The Edenhurst, situated on Weymouth's esplanade. We are ideally situated close to Weymouth's Victorian clock tower on the sea front. The sea is literally on our front door step. It is only a short walk to the town centre, shops, bars, restaurants, railway and bus station and Weymouth's historic harbour. We have double, twin, family and single rooms, some with sea views. Most are en-suite. Our breakfast room has fantastic views across Weymouth bay.

I believe in giving honest views and saying things exactly as I see them so guests can make informed choices so here is my review of the Lyndhurst Guest House.

We stayed at The Lyndhurst Guest House for the May Bank Holiday. We had a fantastic sea view and loved waking up every morning to views of the sea and also enjoyed hearing the waves at night. The location is great as you are right on the esplanade with everything just a short walk from you.

The room was spotlessly clean but they don't service the rooms during your stay due to Covid. (I'm not entirely sure why as the other B&B we stayed in did).

There was a good choice for breakfast but it wasn't entirely relaxing as again they have strict covid rules such as having to queue in the hall before being seated at your numbered table. The tables are bare when you arrive, other than your number, and they bring you a tray and then step back whilst you clear it etc. (At the other B&B they already had tables laid up for each room and then served you as normal at your table). That said I guess everyone does things differently during these strange times but we just felt uncomfortable and not relaxed at all.

Now for the negatives:

I have never slept on a bed that was so hard! Both hubby and I had back ache after the 1st night and I ended up having to put one of the pillows under my back in order to sleep.

The council have recently withdrawn parking permits - not the owners fault but it meant we had to park our car in a public car park overnight which we weren't too keen on doing as no security. It also meant paying £5 a day which added to the cost of the stay. On top of this, Weymouth was packed due to it being Bank Holiday and great weather so when we went out for the day, we were shocked to find the car parks were full on our return even though we had pre paid our parking so we had to park in the park and ride, pay for the bus into town and return to get our car once the car parks were less full.

Finally, we felt, as other reviews have mentioned, it wasn't the most friendly place to stay. I totally understand that running a guest house is hard work particularly in Covid times, but I felt the couple who owned it seemed very stressed! I felt if they could just smile and enquire as to how guests had slept, what their plans were for the day etc etc we would have felt more welcome and relaxed but this didn't happen. Again the other B&B which was cheaper and had far more facilities did this and it just made for a really enjoyable stay.

Everything was very clean and social distancing was implemented as much as possible - as there are narrow stairs, we all wore masks on the staircase. Hand sanitiser as you enter and again in the common space. Breakfast was delicious and there was a good choice. The breakfast room looks onto the seafront which is nice and the service was very good. It was very hot, but there was a fan in the room which did a decent job of cooling us down. The location couldn't be better - three minutes from the station and the centre of town and directly on the seafront. Weymouth itself is delightful and I was very impressed with the amenities on the beach.

We stayed in Weymouth for 2 nights at the Edenhurst. Our room was at the front so although there was traffic noise our sea view was perfect. The breakfast choice was very plentiful and the poached eggs on crumpets were delicious. I think Bill and Cindy have done their best to keep the English seaside holiday going during very difficult times. We had a lovely stay. Thank you x

I am trying to write a fair and balanced review, however, I am struggling -here goes....
Fantastic location on the esplanade, we booked a sea-view with a balcony and were not disappointed (you will incur road noise but once the traffic has dispersed you can hear the water lapping the beach) ...beautiful
Great breakfast and good variety, although weird in covid times, everyone has to sit facing the front window, it reminded me of school, and it felt very awkward, everyone could hear your conversation and Cindy never said good morning or enquired of our plans.
I felt I was in a dickens novel to ask for more tea or juice.
The shower in room 4 was tiny, where I kept hitting the controls when I turned. But the water pressure was good.
Bill and Cindy take their covid rules seriously, but again, I felt they relished having rules in place where everything is forbidden, we were read the rules on arrival.
No clean towels everyday, we were told, this was not a hotel this was a guesthouse , towels would be changed every third day.
Incidentally, take your own towels , the small towel is no bigger than a napkin and wouldn’t wrap around an adult head.
Our arrival got off to a rocky start, not a welcome, but both Cindy and Bill informed me, my payment card had been declined. They implied, I was at fault but I learned later had already sent me an email at 7.35 (whilst we were en route )asking me to rectify as my booking was in danger of being cancelled. I tried another card, but again declined. Bill was saying he was having no problem with his card machine and had made several transactions for £1 that very morning, although they mentioned it had happened before.
I was embarrassed, they really thought I would book a holiday without funds to cover.
I’m guessing now, but I suspect their machine had a £500 limit.
And as our bill was over £600 that would clarify the inconsistencies, I, of course, paid them directly from my account but I’m not expecting an apology 😊
Room 4, is tiny, not really big enough to call a double where they have squeezed in the en-suite, leaving a very strange configuration and I have a nasty black bruise, the size of a golf ball ,as evidence, it’s difficult to negotiate your way around the metal bed frame.
All in all, Cindy and Bill did nothing to delight us, or go the extra mile which would have secured a return visit.
They lacked basic social skills, they never greeted us good morning.
I suggest, they read the comments guests are leaving and take them on board, just because you are a guesthouse, does not entitle you to treating your guests with disdain.

In our 14 years running the Guest house we have never had any guest complain about having to eat their breakfast while looking out over the sea. If you had mentioned this when you were here, we could have turned your table around and sat you in the corner facing the wall. All our shower cubical are a standard 800mm. Everyone should treat Covid with respect. We send every guest an email with our Covid polices when they book. And repeat them when they check in just in case, they did not read the email. Nowhere is anyone forbidden from doing anything apart from following our Covid safety rules. We are not a hotel so do not change towel every day For the health and safety of our guest and staff with Covid still circulating we decided not to do daily cleans in rooms while guest are occupying them but do a full clean and sensitization of rooms when guest have left. In our email to all customers when booking it says For all customers that have supplied their debit/credit card details for payment the full balance of your booking will be taken on the morning of your arrival date. This is because we have a 24-hour cancelation policy due to the Covid problem. We had taken 4 other payments on the same morning with no problem. When you arrived your card still would not work. There are no limits on our machine and I only checked with my card for 1p to make sure the machine was working okay which it was. After running our Guesthouse for 14 years we know how to treat guest, but the problem is guest that have a negative attitude when they arrive and do not change no matter what we try to do.

We stayed at Edenhurst Guesthouse between 12th June and 16th June. The overall experience was appalling! The hosts claim that their Booking.com rating as 8.8 out of 10. What a joke! Bill and Cindy are the least friendly B&B hosts we have encountered! I There is no daily room cleaning service and when you ask for some clean towels after two nights stay, you get told off! We hardly slept in the first two nights due to the noise from the road and poor sound proof throughout the property. The curtains are simply not wide or long enough to secure a good night sleep in summertime. After two miserable nights we decided to move the double bed away from the window and started to take some “easy sleep “ pills to get through the last two nights! We were so happy we could go home after four miserable nights at the guesthouse.

I had read some negative reviews conducted by other guests back in 2017 stating how rude the hosts were! However most recent reviews seem to suggest the guesthouse is a much improved place! Out of all the B&B places we have stayed in since 1990s, this one easily stands out as the WORST of 30-40! In the future, I shall always take into account of reviews given by previous guests. There is no reason for any guests to give any biased reviews unless there is a genuine reason behind it. I hope the hosts can be slightly more considerate of their guests rather than only focusing on the money!

Probably the worst guest ever. We are very friendly to our guest that take an interest in talking to us we go out of our way to please our guest. But if a guest doesn’t want to talk to us and has a grumpy attitude from the time they walk in the front door there’s not a lot we can do about it. You received and email stating our Covid policies on room services and daily cleans which you read, on your arrival you where retold all our covid policy’s before you went to your room. It’s not our fault if you didn’t take any notice of what was being told to you. You arrived on Saturday afternoon 12 June you asked for new towels on Sunday 13 June afternoon 24 hours we gave you clean towels and only said that we were not a hotel that change towels every day. We are an Edwardian building built in 1825 and grade 2 listed so we cannot do lots of improvements that modern hotels can do. You booked your room on Booking.com we did not allocate it for you, you wanted to change rooms as soon as you saw our larger room which were being cleaned but they were all booked out. I wish I new where you moved the bed to it will only move about 6 inches further away from the window. There may be some traffic nose at night if you leave the window open but no one has said it was that bad that they had to drug themselves to get to sleep. I wonder how long it took you to scroll through all our reviews to find the negative ones especially if you had to go back as far as 2017 which I cannot find. I’m sorry you had a bad experience with us but it would have been nice to have known while you were still here. You said nothing to us about your complaints.

Had 2 rooms at top of house for weekend as my son was competing in the Ironman event. Lovely clean room with everything we needed . We had a glorious view of the sea too. Breakfast was really good with lots of choice , nice thick toast too! There were facilities for my son to store his bike securely an£ on the morning of the event bottles of water , flapjacks, bananas were left out for competitors who had to miss breakfast , really appreciated .

We have recently returned home from a wonderful 2 night stay at The Edenhurst. The location of the family run guesthouse is perfect, it’s on the seafront and within easy walking distance of shops, bars and restaurants.
From arrival we were provided with a warm welcome. We were in room 8 and the views were fabulous. We had lovely weather so the sunrises were glorious.
The room was spacious and very clean. There were tea and coffee facilities and a nice touch was also the bottled water and biscuits.
The breakfast selection was plentiful. You have the choice of the traditional full English breakfast or other hot options. There is also porridge, cereal, yoghurts and fruit and tea and coffee refills as you want them.
We would thoroughly recommend and thank our fabulous hosts, Gary and family for a wonderful stay.

My wife and I stayed at the Edenhurst last weekend. This family run Edwardian guesthouse is situated along the seafront with extensive panoramic views across the bay, benefitting from restaurants, shops and all amenities on its doorstep. We were amicably greeted by Gary who courteously welcomed us and directed us to our room. The room (8) was spacious, cosily warm and with glorious seaviews from the large bay windows. After a good night's sleep in a large comfy bed, we were greeted at breakfast with cooked full English for myself and Vegetarian cooked option for the wife, both made from quality produce, which sufficed for us...but cereals/ further options were also available. Gary and his team were exemplary hosts and made us feel very welcome. We would highly recommend, thank you and look forward to returning next time we visit Weymouth.

Location was perfect, only a stones throw to the beach and short walk into the town.
The hosts took all covid precautions seriously throughout our stay which made us feel safe. The room size was good and the huge double windows overlooking the sea was definitely a highlight.

The only downsides were the road noise outside due to the single glazed windows and the 4 flights of stairs up to our room. Tiring when carrying a pram and toddler up to the room after a long day out walking!

All in all a very reasonably priced stay with a good choice of breakfast included.

Owners were fab in accommodating our daughter who was missed off my booking. My mistake. I bought my own cot and they provided a seat at breakfast for her. Breakfast was lovely. Exactly what you need in a seaside bnb. Would return.

how reliable is parking for september
Answer from Bill M
Hi Parking in September is mainly quite easy during the week days. Weekends when events are on may get a but more difficult but should not be a problem

how is parking
Answer from Bill M
Hi parking is a nightmare during the summer season in Weymouth. The Edenhurst has a small amount of parking permits for on street parking but this dose not guarantee you a parking space. It may take a bit of time to find a space but normally you do eventually.
