Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fab stay! Close to beach, shops and bars and restaurants. Penny is lovely and made our stay. Her breakfast is amazing and the place is so clean and smells lovely. Only thing I would recommend is a bit of low music in the breakfast area. Loved our time here and will definitely return. Thank u x

Excellent BnB. My partner and I stayed here the weekend of the Weymouth seafood festival. It was a delightful experience, mainly due to the owner and due to breakfast! Nothing was too much trouble, the full English was great and the yoghurt granola nutty thingy to kick off breakfast was fabulous. Highly recommended:)

We had a wonderful time over the bank holiday weekend staying here. The whole place was spotlessly clean and tidy. Breakfast was amazing! Penny was so helpful with everything. The rooms had everything that we needed. Touch lamps with two USB charge points at the bedside, tea and coffee making facilities with a mini fridge with fresh milk. Hairdryer iron ironing board blankets beach towels- everything that you could possibly need! I would highly recommend staying here especially as it is so close to the beach and walking distance from lovely places to eat.

1/2 star hotel charging 4 star prices. We paid £100 a night to stay in a dump, when I say dump I mean B&B and area! What’s happened to Weymouth?! Firstly, the rooms are not as advertised, they are not clean. The owner is aggressive, read comments below, it’s funny that everyone seems to be the problem isn’t it? Room was not kept clean, mould on shower, honestly disgraceful. If you’re going to charge 100 you expect it to be clean at least? No parking, which was stated on the website, however penny didn’t help us too much in regards to cheap parking elsewhere. A lovely lady at a different b&b was much more helpful. Breakfast was only when penny could fit you in, no flexibility, we ended up not having breakfast a few times due to the fact we wanted to be out and about wah before 10pm. Do not visit this place, very unprofessional, and unclean.

Room Tip: Avoid the b&b and avoid Weymouth.. it’s run down and not what it used to be

No parking at all but you can park about half a mile or so from the guests house . She got very argumentative when quizzed about the parking permits she didn't even know were you could park with them? Accommodation not the cleanest breakfast was average. Our room was in the loft and stairs were very narrow and steep not ideal. Would not go back landlady not very welcoming on first visit.

Response from Penny Vettor, Owner at Philbeach Guest House
Responded 20 Sept 2021
Let me just start by saying, I don’t take kindly to being verbally assaulted the second a guest walks through the door, and that is exactly what the male counterpart of your party did when he found out I didn’t have a parking permit available for him. The parking details are stated on booking.com, if you had cared to do the detail. To make sure there is no misunderstandings, a letter to your booking.com inbox is sent out immediately when booking with Philbeach, reiterating and explaining the parking information. I even give a 24 hour grace period for guests to change their mind and cancel their booking before I take the deposit. So, there is plenty of opportunity to know about the parking and cancel your reservation. Needless to say, after a very long season, I certainly know where my permits are valid, and I cannot change what the Dorset Council has now implemented where B&B’s are concerned in Weymouth. As to parking on the street, I freely admit that I cannot state with certainty any knowledge, and therefore give none out, so I am not blamed later for false information. The fact that I offered your initial deposit back and that you could go elsewhere, when that was not required, I thought was only fair and reasonable as you seemed so upset with the situation. Even then you insisted on seeing the room first and I complied, which once you got up to agreed that it was a nice one and decided to stay. The stairs, though many, are not as narrow as some in this area. Again, the floor of the room is stated on booking.com if you had done the detail. I was very light hearted and friendly with you for the rest of your stay and treated you with the same respect and service that I do every guest. As to your comment on my breakfast, I can only say that you finished everything on the plate, every day, but if that is your opinion then I apologise for it not being up to your standards, despite the fact that I purchase the finest ingredients for my guests and take great care that it is made for them fresh and arrives hot. The statement that you will not be returning is small recompense for this review, but I can only hope you remember to do the detail for your next booking elsewhere. Regards, Penny

This was our first time staying at Philbeach Guest House as a family and it certainly won’t be our last. We all loved Penny’s happy go lucky humour as did all the other guests and her full English breakfast was really delicious. Have to mention her Perfect fried eggs that are cooked to perfection!!! Would definitely recommend this lovely quaint B&B as a lovely time was had by all. Keep up the good work Penny as it’s very much appreciated by the vast majority of your guests. Hope to see you again in the very near future. Take care now Kind regards Lucy,Dave,Flori and Honey 🥂
