist info (paper) not available as in magazine form. Wi fi very good for secluded area, no problems.

Lovely hotel, made very welcome. Room opened out onto the deck where we sat and enjoyed a fabulous view over the loch. Walked round the loch in beautiful sunset. Would recommend to anyone. Meals staggered and precooked, so very smoothly served if slightly pricey for what it was.

After the recent events of lockdown it was wonderful to get away from our own 4 walls. The Lodge on the Loch is a perfect place for a quiet break. It is in a wonderful setting, overlooking the loch, with plenty of places to walk, eat and sight see.
The owners, Jean and Derek, are always very welcoming and serve a really good breakfast. An added bonus is they allow dogs in some rooms which was ideal for us and our 13 year old cavalier.
Our fiends have a static caravan on the other side of the loch so it is perfect to visit them after sooooo long.
Will be back up in the Autumn for another visit.

Don't often write negative reviews but feel this one is necessary. We stayed here as we were having our wedding in the surrounding area. Rooms had dirty towels, and half eaten food in drawers. The owners had been in our rooms rearranging furniture. The owners charged our friend for an orange juice that she had because she was having a hypoglycemic attack. Also charged us for full bottles of Bailey's and Tia Maria but were seen taking shots as "they wanted to see what it tasted like". The hotel itself is in a lovely setting, which is a real shame as it should have been a lovely stay but unfortunately the owners dampened the experience for us. We should have listened to local advice and stayed elsewhere.

We had a great three nights, with the weather helping a great deal. It was pretty quiet and lacking atmosphere on the first night with the bar not really being used, but seemed to pick up on the next two days. The room we had (Lochnagar) was huge with a great view from the terrace. The said terrace could be used by guests from the other ground floor rooms to access the bar and restaurant, but wasn't during our stay. You'd have to be pretty rude to use it when there is a corridor inside. Food and drinks were reasonably priced. However the charge for a pint of ice (£1) was a bit much considering we paid almost £600 in total over the three days. The other pain was having to choose what you were eating, breakfast and dinner, the day before and having to book an exact time for breakfast (half hourly slots only). Apart from that, we really enjoyed the stay and the owners were very friendly. We only saw any other staff on the day we were leaving, and I think the night before but we ate out that night. With a few tweaks, this place could be faultless, but it is what it is and after the first night we accepted the few quirks and enjoyed our stay.
